Manganiferous garnet underlying the Bousquet gold orebody, Quebec: metamorphosed manganese sediment as a guide to gold ore

Garnet–quartz–muscovite rock stratigraphically underlies a volcanogenic pyritic gold orebody within Bousquet Township, Abitibi greenstone belt, Quebec. Garnet constitutes only 3% of the rock within muscovite-rich layers near its east and west ends whereas the rock contains 12% of garnet near its center. Trails of quartz, carbonate, and sulphide inclusions and parallel bands of an ultrafine black opaque mineral produce a layered appearance in the garnet. Garnet consists of 25% MnO and is zoned with maximum MnO content at its center. Furthermore, MnO content is greatest in garnet near the center and stratigraphic top of the rock and decreases systematically to the east, west, and stratigraphic base. Pb, Zn, and Ba exhibit similar enrichment trends from stratigraphic base to top of the rock; however Ba remains abundant in the overlying orebody.The interpretation is that the garnet rock was a primary Mn-rich sediment that accumulated near a sea-floor hydrothermal vent. By analogy with modern hydrothermal Mn deposits, the garnets are believed to be metamorphosed equivalents of Archean manganese nodules. The spatial relationship of the garnet rock to gold ore, the increase in MnO/FeO in garnet toward ore, and the large areal extent of the rock indicate its usefulness in exploration for gold mineralization.

Mast cells in the dura mater of the rat may play a role in cerebral pathologies including neurogenic inflammation (vasodilation; plasma extravasation) and headache pain . As has been suggested for other tissues, dural mast cells may exhibit a close spatial relationship to nerves. There has been no detailed ultrastructural description of mast cells in this tissue; therefore, the goals of this study were to provide this analysis and to determine the spatial relationship of mast cells to nerves and other components of the dura mater in the rat.Four adult anesthetized male Wistar rats (290-400 g) were fixed by perfusion through the heart with 2% glutaraldehyde and 2.8% paraformaldehyde in a potassium phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) for 30 min. The head of each rat was removed and stored in fixative for a minimum of 24 h at which time the dural coverings were removed and dissected into samples that included the middle meningeal vasculature. Samples were routinely processed and flat embedded in LX 112. Thick (1 um) sections from a minimum of 3 blocks per rat were stained with toluidine blue (0.5% aqueous).

This paper describes a methodological approach that is able to analyse socio-demographic and -economic data in large-scale spatial detail. Based on the two variables, population density and annual income, one investigates the spatial relationship of these variables to identify locations of imbalance or disparities assisted by bivariate choropleth maps. The aim is to gain a deeper insight into spatial components of socioeconomic nexuses, such as the relationships between the two variables, especially for high-resolution spatial units. The used methodology is able to assist political decision-making, target group advertising in the field of geo-marketing and for the site searches of new shop locations, as well as further socioeconomic research and urban planning. The developed methodology was tested in a national case study in Germany and is easily transferrable to other countries with comparable datasets. The analysis was carried out utilising data about population density and average annual income linked to spatially referenced polygons of postal codes. These were disaggregated initially via a readapted three-class dasymetric mapping approach and allocated to large-scale city block polygons. Univariate and bivariate choropleth maps generated from the resulting datasets were then used to identify and compare spatial economic disparities for a study area in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany. Subsequently, based on these variables, a multivariate clustering approach was conducted for a demonstration area in Dortmund. In the result, it was obvious that the spatially disaggregated data allow more detailed insight into spatial patterns of socioeconomic attributes than the coarser data related to postal code polygons.

Abstract A 54-year-old man with a right hemiparesis was found to have an intrasellar intercarotid communicating artery associated with agenesis of the right internal carotid artery. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies demonstrated the spatial relationship of the anomalous artery to the surrounding structures, thus suggesting an embryonic enlargement of the capsular artery as a source of this anomalous artery.

The subject of the research is the methods of forecasting the Eastern Transbaikalia - a large mining region of Russia, in which the main internal and external criteria for ore content are established by modern geological mapping at a scale of 1:1,000,000. The article considers endogenous geochemical criteria for gold concentration in the Earth’s crust of the region, which constitute a mandatory methodological method for predicting gold ore objects at any scale. The aim of the work is to clarify the achieved level of knowledge about the mineralogical and geochemical criteria for gold concentration in the course of the evolution of the Earth’s crust up to the formation of industrial deposits and the isolation of ore formations. The methodology of the study is to systematize a huge amount of factual material concerning the processes of natural concentration of gold, to analyze its representativeness, to assess the completeness and reliability of published and stock information used to clarify the mineralogical and geochemical criteria for predicting ore gold. Using the chemical properties of gold, the forms of finding gold, amount of it in the forming geological complexes and natural environments, their evolution, distribution in structural and tectonic zones, some causes of concentration and mineralogical and geochemical prediction criteria are considered. Special attention is paid to the need to study and account for nanoscale (dispersed) gold. As the main ore-formation units of gold mineralization, standardized ore formations are defined with a division into gold ore proper, complex gold-bearing and gold-bearing and geological and industrial types of deposits. There are 15 geological and industrial types, of which 13 are transbaikal deposits standards and two are attracted from other regions. These types of deposits differ in the number of objects related to them. Due to some similarity in the composition of ore matter, geological and industrial types differ in the most important classification characteristics for the forecast. Areas of distribution of direct and indirect mineralogical and geochemical features grouped into mineralogical and geochemical forecast criteria are promising for endogenous concentration of gold mineralization

