Numerical analysis of absorbance data for the analytically significant UO22+ - Chromazurol B, UO22+ - Chromazurol S, and UO22+ - Eriochromcyanine R systems in the presence of the cationic surfactant SeptonexR revealed that also in micellar medium, complex equilibria establish and several complexes are formed in dependence on pH and concentration of uranyl ions, reagent, and surfactant. Based on the results, optimum conditions are found for the spectrophotometric determination of low concentration of uranium.

This work is concerned with a detailed study of the reaction of UO2+2 with chromazurol S in the presence of cationic tenside Septonex, which was found to be very promising of the group of cationic tensides. From the study were drawn a number of conclusions regarding the effect of the cationic tenside on the reaction of triphenylmethane dyes with salicylic acid groups with metal cations. Optimum conditions for the spectrophotometric determination of uranium with chromazurol S in the presence of Septonex were found.

The composition, molar absorption, coefficients, equilibrium constants and stability constants for the MLH, ML, M(LH)2 and ML2 complexes have been determined graphically using slope-intercept transformations and numerically from the absorbance-pH curves and from the absorbance dependence on the component concentration, using the PRCEK III and SPEKTFOT programs, or from the continuous variation plots using the JOBCON program. The optimum conditions were found for a spectrophotometric determination of ferric ions with TAR and PAR reagents in pure solutions. The basic parameters of the analytical curves were evaluated using the STAT program.

The complex equilibria of gallium, indium and thallium(III) with analytically important 2-(2-pyridylazo)-1-naphthol-4-sulphonate were studied spectrophotometrically using graphical analysis of the absorbance curves and minimization procedures for the absorbance data using the SPEKTFOT program on the Tesla 200 computer. The study yielded a complete picture of the reaction mechanism of these elements with heterocyclic azodyes. Optimum conditions for the spectrophotometric determination of gallium, indium and thallium using this reagent were found.

The complexation equilibria of Ni(II) with 4-(2-pyridylazo)resorcinol (PAR) and 4-(2-thiazolylazo)resorcinol (TAR) in 30 vol.% ethanol and with 2-(5-bromo-2-pyridylazo)-5-(diethylamino)phenol (BrPADAP) in 10 vol.% ethanol containing 0·1% BRIJ-35 tenside were studied spectrophotometrically. The absorbance data were processed by the SPEFO 8, HALTAFALL SPEFO and SQUAD-G programs. The working procedures for the determination of Ni(II) with the reagents in pure solutions were optimized and statistically evaluated, and PAR was applied to the determination of Ni(II) in drinking water.

The coordination properties of alizarin green series dyes with uranyl ions were studied in the presence of cationoid surfactants (cetylpyridinium bromide, carbethoxypentadecyltrimethylammonium bromide). Ternary complexes of the composition UO2L2S2, UO2L2S4, UO2L2S6, and UO2L3S9, where L is dye and S is surfactant, are formed in weakly acid solutions. The formation constants of the complexes were established and a procedure was worked out for the direct photometric determination of uranium.

The reaction of gallocyanine methyl ester with uranyl ions was studied spectrophotometrically in slightly acid or neutral solutions in 40% (m/m) ethanol. A violet complex of UO2L2 is formed at pH > 5. The conditional stability constants of the complex in the pH 6 - 7.4 range and the equilibrium constants of the coordination reaction were derived from the concentration curves and continuous variations curves. The optimum conditions were sought for the spectrophotometric determination of uranium based on the occurrence of the UO2L2 complex. The relative standard deviation obtained for a uranium concentration of 106 μg l-1 was sr = 2.13%.
