Abstract Objective To assess the association between intake of non-sugar sweeteners (NSS) and important health outcomes in generally healthy or overweight/obese adults and children. Design Systematic review following standard Cochrane review methodology. Data sources Medline (Ovid), Embase, Cochrane CENTRAL, WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform, Clinicaltrials.gov, and reference lists of relevant publications. Eligibility criteria for selecting studies Studies including generally healthy adults or children with or without overweight or obesity were eligible. Included study designs allowed for a direct comparison of no intake or lower intake of NSS with higher NSS intake. NSSs had to be clearly named, the dose had to be within the acceptable daily intake, and the intervention duration had to be at least seven days. Main outcome measures Body weight or body mass index, glycaemic control, oral health, eating behaviour, preference for sweet taste, cancer, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, mood, behaviour, neurocognition, and adverse effects. Results The search resulted in 13 941 unique records. Of 56 individual studies that provided data for this review, 35 were observational studies. In adults, evidence of very low and low certainty from a limited number of small studies indicated a small beneficial effect of NSSs on body mass index (mean difference −0.6, 95% confidence interval −1.19 to −0.01; two studies, n=174) and fasting blood glucose (−0.16 mmol/L, −0.26 to −0.06; two, n=52). Lower doses of NSSs were associated with lower weight gain (−0.09 kg, −0.13 to −0.05; one, n=17 934) compared with higher doses of NSSs (very low certainty of evidence). For all other outcomes, no differences were detected between the use and non-use of NSSs, or between different doses of NSSs. No evidence of any effect of NSSs was seen on overweight or obese adults or children actively trying to lose weight (very low to moderate certainty). In children, a smaller increase in body mass index z score was observed with NSS intake compared with sugar intake (−0.15, −0.17 to −0.12; two, n=528, moderate certainty of evidence), but no significant differences were observed in body weight (−0.60 kg, −1.33 to 0.14; two, n=467, low certainty of evidence), or between different doses of NSSs (very low to moderate certainty). Conclusions Most health outcomes did not seem to have differences between the NSS exposed and unexposed groups. Of the few studies identified for each outcome, most had few participants, were of short duration, and their methodological and reporting quality was limited; therefore, confidence in the reported results is limited. Future studies should assess the effects of NSSs with an appropriate intervention duration. Detailed descriptions of interventions, comparators, and outcomes should be included in all reports. Aim. The aim of this systematic review was to assess the effect of vitamin K supplementation on anthropometric parameters and adipokine levels in adults.Material and Methods. Four databases (PubMed, Web of Sciences, Scopus and the Cochrane Library) were searched to select studies in which the effect of vitamin K supplementation on body weight, body mass index (BMI), fat mass, leptin and adiponectin levels were assessed.Results. We identified nine studies that included a total of 542 subjects. Vitamin K supplementation did not influence body weight, BMI and percentage of fat mass. In addition, the effect of vitamin K supplementation on adipokines levels was equivocal. Conclusions. Vitamin K supplementation did not affect anthropometric parameters and adipokines levels. Nevertheless, further studies are needed to clarify the effect of vitamin K supplementation on these parameters in adults.

Abstract: Glucose is a main compound that has important role in preparation and development  of energy in human body. Blood glucose level is the amount of glucose in the blood. One of the factors that affects blood glucose level is body weight. Body weight is affected by several factors, such as aged, gender, and physical activities. Overweight may cause insulin resistance, results in increasing of the blood glucose level. This study aimed to describe the fasting blood glucose level at students Faculty of Medicine year 2011 Sam Ratulangi University with Body Mass Index (BMI) ≥23 kg/m2. Research method used for this study was cross sectional descriptive survey with purposive sampling method. From 26 respondents, 12 overweight (BMI ≥23 kg/m2) respondents (46,15%) had average fasting blood glucose level 85,4 mg/dL and 14 obese (BMI ≥25 kg/m2) respondents (53,85%) had average fasting blood glucose level 86 mg/dL. Conclusion: the description of fasting blood glucose level at students Faculty of Medicine year 2011 Sam Ratulangi University with Body Mass Index (BMI) ≥23 kg/m2 is at normal level (80-100 mg/dL). Kadar glukosa darah adalah jumlah kandungan glukosa dalam darah. Salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi kadar glukosa darah adalah berat badan. Berat badan dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor, antara lain usia, jenis kelamin, dan aktivitas fisik. Kelebihan berat badan dapat menyebabkan resistensi insulin sehingga kadar glukosa dalam darah meningkat. Peningkatan kadar glukosa darah merupakan salah satu penanda sindroma metabolik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran kadar glukosa darah puasa pada mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Sam Ratulangi Angkatan 2011 dengan Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) ≥23 kg/m2. Jenis penelitian berupa penelitian survey deskriptif cross sectional dengan metode purposive sampling. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 26 orang responden. Hasil penelitian ini didapatkan 12 orang responden (46,15%) yang overweight (IMT ≥23 kg/m2) memiliki rata-rata kadar glukosa darah puasa 85,4 mg/dL dan 14 orang responden (53,85%) yang obesitas (IMT ≥25 kg/m2) memilki rata-rata kadar glukosa darah puasa 86 mg/dL. Simpulan: semua responden mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Sam Ratulangi Angkatan 2011 memiliki kadar glukosa darah puasa normal (80-100 mg/dL). Although some studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of watermelon supplementation on metabolic diseases, no study has explored the potential mechanism by which watermelon consumption improves body weight management. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of fresh watermelon consumption on satiety, postprandial glucose and insulin response, and adiposity and body weight change after 4 weeks of intervention in overweight and obese adults. In a crossover design, 33 overweight or obese subjects consumed watermelon (2 cups) or isocaloric low-fat cookies daily for 4 weeks. Relative to cookies, watermelon elicited more (p < 0.05) robust satiety responses (lower hunger, prospective food consumption and desire to eat and greater fullness). Watermelon consumption significantly decreased body weight, body mass index (BMI), systolic blood pressure and waist-to-hip ratio (p ≤ 0.05). Cookie consumption significantly increased blood pressure and body fat (p < 0.05). Oxidative stress was lower at four week of watermelon intervention compared to cookie intervention (p = 0.034). Total antioxidant capacity increased with watermelon consumption (p = 0.003) in blood. This study shows that reductions in body weight, body mass index (BMI), and blood pressure can be achieved through daily consumption of watermelon, which also improves some factors associated with overweight and obesity (clinicaltrials.gov, NCT03380221).