In view of the inaccuracy of the traditional correlation analysis method, this paper proposes a correlation analysis method between the multifractal characteristics of regional landforms and the development of geological disasters. Firstly, the multifractal characteristics of regional landforms are described by using the basic fractal characteristics of self-similarity or scale invariance. Then the corresponding relation table is established according to the width of the fractal spectrum and the number of landslides and hidden dangers, and the spatial relationship of geological disaster development is analyzed. Combined with the above-mentioned spatial relationship of geological disaster development and the multifractal characteristic data of regional landforms, the correlation coefficient between the two is calculated to complete the correlation analysis between the multifractal characteristics of regional geomorphology and the development of geological disasters. The experimental results show that compared with the traditional correlation analysis method, the correlation analysis results of the multifractal characteristics of regional geomorphology and the development of geological disasters are more accurate.

Tanzania is one of the leading gold mining countries in the world and the discovery of new gold resources on its territory is an actual task. Known gold deposits are concentrated mainly in the northwest of the country, in the metallogenic zone of Lake Victoria, where they are associated with the Archean greenstone belts, and to a lesser extent – in the southwest, in the ore regions of Lupa and Mpanda, confined to the Ubendian Paleoproterozoic mobile belt. With regard to the eastern regions of Tanzania, where the Proterozoic structures of the Uzagaran mobile belt are developed, until recently in this region any significant manifestations of gold mineralization were not known. As a result of our research in the northern part of the Morogoro province of the Republic of Tanzania, a new previously unknown gold deposit Mananila was discovered. It is represented by a large volume, up to 400–450 m long, up to 60–80 m thick, mineralized shear zone over intensely leached and schistosed migmatites, gneisses, amphibolites, penetrated by echelon systems of quartz veins and veinlet, steeply dipping bodies of quartz breccia up to 1.0–1.5 m thick. Gold contents range from 0.61 to 8.11 g/t, the average zone content is 2.5–3.0 g/t. Parallel to the main zone, similar structures are developed on the site, although they are of lower thickness. The forecast resources of the deposit are estimated at 20 tons of gold. 2.8 km to the east from the Mananila field, the recently discovered Mazizi gold deposit is located, and a number of small occurrences of gold are also known in the region. All these objects are located within a large shear zone of the northeastern strike, up to 4–5 km width, over 20 km in length. This serves as the basis for the identification of a new gold ore region in the northern part of the Morogoro province of the United Republic of Tanzania, within the Proterozoic mobile belt of Usagaran, the possible gold content of which has never been previously discussed in geological literature.

In differentiating 3T3-L1 cells, lipid spheres, the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), microperoxisomes, and mitochondria form "constellations" that may reflect the interplay of lipid metabolizing enzymes in these organelles. ER cisternae are also situated very close to "rosettes,"plasmalemmal specializations found in mature adipocytes in vivo. As in hepatocytes and absorptive cells of the intestine, this spatial relationship of ER and plasmalemma suggests a role for rosettes in the uptake of exogenous lipid precursors. The morphological differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes includes the loss of "stress fibers" and the appearance of microfilament like structures that encase, in a complex manner, the cytosolic lipid spheres that appear during differentiation. Other features described for the first time in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes include: (a) the presence of an extensive acid phosphatase (AcPase) positive GERL from which coated vesicles apparently arise (these coated vesicles display AcPase activity and are much smaller and far more numerous than the coated vesicles that seem to arise from the plasmalemmal coated pits); (b) the abundance of AcPase-positive autophagic vacuoles; and (c) a high level of alpha-naphthyl-acetate-esterase activity which, by light microscopy cytochemistry, appears to be localized in the cytosol.

Abstract Dirivultid copepods (Siphonostomatoida), one of the most successful meiobenthic organisms found at deep-sea hydrothermal vents, have been the focus of most previous ecological studies among meiofauna in these habitats. The ecology of Harpacticoida, a major benthic copepod group in typical deep-sea floor, however, is not well understood in terms of variations in community structure and controlling factors at venting sites. The spatial heterogeneities in benthic harpacticoid composition and their association with environmental parameters were investigated at hydrothermal vent chimney structures in the calderas of three neighbouring sea knolls (Bayonnaise Knoll, Myojin Knoll and Myojin-sho Caldera) in the western North Pacific. While a previous study had reported the distribution of dirivultids was strongly associated with spatial differences in stable carbon isotopic signatures (δ13C) of organic matter in the detritus on active chimneys in the field, multivariate analyses detected no significant corelation between the parameter and harpacticoid composition in this study. Instead, high associations of the harpacticoid composition with differences in water depth and total organic carbon (TOC) concentration were detected. Ectinosomatidae dominated at vent sites with lower TOC values in the shallowest Bayonnaise Knoll, while they were less prevalent at deeper vent fields in the other knolls, where Miraciidae was the most abundant family. This study indicated the availability of vent chemoautotrophic carbon is not a primary factor controlling the composition of harpacticoids even in the habitats on the hydrothermal vents, but instead by the food amount, regardless of its resources (including marine snow from the sea surface), in the study area.
