This paper presents a filter for underwater positioning in an aquaculture environment with demanding weather conditions. The positioning system is based on acoustic transponders mounted at a net pen on the sea surface. The transponders are exposed to oscillations due to wave disturbance. This will have an impact on the accuracy of the positioning system. An extended Kalman filter (EKF) solution has been proposed including a wave motion model integrated with the pseudo-range measurements from the transponders. Simulations show that the proposed filter compensates well for the disturbances.

Описано применение акустического зондирования для исследования акустических характеристик верхнего слоя моря с использованием широкополосных остронаправленных инвертированных излучателей,устанавливаемых на дно. В основу метода положен принцип регистрации обратного рассеяния и отраженияот поверхности моря акустических импульсов с различной частотой, позволяющий одновременно измерятьрассеяние и поглощение звука и нелинейный акустический параметр морской воды. Многочастотное зондирование позволяет реализовать акустическую спектроскопию пузырьков в приповерхностных слоях моря,проводить оценку газосодержания и получать данные о спектре поверхностного волнения при различных состояниях моря вплоть до штормовых. Применение остронаправленных высокочастотных пучков ультразвукапозволяет разделить информацию о планктоне и пузырьках и определить с высоким пространственным разрешением структуру пузырьковых облаков, образующихся при обрушении ветровых волн, и структуру планктонных сообществ. Участие планктона в волновом движении в толще морской воды позволяет определитьпараметры внутренних волн спектр и распределение по амплитудам в различное время.This paper represents the application of acoustic probingfor the investigation of acoustical properties of the upperlayer of the sea using broadband narrow-beam invertedtransducers that are mounted on the sea bottom. Thismethod is based on the principle of the recording of thebackscattering and reflections of acoustic pulses of differentfrequencies from the sea surface. That simultaneouslyallows measuring scattering and absorption of the soundand non-linear acoustic parameter of seawater. Multifrequencyprobing allows performing acoustic spectroscopy ofbubbles in the near-surface layer of the sea, estimating gascontent, and obtaining data on the spectrum of the surfacewaves in various states of the sea up to a storm. Utilizationof the high-frequency narrow ultrasound beams allows us toseparate the information about plankton and bubbles and todetermine the structure of bubble clouds, created during thebreaking of wind waves, along with the structure of planktoncommunities with high spatial resolution. The participationof plankton in the wave motion in the seawater columnallows determining parameters of internal waves, such asspectrum and distribution of amplitudes at different times.

According to the array size,underwater positioning system can be divided into long baseline array, short baseline array and Ultra-short baseline array (USBL). This paper introduces USBL space positioning principle, describes the essence of direction estimation based on the phase measurement , analyses the factors that affect the positioning error, in view of the phase error, this paper introduces the method of improving positioning accuracy from extension formation.

An ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) that uses a regional mesoscale atmosphere–ocean coupled model was preliminarily examined to provide realistic sea surface temperature (SST) estimates and to represent the uncertainties of SST in ensemble data assimilation strategies. The system was evaluated through data assimilation cycle experiments over a one-month period from July to August 2014, during which time a tropical cyclone (TC) as well as severe rainfall events occurred. The results showed that the data assimilation cycle with the coupled model reproduced SST distributions realistically even without assimilating SST and sea surface salinity observations, and atmospheric variables provided to ocean models can, therefore, control oceanic variables physically to some extent. The forecast error covariance calculated in the EnKF with the coupled model showed dependency on oceanic vertical mixing for near-surface atmospheric variables due to the difference of variability between the atmosphere and the ocean as well as the influence of SST variations on the atmospheric boundary layer. The EnKF with the coupled model reproduced the intensity change of Typhoon Halong (2014) during the mature phase more realistically than with an uncoupled atmosphere model, although there remained a degradation of the SST estimate, particularly around the Kuroshio region. This suggests that an atmosphere–ocean coupled data assimilation system should be developed that is able to physically control both atmospheric and oceanic variables.
