Modular Mathematical Model for a Low-Speed Maneuvering Simulator

This paper presents the mathematical model of the real-time ship simulator for low-speed maneuvering developed by the University of São Paulo, Transpetro and Petrobras, with the technical collaboration of Brazilian Pilots Association (CONAPRA). The software is based on the TPN (Numerical Offshore Tank) numerical code which had several modifications, in order to perform real-time simulations. After the complete description of the mathematical model, some illustrative results of simulations executed with pilots are exposed.

This paper presents small scale low-speed maneuvering tests with an oceanographic research vessel model. The purpose of the tests is to validate the mathematical model of the real-time ship simulator for low-speed maneuvering developed by the University of São Paulo. The tests are intended to verify the behavior of the vessel and the model under transient and low-speed tests.

This paper discusses the prerequisites and the technical aspects of an innovative real-time simulator for DP-shuttle tanker and FPSO offshore connection operation. This simulator was developed by means of a partnership between the University of Sao Paulo and Petrobras. The software is based on the TPN (Numerical Offshore Tank) numerical code which had several modifications, in order perform real-time simulations. The mathematical models considered in the simulator and the computer architecture (hardware and software) will be presented.

This paper presents small-scale low-speed maneuvering tests with an oceanographic research vessel and the comparison with mathematical model using the real time maneuvering simulator developed by the University of São Paulo (USP). The tests are intended to verify the behavior of the vessel and the mathematical model under transient and low speed tests. The small-scale tests were conducted in deep and shallow waters, with a depth-draft ratio equal to 1.28, in order to verify the simulator ability to represent the vessel maneuverability on both depth conditions. The hydrodynamic coefficients used in the simulator model were obtained by CFD calculations and wind tunnel model tests carried out for this vessel. Standard turning circle and accelerating turn maneuvers were used to compare the experimental and numerical results. A fair agreement was achieved for shallow and deep water. Some differences were observed mainly in the initial phase of the accelerating turn test.

The paper presents the system of predicting the indicators of accreditation of technical universities based on J. Forrester mechanism of system dynamics. According to analysis of cause-and-effect relationships between selected variables of the system (indicators of accreditation of the university) there was built the oriented graph. The complex of mathematical models developed to control the quality of training engineers in Russian higher educational institutions is based on this graph. The article presents an algorithm for constructing a model using one of the simulated variables as an example. The model is a system of non-linear differential equations, the modelling characteristics of the educational process being determined according to the solution of this system. The proposed algorithm for calculating these indicators is based on the system dynamics model and the regression model. The mathematical model is constructed on the basis of the model of system dynamics, which is further tested for compliance with real data using the regression model. The regression model is built on the available statistical data accumulated during the period of the university's work. The proposed approach is aimed at solving complex problems of managing the educational process in universities. The structure of the proposed model repeats the structure of cause-effect relationships in the system, and also provides the person responsible for managing quality control with the ability to quickly and adequately assess the performance of the system.

Worked out methodology of determination of the tensely-deformed state of elements of mobile heat storage of capacity type, that works in the real terms of temperature and power stress on allows to estimate influence of potential energy on resilient deformation that influences on reliability of construction and to give recommendations on planning of tank (capacities) of accumulator. For determination possibly of possible tension of construction of accumulator kinematics maximum terms were certain. As a tank of accumulator shows a soba the difficult geometrical system, the mathematical model of calculation of coefficient of polynomial and decision of task of minimization of functional was improved for determination of tension for Міzеs taking into account the real geometry of equipment. Conducted quantitative estimation of the tensely-deformed state of the union coupling, corps and bottom of thermal accumulator and the resource of work of these constructions is appraised. Thus admissible tension folds 225 МРа.

A high-fidelity real-time simulation code based on a lumped, nonlinear representation of gas turbine components is presented. The code is a general-purpose simulation software environment useful for setting up and testing control equipments. The mathematical model and the numerical procedure are specially developed in order to efficiently solve the set of algebraic and ordinary differential equations that describe the dynamic behavior of gas turbine engines. For high-fidelity purposes, the mathematical model takes into account the actual composition of the working gases and the variation of the specific heats with the temperature, including a stage-by-stage model of the air-cooled expansion. The paper presents the model and the adopted solver procedure. The code, developed in Matlab-Simulink using an object-oriented approach, is flexible and can be easily adapted to any kind of plant configuration. Simulation tests of the transients after load rejection have been carried out for a single-shaft heavy-duty gas turbine and a double-shaft aero-derivative industrial engine. Time plots of the main variables that describe the gas turbine dynamic behavior are shown and the results regarding the computational time per time step are discussed.

Due to the flexible and compact structures, spherical joints are widely used in parallel manipulators and industrial robots. Real-time detection of the clearance between the ball and the socket in spherical joints is beneficial to compensate motion errors of mechanical systems and improve their transmission accuracy. This work proposes an improved capacitive sensor for detecting the micro-clearance of spherical joints. First, the structure of the capacitive sensor is proposed. Then, the mathematical model for the differential capacitance of the sensor and the eccentric micro-displacement of the ball is deduced. Finally, the capacitance values of the capacitive sensor are simulated with Ansoft Maxwell. The simulated values of the differential capacitances at different eccentric displacements agree well with the theoretical ones, indicating the feasibility of the proposed detection method. In addition, the simulated results show that the proposed capacitive sensor could effectively reduce the capacitive fringe effect, improving the measurement accuracy.

IMC controller design for a process is based on choosing a mathematical model that describes the real process. The mathematical model describing such process is often not unique because the real variables of the process can vary within an interval. In such cases the performance of the control system varies, possibly substantially, as process parameters change. To limit such performance variations, we have developed an algorithm for choosing the model gains and the filter time constants of the IMC controller, to minimize the amount of interaction between outputs due to set point changes and disturbances for multivariable decoupled control systems. Some examples illustrate the algorithm.

Abstract The transport problem finds its application in situations where the upper echelons must draw up an optimal plan of resources allocation for combat capabilities on objectives. In order to achieve more reliable results for the real problem, the data needed to formulate the mathematical model are extracted from an order of operations. This paper presents the optimization of military action, showing how to solve a practical problem using the transportation problem.
