Sodium hydride reductions of aryl methanesulfonates afford dimeric sulfone-sulfonate esters as well as products arising from SO bond rupture. SO bond rupture becomes more competitive as the LUMO energy of the sulfonate ester declines. Exploration of the chemistry of a sulfone-sulfonate ester revealed a complex novel reaction that resulted in the formation of, inter alia, a dichloromethanesulfonate ester and a trichloromethanesulfonate ester. The first successful approaches to the synthesis of the heretofore unknown trichloromethanesulfonates and dichloromethanesulfonates are reported. Key words: sodium hydride reductions, sulfenes, sulfone-sulfonate esters

Reduction of the dihalogeno complexes RuCl2(PPh3)4 and NiBr2L2 (L = tertiary phosphine) with sodium hydride in MeCN in the presence of tetrafluoroethylene gives complexes containing five-membered MC4F8 rings. 1,2-Dihydrotetrafluoroethane is a by-product of these syntheses, especially when hydrogen is added. The M—C bonds of the metalla-perfluorocyclopentane complexes are remarkably stable against hydrogenolysis. Key words: metalla-octafluorocyclopentanes of ruthenium(II) and nickel(II).

A previous report has established the intermediacy of a sulfide-sulfonate ester in the one-pot conversion of an aryl mercaptan and a sulfonate ester into the corresponding trithioorthoformate. This report describes evidence for the sequential intermediacy of a bissulfide-sulfonate ester and a dithiosulfène in the conversion of the sulfide-sulfonate ester into the trithioorthoformate. A new sulfonate ester is shown to give the highest yield of trithioorthoformate. Key words: single electron transfer, sulfonate esters, sulfenes.

Sixty-four yearling steers were fed a fattening diet plus 0.5% NaCl (control), 2% limestone, 5% NaCl, or 5% NaCl plus 2% limestone. Feeding 5% NaCl and 5% NaCl plus 2% limestone resulted in decreased total gain (P < 0.01), average daily gain (P < 0.01) and carcass weight (P < 0.05) while 5% NaCl decreased the efficiency of organic matter utilization (P < 0.05). Sodium chloride supplementation decreased ruminal pH and acetate to propionate ratio at day 62 but there was no effect of NaCl evident in samples collected on day 118. Blood glucose was decreased (P < 0.05) at days 62 and 118 in steers fed 5% NaCl and 5% NaCl plus 2% limestone. Supplementation with high levels of sodium chloride nonsignificantly increased the percentage of starch in cecal and colon digesta samples collected at slaughter. Also the NaCl treatment decreased pH (P < 0.05) in the colon and acetate to propionate ratio (P < 0.10) in the cecum. Although NaCl supplementation altered ruminal and digestive parameters, it did not result in increased performance. Key words: Sodium chloride, limestone, beef cattle, growth

In four rumen-cannulated sheep fed 0, 1.5, 3.0 and 4.5% NaHCO3, the buffer increased rumen pH (P < 0.01) and isobutyrate (P < 0.10) but not rumen ammonia, lactate or other volatile fatty acids. Water intake increased (P < 0.01), liquid turnover rate varied quadratically (P < 0.09) and solids retention time and rumen solids volume varied cubically (P < 0.09 and P < 0.01) with NaHCO3 levels. Key words: Sodium bicarbonate, liquid turnover rate, solids retention time, sheep

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the digestive tract (1%). These tumors express the CD 117 in 95% of cases. The stomach is the preferential localization (70%). Diagnosis is difficult and sometimes late. Progress of imaging has greatly improved the management and the prognosis. Computed tomography (CT) is the gold standard for diagnosis, staging, and treatment follow-up. The increasing recognition of GIST’s histopathology and the prolonged survival revealed some suggestive imaging aspects. Key words: gastro-intestinal stromal tumors; computed tomography; diagnosis

This article aims at describing the obseroance of wasiat wajibah (compulsory bequeathment) in the Islamic court of Banten, analyzing the provision of the substitute heir and adopted children in the Compilation of  Islamic Law (KHI). In addition, the ideal laws to manage the innheritance rules in Indonesia. This article is library research by using doctrinal approach and using case study and survey methods. The data was, then, analyzed by using analytical descriptive and analytical correlative methods. The result showed that the observance of wasiat wajibah in the Islamic court of  Banten employed by judges is by using the Mawali Hazairin’s Doctrine. The criteria of the adoption of substitute heir and adopted children in the KHI is the attempts of Ulama and many judgees junst in giving legal justice and certainty to the society.   Key Words: Islamic Inheritance Law, Compilation of Islamic Law, Islamic court of  Banten

Five phosphorus rates (0, 5, 10, 20 and 30 kg P/ha) were tested with four rice genotypes in Boro (BRRI dhan36, BRRI dhan45, EH1 and EH2) and T. Aman (BRRI dhan30, BRRI dhan49, EH1 and EH2) season. Phosphorus rates did not influence grain yield irrespective of varieties in T. Aman season while in Boro season P response was observed among the P rates. Application of P @ 10 kg/ha significantly increased the grain yield. But when P was applied @ 20 and 30 kg P/ha, the grain yield difference was not significant. The optimum and economic rate of P for T. Aman was 20 kg P/ha but in Boro rice the optimum and economic doses of P were 22 and 30 kg/ha, respectively. Hybrid entries (EH1 and EH2) used P more efficiently than inbred varieties. A negative P balance was observed up to 10 kg P/ha.
