The efforts of educators in the last three decades have, among other things, focused on the use of information technology (IT) in education. It has become commonplace to view information systems both as an effective carrier of course content as well as a cost-effective tool to improve student learning outcomes. One of such technologies is the e-book. Decision-makers in the education field need make sense of this technological transformation. However, despite the growing popularity of e-books in higher education, its adoption by students is yet to be crystalized. This study exploits the technology acceptance model (TAM) framework to examine student acceptance of e-textbooks as “internally” impacted by technology innovativeness and “externally” influenced by system exposure. The results showed that students’ technology innovativeness is associated with student acceptance of e-textbooks and that system exposure was a strong moderator of the TAM relationships. The findings suggest that students’ openness to new technology, in general, is likely to positively affect the adoption of a specific new instructional technology. Additionally, system exposure was found to be a significant moderator of the TAM relationships. It is concluded that students’ technology innovativeness and system exposure must therefore be factored into instructional technology usage decision-making models.

The Covid-19 pandemic that has hit all corners of the world including Indonesia is a phenomenon that has a major impact on all sectors of people's lives, including the education sector. Therefore, educational institutions immediately resolve this problem by implementing online lectures as a substitute for face-to-face lectures. However, student acceptance of video conferencing technology did not fully motivate students to undergo online classes. The purpose of this study was to describe student acceptance of video conferencing technology in distance learning during pandemic. Through the digital ethnography method, researchers will explore and obtain reflections on the experiences of students who use digital technology to carry out the learning process online through video conferencing technology. Data collection was carried out through interviews with four informants from four different departments and literature studies. Data analysis of student communication technology acceptance was carried out using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) which was adapted from Mayring's (2010) research. The results of the analysis of the interview data with four informants show that the acceptance of student technology is not the only factor that affects student motivation in running online lectures. Factors that also influence student motivation to run online courses include the demands of lectures, assignments given, and the learning system used when running online classes. Student motivation in running online lectures needs to be considered because it plays a role in their understanding of the material being studied. Pandemi Covid-19 yang melanda seluruh penjuru dunia termasuk Indonesia merupakan fenomena yang memiliki dampak besar pada seluruh sektor kehidupan masyarakat, tak terkecuali sektor pendidikan. Oleh sebab itu, instansi pendidikan dengan segera menuntaskan permasalahan ini dengan menerapkan kuliah online sebagai pengganti kuliah tatap muka. Namun, penerimaan mahasiswa terhadap teknologi konferensi video ternyata tidak sepenuhnya memotivasi mahasiswa dalam menjalani kelas online. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan penerimaan mahasiswa terhadap teknologi konferensi video dalam pembelajaran jarak jauh di masa pandemi. Melalui metode etnografi digital, peneliti akan menggali hingga memperoleh refleksi dari pengalaman mahasiswa yang memanfaatkan teknologi digital untuk melakukan proses pembelajaran secara online melalui teknologi konferensi video. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara terhadap empat informan dari empat jurusan berbeda dan studi literatur. Analisis data penerimaan teknologi komunikasi mahasiswa dilakukan menggunakan Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) yang diadaptasi dari penelitian Mayring (2010). Hasil analisis dari data wawancara terhadap empat informan menunjukkan bahwa penerimaan teknologi mahasiswa tidak menjadi satu-satunya faktor yang mempengaruhi motivasi mahasiswa dalam menjalankan kuliah online. Faktor-faktor yang turut mempengaruhi motivasi mahasiswa menjalankan kuliah online di antaranya adalah tuntutan perkuliahan, tugas yang diberikan, serta sistem belajar yang digunakan saat menjalankan kelas online. Motivasi mahasiswa dalam menjalankan kuliah online perlu diperhatikan karena berperan dalam pemahamannya mengenai materi yang dipelajari.

The Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia has an impact on changes in policies and the learning process at Budi Luhur University (UBL). The complete online learning policy has been implemented since the 2nd semester of 2019/2020, which began in March 2020. Students and lecturers carry out teaching and learning activities through an e-learning system developed in 2005. Although it has been implemented for a long time, the level of acceptance has never been measured comprehensively. This research has a contribution in measuring the level of acceptance of the e-learning. In addition, before the Covid-19 pandemic, the use of the e-learning system was still partially implemented and only for a few courses. In this study, an analysis of the student acceptance of the UBL e-learning system was carried out by involving respondents and a more comprehensive acceptance model. The modeling used in this study refers to the Comprehensive Technology Acceptance Model (CTAM) with seven exogenous variables and five endogenous variables. Testing and analysis are based on variant-based structural equation models, namely Partial Least Square (PLS) using the SmartPLS application. The results show that nine main factors influence student acceptance of the e-learning system: system quality, content quality, information quality, accessibility, enjoyment, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and student attitudes towards applications and behavioral intention to use. This research is helpful for UBL and other educational institutions as material for developing a quality e-learning system accepted by its users.

Millions in taxpayer and foundation euros and dollars have been spent building and testing educational video games, games for health, and serious games. What have been the fruits of this frenzy of activity? What educational video game has had the reach and impact of Sesame Street or Blues Clues television shows? By comparison, the Children’s Television Workshop (CTW) managed to get Sesame Street off the ground within a couple of years, writing the basic scientific literature on educational media design in the process. Not only is Sesame Street well known and proven, it laid the basis for every effective educational show to follow. This article explores the differences between the CTW scientific approach to educational media production and the mostly nonscientific approach consuming so many resources in the educational games, games for health, and serious games movements. Fundamental scientific questions that remain unanswered are outlined.
