A passive morphing may improve the aerodynamic characteristics through structural shape change by aerodynamic loads during the flight, resulting in improving fuel efficiency. The passive morphing structure should have a capability to be highly deformed while maintaining a sufficient stiffness in bending. Honeycombs may be good for controlling both stiffness and flexibility. This paper investigates a honeycomb airfoil’s static deformations through the fluid-structure interaction using computational fluid dynamics and structural finite element analysis. The structural performance will be investigated with varying honeycomb geometries including regular, auxetic and chiral meso-structures.

This paper describes numerical simulation o f flexible High Altitude Long Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (HALE UAV)wingusing two-way fluid structure interaction (FSI) method. The HALE wing is designed with high aspect ratio. This configuration intended to reduce the vehicle induced drag and reduces the lift-loss at wingtip which caused by wingtip vortex. But the structure of the wing itself becomes more elastic that be able to give large deformation when the aerodynamic loads applied. This deformation changes the aerodynamic loads distribution on the wing that gives a new deformation to the wing structure and vice versa. This interaction in a couple process called as fluid structure interaction (FSI). ANSYS 15.0 software was used to simulate fluid structure interaction on the wing. The unsteadiness and viscous flows at low speed are evaluated using the solution o f timedependent Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) with SST k-rn turbulent model. In addition, multiblock structured grids are generated to provide more accurate viscous result and to anticipate negative volume o f the mesh which may occur due to the deformation o f the wing during simulation. Five different o f simulations are performed with variation o f material characteristics including Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio.The results are global aerodynamic characteristics at various material characteristics.

In this study, experiments and numerical analyses were carried out to examine the flexural and shear performance of a double composite wall (DCW) manufactured using a precast concrete (PC) method. One flexural specimen and three shear specimens were fabricated, and the effect of the bolts used for the assembly of the PC panels on the shear strength of the DCW was investigated. The failure mode, flexural and shear behavior, and composite behavior of the PC panel and cast-in-place (CIP) concrete were analyzed in detail, and the behavioral characteristics of the DCW were clearly identified by comparing the results of tests with those obtained from a non-linear flexural analysis and finite element analysis. Based on the test and analysis results, this study proposed a practical equation for reasonably estimating the shear strength of a DCW section composed of PC, CIP concrete, and bolts utilizing the current code equations.

Because of the huge lifting weight and complex structure of large-tonnage gantry crane and in order to effectively design and review it, this paper aims to carry out a research on its structural performance based on the method of theoretical calculation and finite element analysis. During the early period of design, the method of theoretical calculations is adopted, and after specific design it comes the finite element analysis, so as to get the results of analysis under a variety of operating conditions, which illustrates that the structural design and review of large-tonnage gantry crane based on theoretical calculations and finite element are feasible, and also verifies that the method of finite element is an effective way to find a real dangerous cross-section, thus providing the basis for the design and manufacture of the crane structure.

Shaking table test on soil-structure interaction system in harder site condition is presented briefly in this paper. Three-dimensional finite element analysis on shaking table test is carried out using ANSYS program. The surface-to-surface contact element is taken into consideration for the nonlinearity of the state of the interface of the soil-pile and an equivalent linear model is used for soil behavior. By comparing the results of the finite element analysis with the data from shaking table tests, the computational model is validated. Based on the calculation results, the paper gives the seismic responses under the consideration of soil-structure interaction in harder site condition, including acceleration response, contact analysis on soil pile interface and so on.
