The routine rate of oxygen uptake, of 12 groups of zebrafish aged 0 to 100 days, was measured in well-aerated water free of zinc. The relationship between the rate of oxygen uptake (X) and survival time (T) in four toxic solutions of zinc was[Formula: see text]throughout the life cycle, where Ts, Xs, and K were constants. We measured the oxygen uptake of the barnacle Balanus eburneus Gould during the following stages of its life cycle: (1) naupliar stages 1, 4 and 6; (2) cyprid; (3) postmetamorphosis adult (pinhead); and (4) large adult. Mass specific oxygen uptake [Formula: see text] increased by 60% during development from naupliar stage 1 to stage 6. An eightfold drop in [Formula: see text] occurred with the molt from stage 6 to cyprid. [Formula: see text] increased by fourfold after metamorphosis of the cyprid into the pinhead, the smallest adult. The slopes of the regression lines describing the relationship between nonmass specific O2 uptake and dry body weight (Wb) were (1) 1.27 for nauplii, (2) 0.87 for large adults, and (3) 0.75 for all life cycle stages studied except cyprids.

The growth of male and female parasitic stages of Nematospiroides dubius from male and female ASH/CS1 mice was measured in terms of dry weight. No sex-linked resistance of mice to infection with N. dubius was apparent, as growth was the same in both sexes of host. The growth rate did not alter when moulting occurred.All parasitic stages of N. dubius consumed oxygen in vitro and oxygen was also shown to be necessary for motility and survival.The relationship between body size and metabolic rate was established for male and female parasitic N. dubius and the b values indicated that aerobic metabolism is of functional importance to this species.The size/metabolism relationship for the whole life-cycle was established.

The growth of the three free-living stages of N. dubius was measured in terms of dry and fresh weight. Changes in body water content during moulting were demonstrated by variations in dry weight when expressed as a percentage of fresh weight. The respiration rate of the larvae increased until they became infective, after which time it decreased until five days later no oxygen consumption could be recorded. The inability of all larval stages to withstand anaerobic conditions indicated that their metabolism was essentially aerobic. The relationship between body size and metabolic rate was established for each stage and its significance in relation to the life-cycle discussed.

Seasonal changes in the percent total lipid content of Mysis relicta were investigated in four lakes in southern Ontario. Stony and Twelve Mile lakes contain populations of Mysis with a 1-yr life cycle, while Crystal and Boshkung lakes have populations with a 2-yr life cycle. Mature female and male mysids have a lipid content between 15 and 33% and between 14 and 25%, respectively, while juvenile mysids have approximately 10% less total lipids than adults. The relationship between total lipid and lipid-free dry weight is best described by the power curve Y = aXb and is the same (ANCOVA, p < 0.05) in all four mysid populations. Lipid content accumulates steadily with time as the mysid grows, and lipid reserves do not appear to influence mysid time to maturity. For studies on the transfer of energy and lipophilic organic contaminants through the food web, the results imply that seasonal and body size differences of organisms are important considerations.

Background: This study assessed the relationship between lower limb hemodynamics and metabolic parameters with walking tolerance in patients with intermittent claudication (IC). Patients and methods: Resting ankle-brachial index (ABI), baseline blood flow (BF), BF response to reactive hyperemia (BFRH), oxygen uptake (VO2), initial claudication distance (ICD) and total walking distance (TWD) were measured in 28 IC patients. Pearson and Spearman correlations were calculated. Results: ABI, baseline BF and BF response to RH did not correlate with ICD or TWD. VO2 at first ventilatory threshold and VO2peak were significantly and positively correlated with ICD (r = 0.41 and 0.54, respectively) and TWD (r = 0.65 and 0.71, respectively). Conclusions: VO2peak and VO2 at first ventilatory threshold, but not ABI, baseline BF and BFHR were associated with walking tolerance in IC patients. These results suggest that VO2 at first ventilatory threshold may be useful to evaluate walking tolerance and improvements in IC patients.

Research on the impact of the introduction of micro fertilizers and growth promoters on a background of mineral fertilizer and without N90R45К120 spent on old peat in shallow carbonate floodplain r.Supiy, Yahotyn Kyiv region. Power peat horizon about 60-70 cm, 7,4-7,6 pH of the aqueous extract, stupas schedule 56-60%, density 0,49-0,52 assembly soil, total nitrogen content (%) - 1.9; gross forms of phosphorus - 0,4, potassium 0.2, 20% lime. In experiments studying biological rehoplant, radustym, Biolan, emistim, Jets, humisol, plantafol, radyfarm and micronutrients: copper, boric acid, manganese sulphate, zinc sulphate, potassium humates. Treatment drugs conducted in the spring by spraying mixtures. Space research area of 60 m2, three-time repetition. It is established that the use of growth stimulants and micronutrients in the background N90R45К120 provided the highest yield mixtures of years, against making BIOLan - 9.9 t / ha Radyfarmu - 9.6 t / ha Radostymu 9.3 t / ha dry weight. In areas for making other preparations were intermediate yield growth rates - 0.5 - 2.0 t / ha dry weight. Also good gains herbage yields obtained by making all kinds of micronutrients and growth stimulants in the background without making makrodobryv which was within 5.3 - 6.9 t / ha to control without fertilization - 4.5 t / ha dry weight. In deep peat copper fertilizer (25 kg / ha of copper sulphate or 5 kg / ha pirytnoho cinders) in all zones should be making every 3-4 years, and zinc, cobalt and molybdenum advisable to make time for the growing season, spring, by foliar application in such numbers: ammonium molibdenovokyslyy - 0.3 kg / ha; cobalt sulfate - 3 kg / ha zinc sulphate 0.5 kg / ha or placers these salts should be mixed with major fertilizer.

So far little attention has been given the differences or the compatibilities between CSR and innovation. Few works treats CSR in combination with innovation. What exactly is the relationship between CSR and innovation? Recent phenomena such as open innovation is based on the concept that the stakeholder's dialogue that overlaps with some dimensions of CSR. Being innovative means to bring organizational and technical improvements which will translate into a better position in the market. These improvements don't just aim the product, but the process by which it is obtained and its whole life-cycle. We're talking about a new approach to innovation, namely its orientation towards sustainability. Although SMEs have many features which facilitate implementation of CSR, activities of this type in such organizations are still limited. SMEs managers often make choices that are related to rational management. This leads to divergence between economical and social goals. Through a qualitative exploration of the concepts of CSR and innovation, we wanted to find out from some managers whether there is a link between innovation and CSR in SMEs and whether the activities corresponding to the two concepts overlap in a certain measure.

Abstract Business takeovers and new venture start-ups are two important and distinct entry modes of entrepreneurship. They differ from resource-based and organizational ecology perspectives. We compare firm survival patterns and determinants associated with the two entry modes. From two large French datasets, we find that business takeovers have a higher survival rate than new venture start-ups. However, these differences in survival probability reduce over the entrepreneurship life cycle and when controlling for different entrepreneur and firm characteristics. Moreover, we identify differences in determinants of survival for the two groups, highlighting a distinction between the two entrepreneurship entry modes. This work contributes to the literature on the relationship between entrepreneurship entry and firm survival, thereby contributing to both entrepreneurship and firm survival research.
