Speckle noise present in radar imagery caused by interaction of out –of-phase waves with a target, the objective of this paper is attempt to test filtering techniques consist of Lee, Frost and Gamma Map to identify a potential shrines area in Lembah Bujang using RADARSAT imageries. The multi-temporal images of RADARSAT for years 2003 and 2014 have been used filtering techniques in identifying potential shrines consist of have been used and tested to selected study areas with using processing software of ENVI 4.8 and ArcGIS 10.2. Based on mathematical morphology, the speckles in these images were reduced, once the reduction is achieved, the enhancement of archaeological sites is accomplished. The finding shows that Local Adaptive Filtering on GAMMA Map filter is the best techniques in identifying potential shrines areas at once as guidance to pursuing an area as official gazette historical site in Malaysia context.

Based on the existing algorithm, improved mathematical morphology for image retrieval, a new method, using the combination of edge magnitude histogram and edge angular histogram, was proposed in this paper. Analysis and experimental results reveal that the proposed algorithm has a superior image retrieving performance.

In this article, a new method of vehicles detecting and tracking is presented: A thresholding followed by a mathematical morphology treatment are used. The tracking phase uses the information about a vehicle. An original labeling is proposed in this article. It helps to reduce some artefacts that occur at the detection level. The main contribution of this article lies in the possibility of merging information of low level (detection) and high level (tracking). In other words, it is shown that many artefacts resulting from image processing (low level) can be detected, and eliminated thanks to the information contained in the labeling (high level). The proposed method has been tested on many video sequences and examples are given illustrating the merits of our approach.

According to restrictions existing in the application of single license plate location algorithm in complicated background. A license plate location algorithm based on mathematical morphology and color characteristics is proposed. Firstly, the new method uses Ostu algorithm to select an optimal threshold, and according to the threshold carries on binary processing, then by using a new method of mathematical morphology for image edge detection. Finally combined mathematical morphology with color characteristic to locate license plate .Experiments show that this new method with higher accuracy and fewer restrictions on background is superior to traditional or a single method and can be widely used.

This paper presents a new method to achieve effective text extraction using mathematical morphology. Firstly, the document is segmented and divided into several parts based on the layout. And then, every part is dilated to big connected regions, whose biggest skeleton will be extracted and serve as a structure element (SE). Finally, a proposed region-concatenated operation with the SE will be employed, whose result can be the input of subsequent OCR system. Experimentally, the proposed method is robust to noise, the text orientation, font style and size, language and layout.

To extract the features from a coupler curve is one of key issues in the synthesis of path generating mechanism. Fourier transformation is widely used at present. A new method of feature extraction, named mathematical morphology based method, emerges in resent years. Based on the essential operations of mathematical morphology, the shape spectrum (SS) of the coupler curve is computed. SS is rotation-scale-translation invariant. Therefore, as a means of describing coupler curve, it has possesses advantage over that based on Fourier transformation. In this paper, what kind information involved in SS of a curve is revealed. It is shown that the largest radius of internally tangent circle and the area inside of the curve can be inferred from its SS. This paper also shows that SS is without the information of the structure feature which is necessary to describe a nonsimple closed coupler curve. Eight-figure-shaped coupler curve is the simplest nonsimple closed curve. To describe such curve, three structure parameters of the curve should be involved besides that provided by SS of curve. A method using five numbers to describe and differentiate an eight-figure-shaped coupler curve is proposed in this paper. The five numbers can be obtained from its SS and the structure of the curve. A new formula to compute the similarity between two eight-figure-shaped couplers using the five numbers is presented.
