A study was made of the extraction of perchloric acid in water-nitrobenzene-18-crown-6 (hereafter L) systems. The experimental data was interpreted on the basis of the assumption that the extraction occurs according the equations H+aq + ClO4,aq- ↔ H+org + ClO4,org- and H+aq + Laq + ClO4,aq- ↔ HL+org + ClO4,org-. Crown is also protonated in the aqueous phase according to the equation H+aq + Laq ↔ HL+aq. The values of the corresponding extraction constants, the protonation constants of 18-crown-6 in nitrobenzene and water and the individual extraction constants of the HL+ species in the water-nitrobenzene system were determined, along with the magnitude of the molar free enthalpy for the transfer of these species across the given phase boundary.

A study has been made of the extraction of Sr and Ba in an aqueous solution of perchloric acid-18-crown-6-bis-1,2-dicarbollylcobaltate-nitrobenzene. It was found that the organic phase contains complexes of the ML2+org type ( M = Sr2+, Ba2+) that are converted to ML22+org when the concentration of crown (cL) is greater than the concentration of bis-1,2-dicarbollylcobaltate (cB). The values of the corresponding extraction constants, individual extraction constants and stability constants of the extracted species in the organic phase were determined. The system can be utilized for separation applications at concentrations here cL < cB.

The stability constants for the ML+ complex species, where M+ is an alkali metal cation and L is dibenzo-18-crown-6, in nitrobenzene saturated with water were calculated by employing published equilibrium data. The stability is found to increase in the cation order Li+ < Cs+ < Rb+ < K+ < Na+. For the NaL+, KL+, RbL+, and CsL+ complex cations the individual extraction constants in the water-nitrobenzene system were determined; their values increase in the series Na+ < K+ < Rb+ < Cs+.

Basic scattering functions were used in a novel calculation of the turbidity ratios for particles having the relative refractive index m = 1.001, 1.005 (0.005) 1.315 and the size α = 0.05 (0.05) 6.00 (0.10) 15.00 (0.50) 70.00 (1.00) 100, where α = πL/λ, L is the diameter of the spherical particle, λ = Λ/μ1 is the wavelength of light in a medium with the refractive index μ1 and Λ is the wavelength of light in vacuo. The data are tabulated for the wavelength λ = 546.1/μw = 409.357 nm, where μw is the refractive index of water. A procedure has been suggested how to extend the applicability of Tables to various refractive indices of the medium and to various turbidity ratios τa/τb obtained with the individual pairs of wavelengths λa and λb. The selection of these pairs is bound to the sequence condition λa = λ0χa and λb = λ0χb, in which b-a = δ = 1, 2, 3; a = -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, ..., b = a + δ = -1, 0, 1, 2, ...; λ0 = λa=0 = 326.675 nm; χ = 546.1 : 435.8 = 1.2531 is the quotient of the given sequence.

Geometry and energy parameters of the individual dissociation intermediate steps of CH4 molecule, parameters of the barrier to linearity and singlet-triplet separation of the CH2 molecule have been calculated by means of the UMP method in the minimum basis set augmented with the bond functions. The results agree well with experimental data except for the geometry of CH2(1A1) and relatively high energy values of CH(2II) and CH2(1A1) where the existence of two UHF solutions indicates a necessity of description of the electronic correlation by more exact methods of quantum chemistry.

The solubilities of cesium dianilinetetraisothiocyanatochromate(III) in water as well as in aqueous methanol, isopropyl alcohol, tert-butyl alcohol and acetonitrile were measured as a function of temperature and solvent composition. The Gibbs energies, enthalpies and entropies of transfer of the salt from water to the given solvents have been evaluated from experimental data. The contribution of [Cr(C6H5NH2)2(NCS)4]- ion to the Gibbs energy of transfer of the investigated salt has been calculated using the tetraphenylarsonium tetraphenylborate (TATB) reference electrolyte assumption.

Centrifugal pumps are being used increasingly for transportation of slurries through pipelines. To design a slurry handling system it is essential to have a knowledge of the effects of suspended solids on the pump performance. A new correlation to predict the head reduction factor for centrifugal pumps handling solids has been developed. This correlation takes into account the individual effect of particle size, particle size distribution, specific gravity and concentration of solids on the centrifugal pump performance characteristics. The range of validity of the correlation has been verified by experiment and by using experimental data available from the literature. The present correlation shows better agreement with the experimental data than existing correlations.

Compression behavior of carbon nanotube bundles and individual carbon nanotubes within the bundle has been studied by using the Suzuki, Shanker, and usual Tait formulations. It is found that the Suzuki formulation is not capable of explaining the compression behavior of nanomaterials. Shanker formulation slightly improves the results obtained by the Suzuki formulation, but only usual Tait’s equation (UTE) of state gives results in agreement to the experimental data. The present study reveals that the product of bulk modules and the coefficient of volume thermal expansion remain constant for carbon nanotubes. It has also been found that the individual carbon nanotubes are less compressible than bundles of carbon nanotubes.

Recognition of face has been turned out to be the most important and interesting area in research. A face recognition framework is a PC application that is apt for recognizing or confirming the presence of human face from a computerized picture, from the video frames etc. One of the approaches to do this is by matching the chosen facial features with the pictures in the database. It is normally utilized as a part of security frameworks and can be implemented in different biometrics, for example, unique finger impression or eye iris acknowledgment frameworks. A picture is a mix of edges. The curved line potions where the brightness of the image change intensely are known as edges. We utilize a similar idea in the field of face-detection, the force of facial colours are utilized as a consistent value. Face recognition includes examination of a picture with a database of stored faces keeping in mind the end goal to recognize the individual in the given input picture. The entire procedure covers in three phases face detection, feature extraction and recognition and different strategies are required according to the specified requirements.

<p>This study explores the factors that affect the incomes of real estate salespersons by applying hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) to investigate the incomes of real estate salespersons in Kaohsiung. A total of 510 questionnaires were distributed to large chain housing agencies, of which a total of 319 effective samples were retrieved from 54 branch stores, for an effective return rate of 62.55%. The empirical results showed that individual incomes vary significantly from store to store. About 4.8% of the variation in individual incomes was due to differences among different branch stores. The individual income of a real estate salesperson is also significantly affected by individual-level factors such as age, working hours, and working experience. The marginal impact of education level, age, working hours, and working experience on real estate salesperson income is moderated by the type of store at which the given salesperson works. In addition, a branch store’s location has a direct, significant, and positive impact on a real estate salesperson’s income.</p>

The frequency mistuning that occurs due to manufacturing variations and wear and tear of the blades can have a significant effect on the flutter and forced response behavior of a blade row. Similarly, asymmetries in the aerodynamic or excitation forces can tremendously affect the blade responses. When conducting CFD simulations, all blades are assumed to be tuned (i.e. to have the same natural frequency) and the aerodynamic forces are assumed to be the same on each blade except for a shift in interblade phase angle. The blades are thus predicted to vibrate at the same amplitude. However, when the system is mistuned or when asymmetries are present, some blades can vibrate with a much higher amplitude than the tuned, symmetric system. In this research, we first conduct a deterministic forced response analysis of a mistuned rotor and compare the results to experimental data from a compressor rig. It is shown that tuned CFD results cannot be compared directly with experimental data because of the impact of frequency mistuning on forced response predictions. Moreover, the individual impact of frequency, aerodynamic, and forcing function perturbations on the predictions is assessed, leading to the conclusion that a mistuned system has to be studied probabilistically. Finally, all perturbations are combined and Monte-Carlo simulations are conducted to obtain the range of blade response amplitudes that a designer could expect.
