The quantum yields of formation of the methylviologen cation-radical were measured, the effect of pH was studied, and the possibility of photogeneration of hydrogen was examined for systems with disodium 1,5- and 1,8-anthracenedisulphonate in aqueous media or 9-acetylanthracene in micellar media of sodium dodecyl sulphate, in the presence of methylviologen, triethanolamine, and colloidal platinum.

Disodium 1,5- and 1,8-anthracenedisulphonate (ADS) and 9-acetylanthracene form coloured CT complexes with methylviologen (MV2+) in aqueous and micellar media. The complex formation constants and molar absorptivities were determined by the Benesi-Hildebrandt method. In the fluorescence quenching, its static component plays the major role. The dynamic quenching component is determined by the rate constant of electron transfer from the S1 state of ADS to MV2+.

The photolyses of electron donor–acceptor (EDA) complexes formed between both cis-stilbene (cS) and trans-stilbene (tS) as donors and mefhylviologen (MV+2) as acceptor have been carried out in homogeneous ethanolic and in micellar sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) solutions, in the presence of oxygen. The stilbene loss quantum yields (Φ−S) have been determined in both media. Quantum yields were observed to be dependent upon methylviologen concentration and the acidity of media. A reaction scheme is proposed, which accounts for experimental results and can be related to the photochemistry of MV+2 and its cation radical MV•+. Key words: EDA complexes, micelles, methyl viologen, stilbene.

AbstractIn this manuscript was investigated behaviour of drug valsartan by micellar media of anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulphate. As the method was used electrical conductivity for the determination of critical micelle concentration at different temperatures (T = 293.15 - 313.15 K), as well as calculated thermodynamic parameters like standard Gibbs free energy, enthalpy and entropy of micellization. According to contribution of Gibbs free energy is the process of micellization primarily controlled by entropy. Solubilization of valsartan was studied in surfactant system at 298.15 K and physiological conditions pH 7.4 using UV-spectrophotometry at different concentration range (0.001 - 0.07 mol/l) of sodium dodecyl sulphate. The solubilization of drug was observed with increasing concentration of surfactant in aqueous solution.
