THE INHERITANCE OF ASCORBIC ACID IN RED RASPBERRY
Keyword(s):
Combining ability for ascorbic acid was studied in fruit and leaves of red raspberry (Rubus idaeus, R. strigosus) progenies produced by crossing each of four cultivars with three other cultivars and their S2 selections. General combining abilities were significant in two fruit samples, but specific combining abilities in the second sample only. In the leaf sample, specific combining abilities were significant; but general combining abilities were not. General effects of the cultivars for fruit ascorbic acid were similar to previous effects on the cultivars themselves. Ascorbic acid levels of these crosses were higher than those of two parental clones grown in this experiment.
