Abstract Background Early diagnosis of spinal cord neoplasia serves patients from developing a number of complications and even death. Methods After obtaining ethical approval, retrospectively, a total of 53 tissue blocks of patients attended at the spinal ward were reviewed. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 20.0, and p value of less than 0.05 was applied to establish the existence of statistical significance between the compared categorical variables. Results The mean age of the patients was 30.7 ± 15.96 years. Most of the patients 32.1% (n = 17) were aged ≤ 19 years, and majority of the neoplasia 77.3% (n = 41) were extramedullary. Also, majority of the neoplasia 60.4% (n = 32) were benign and the malignant ones were 35.8% (n = 19). The mean duration of onset of symptoms for benign and malignant neoplasia in this study was 13.1 ± 16.4 and 3.4 ± 2.8 years, respectively, with statistical difference (95% CI 2.09–17.35, p = 0.014). Conclusion The patients with spinal cord neoplasia in the present study were of young age, and majority of them had benign neoplasia that were extramedullary located. The mean duration of onset of symptoms for patients with malignant neoplasia was significantly shorter than that of benign neoplasia.

The paper concerns application of vectorcardiography and recurrence-based methods to analyze ECG signals. The first method involves recording the direction and magnitude of electrical forces of the heart by means of a continuous series of vectors that form a curving line around a center, while the second consists in representing the ECG signals in the phase space and searching for the recurrence properties of the registered signals. In both methods, change of analysis domain offers new opportunities for early diagnosis. In this work, discussed methods have been used for the purposes of analysis of selected ECG signals stored in the medical database. Vectorcardiograms were determined on the basis of ECG signals for the Farnk's leads. Signal analysis was carried out with the application of the recurrence plots (RP) method. The proposed approach simplifies assessment of the signal information content by providing patterns characteristic for different myocardial injury. Carried out research requires complementation by results of statistical analysis for various age groups and degrees of myocardial injury.

Osteomyelitis is one of the most feared sequelae of diabetic foot ulceration, which often leads to lower-extremity amputation and disability. Early diagnosis of osteomyelitis increases the likelihood of successful treatment and may limit the amount of bone resected, preserving ambulatory function. Although a variety of techniques exist for imaging the diabetic foot, standard radiography is still the only in-office imaging modality used today. However, radiographs lack sensitivity and specificity, making it difficult to diagnose bone infection at its early stages. In this report, we describe our initial experience with a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT)–based device, which may serve as an accurate and readily available tool for early diagnosis of osteomyelitis in a patient with diabetes. Two patients with infected diabetic foot ulcers were evaluated for osteomyelitis using radiography and CBCT. Positive imaging findings were confirmed by bone biopsy. In both patients, CBCT captured early osteolytic changes that were not apparent on radiographs, leading to early surgical intervention and successful treatment. The CBCT was helpful in facilitating detection and early clinical intervention for osteomyelitis in two diabetic patients with foot ulcers. These results are encouraging and warrant future evaluation.

Early diagnosis of biliary atresia in children is important. Diagnosis of biliary atresia is necessary in the first 2-3 months of life, when there is occurred cirrhotic transformation of the liver tissue and there is an alternative for treatment tactics that is more appropriate than liver transplantation. In this case the diagnostic algorithm of diseases accompanied by cholestasis is rather complicated and based on data of clinical diagnostic tests. There are presented data of the retrospective analysis of the course of the disease in 20 children (14 boys and 6 girls) with biliary atresia and multifactorial statistical analysis of clinical-diagnostic indices of the onset of the disease on the basis of the algorithm for step-by-step diagnosis of biliary atresia in children of early age

The aim of this study was to investigate the relation between urinary TGF-β1, urinary VEGF and renal scarring resulted from VUR. Materials and methods: This study included 141 patients with VUR and 34 healthy sex and age matched children. The statistical analysis consisted of descriptive statistical parameters, KruskalWallis, Mann-Whitney tests and ROC analysis. Results: The urine levels of TGF-β1 and VEGF were significantly increased in children with VUR, compared to the controls. The levels of TGF-β1 urine excretion in children with renal scarring were higher compared children no renal scarring. The indicators of VEGF urine excretion in children with renal scarring compared to indicators in children no renal scarring, were lower, however exceeded the indicators in children of control group. The area under the ROC curve for TGF-β1 was 109.9, for VEGF was 207.6. Conclusions: The study allowed to substantiate and propose non-invasive methods for early diagnosis of renal scarring in children with VUR.

Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder of multiple etiologies. Diabetic neuropathies occur in approximately 50% of individuals with long standing Diabetes. Diabetic foot is one of the commonest chronic complications of Diabetes. In Ayurveda Samhitha, paadadaaha is explained as samanya purvaroopa of Prameha & Daaha is also mentioned as samanya upadrava of Prameha. Paadadaaha is said to be caused due to vitiated Vata & Pitta. Pramehamihira taila has properties such as Vatahara, Pittahara & daaha prashamana. Hence the present clinical study was carried out to assess the effect of Pramehamihira tail in the management of Madhumehaja paadadaaha w.s.r. to Diabetic sensory neuropathy. In this study 30 patients with confirmed diagnosis of paadadaaha were subjected to Paadaabhyanga with Pramehamihira taila for 14 days & assessment of result was done for subjective signs. From statistical analysis, it was evident that, 20 patients (66%) showed good response, 10 patients (44%) showed moderate response & none of the patients showed poor or no response. From the present study it can be concluded that the condition paadadaaha can be managed by Paadaabhyanga with Pramehamihira taila.
