The reaction of [Pt(PPh3)4] with [arachno-4,5-C2B7H13] in benzene solution at room temperature yields the arachno ten-vertex platinadicarborane [9,9-( PPh3)2-arachno-9,5,6-PtC2B7H11] as white air-stable needles (80%). Crystals are monoclinic, space group P21/n, with a = 1 433.9(3), b = 1 495.9(3), c = 1 852.5(4) pm, β = 105.89(2)°, and Z = 4. From 5 193 observed [I < 2σ(I)] data, the final R(RW) were 0.0376(0.0374) (406 variables). The structure is based on an arachno {B10H142-}-type ten-vertex {PtC2B7} skeleton with the Pt and two C atoms respectively in the 9,5 and 6 positions in the open face. The assigned 11B and 1H NMR chemical shifts have been measured and are briefly compared to those of the [arachno-4,5-C2B7H13] substrate.

The donor-free silanimines tBu2Si=N-SiRtBu2 (R = tBu, Ph), which are prepared from tBu2ClSiN3 and NaSiRtBu2 at −78 ◦C inBu2O, decompose in benzene at room temperature with the formation of isobutene. Products of ene reactions of isobutene and tBu2Si=N-SiRtBu2 (R = tBu, Ph) are formed. X-Ray quality crystals of H2C=C(CH2SitBu2-NH-SiPhtBu2)2 (monoclinic, space group C2/c, Z = 4) were grown from a benzene solution at ambient temperature, whereas single crystals of H2C=C(CH2SitBu2-NH-SitBu3)2 (monoclinic, space group P21, Z = 2) were obtained by recrystallization from THF

Abstract The molecular structure of the bridged [1]-titanocenophane 1,1'-dimethylsilylene titanocene dichloride, (CH3)2Si(C5H4)2TiCl2, has been investigated by an X-ray structure determination. Crystal data: monoclinic, space group C2/c, Z = 4, a = 1332.9(3), 6 = 988.7(3), c = 1068.9(3) pm, β = 113.43(2)°. The results are compared with the structural dimensions of similar compounds: 1,1'-methylene titanocene dichloride, CH2(C5H4)TiCl2, with the unbridged titanocene dichloride, (C5H5)2TiCl2 and the ethylene-bridged compound (CH2)2(C5H4)2TiCl2

In a systematic search for supramolecular complexes involving all combinations of the cyclic polyethers 12-crown-4 (12C4), 15-crown-5 (15C 5), 18-crown-6 (18C 6) and dibenzo- 18-crown-6 (DB -18C6), and the geminal di- or trisulfones H2C(SO 2Me)2, H2C (SO2Et)2 and HC (SO2Me)3-n (SO2Et)n (n = 0 -3 ) , only the following four complexes could be isolated and unequivocally characterized by elemental analysis and 1H NMR spectroscopy: [(12C4){H2C (SO2Et)2}2] (3), [(18C6){H2C (S O2Me)2}] (4), [(DB -18C 6){H2C (SO2Et)2}] (5) and [(D B -18C 6)2{HC (SO2Me )(SO2Et)2}3] (6). The structure of 3 (triclinic, space group P1̄) consists of crystallographically centrosymmetric formula units, in which the disulfone molecules are bonded on each side of the ring by two C -H ··· O(crown) interactions originating from the central methylene group (H···O 213 pm) and from the methylene group of one EtSO2 moiety ( H ··· O 237 pm). Formula units related by translation are connected into parallel strands by a third type of reciprocal C -H ···O bond (H ···O 232 pm) between the second H atom of the central methylene group and a sulfonyl oxygen atom of the adjacent unit. The structure of 4 (monoclinic, space group C2/c) showed severe disorder of the crown ether and could not be refined satisfactorily. Compounds 5 and 6 crystallized as long and extremely thin fibres, indicative of linear-polymeric supramolecular structures; single crystals for X-ray crystallography were not available.

Reaction of a DMF solution of Cu(S2CNC4H8) with [Ph4P]2[WSe4] affords [Ph4P]2[WSe4- (CuS2CNC4H8)3] (1) and [Ph4P][Cu(SeS2CNC4H )(S2CN2C4H8)] (2) in which a Se atom from the decomposition of the WSe42- anion has reacted with the pyrrolidyldithiocarbamate (C4H8dtc) ligand anion to form the new ligand anion SeS2CNC4H8⊖. Complex 2 crystallizes with four formula units in the monoclinic space group P21/c in a cell of dimensions a = 10.5824(2), b = 18.7575(3), c = 18.3268(4) Å and ß = 109.0980(10)°. 6055 independent reflections above background were measured with a diffractometer and the structure was refined anisotropically to R =0.073. The anion contains a three-coordinated copper(I) atom. The C4H8dtc⊖ ligand is bonded to the Cu+ cation in a terminal fashion, while SeS2CNC4H8⊖ chelates the Cu+ cation. The Se-S bond length is 2.231 (4) Å.

Iron(II) and nickel(II) bis(ligand) complexes of 6-(5-methyl-1,2,4-oxadiazol-3-yl)-2,2′-bipyridine (L) are described. The ligand field in the iron complex is close to that at the singlet ( 1 A1) ? quintet ( 5 T2) crossover and magnetic and Mössbauer spectral evidence indicates that a spin transition occurs in salts of the iron complex but is centred above room temperature. The structures of [FeL2] [CF3SO3]2.CH3CN and [NiL2] [BF4]2.CH3CN were determined and both are very similar to the structures of the corresponding terpyridine complexes. Spectroscopic data indicate that for the iron complex π-interaction between the metal and the ligand is less than that in the terpyridine system. [FeL2] [CF3SO3]2.CH3CN is monoclinic, space group P 21/c; a 8 . 232(5), b 25 . 273(10), c 17 . 306(10) Å, β 92 . 37(3)°, Z 4; [NiL2] [BF4]2.CH3CN is monoclinic, space group P 21/c; a 8 . 136(2), b 17 . 558(2), c 23 . 783(7) Å, β 109 . 32(1)°, Z 4.

Reaction of (1) in CH2Cl2 with benzimidazole yields . The salt [4]+BPh4- has been prepared in THF by metathesis of [4]+Cl- with NaBPh4. Deprotonation of the cationic ring in [4]+BPh4- was accomplished using 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.01,7]undec-7-ene and resulted in the six-membered carbacyclophosphazene (6). Treating 1 with 8 -hydroxyquinoline in CH2Cl2 yields the octahedral cis-complex = 8-oxyquinolinate group). The com pounds [4]+BPh4-, 6 and 7 are characterized by their IR, Raman, 31P{1H} NMR, 13C{1H} NMR, 1H NMR and mass spectra. Crystals suitable for X-ray structure analyses have been obtained for [4]+BPh4- and 7×0.5 CH2Cl2. The colourless plates of [4]+BPh4- crystallize in the triclinic space group P1̄, with the lattice constants a = 1172.7(3), b = 1326.2(3), c = 1806.1(6) pm; α = 100.79(2), β = 103.71(3), γ = 108.18(2)°. The black blocks of 7×0.5 CH2Cl2 crystallize in the monoclinic space group P 21/c with the lattice constants a = 1159.0(10), b = 2008.9(10), c = 2034.6(12) pm; β = 105.86(5)°.
