The principles of construction and operation of the data collection and transmission system (DCTS) of an unmanned vessel are considered. A two-stage formulation of the problem of constructing a DCTS is proposed: the choice of methods and means of transmitting data from sensors to the data collection system, the choice of a method for transmitting data to the data collection system, the implementation of data transmission channels and, directly, the organization of data collection and storage for use in the autopilot device, implementation systems for receiving and synchronizing data and their placement in the storage system.

This paper describes the supercharged steam-generating cycle as currently employed in the U. S. Navy. In this cycle gas pressure in the boiler varies with load to a design peak of five atmospheres. The boiler receives its air for combustion from an air compressor which is powered by boiler exhaust gases expanding through a gas turbine. A historical background of the cycle and its components follows. Since a number of systems of the supercharged type have been and are being subjected to test at the Naval Boiler and Turbine Laboratory, the components of the systems, with particular emphasis on the boilers, are described. Advantages and disadvantages of the system are detailed and evaluated. The conclusion is that advantages are significant and that suspected problems or disadvantages do not need to exist if it is understood that the supercharged steam generator is regarded as not just another boiler, but rather as a precision piece of equipment. The test program at the Naval Boiler and Turbine Laboratory is defined as to scope and objectives. Test results are discussed and modifications required as a result of tests are described. Finally, there is a short review of shipboard operating experience to the present time. A major point developed is that the introduction of a new type boiler to the Navy's Fleet required an RDT&E effort, a full-scale test program, a new appreciation of the art of boiler design and manufacture, and a realistic and well-defined training program, plus the development of new ancillary equipment. The most important of the other equipments required is, of course, a compact and reliable supercharger set (air compressor and gas turbine) to provide air for combustion. The successful design of a compact supercharger set is the key to the use of the supercharged steam cycle.

Fabric selection is a critical component in the operation of a dust collection system venting a waste to energy boiler. This paper will discuss the factors to be evaluated when selecting the proper fabric to use in filtration systems venting waste and refuse derived fuel fired boilers. Consideration will be given to the type of scrubbing equipment, the type of cleaning system, the design parameters of the unit, and the gas stream chemistry. Operating experience from existing filtration systems will also be presented. Special emphasis will be made on equipment design, particulate capture and filter service life. A look at new developments in fabric filtration, including fabric blends, micro-denier filtration, and the use of pleated filter technology, will complete this overview.

An internal inspection of the expander after 16,000 hours of operation confirmed the successful operation of Ingersoll-Rand’s first two stage, high temperature, FCC expander. This paper discusses the construction and operation of the unit, designed for 1300°F (704°C) dirty gas environment and presents the inspection results of critical components.

Technip has experience in the LNG field obtained through the design and erection of two base load natural gas liquefaction plants in Algeria and the process licensing of 13 peak-shaving units mainly in North America.Through its operating experience of base-load plants and the research and development studies performed, Technip has improved the Tealarc liquefaction process with regard to the main criteria: efficiency, reliability, flexibility, simplicity and has also adopted the Tealarc process to the use of centrifugal compressors. In this case the Tealarc process is split into two different cycles, the first Tealarc cycle called "Precooling cycle" is used to partially condense the cryogenic fluid of the second Tealarc cycle called "Liquefaction cycle" which performs the condensation of the natural gas and the subcooling of LNG.This arrangement of the precooled Tealarc process allows the realisation of large capacity liquefaction trains while satisfying the limitation of the centrifugal compressorIn 1976 French and Italian experience in the LNG process sector were combined through a permanent joint-venture between Technip and Snam Progetti.

In the design of the proposed ETC scheme, all three major intelligent systems, such as AVC, AVI, and AVE have been included, where in each case some advanced technological features have been introduced. Moreover, inclusion of two stage security protocols with a robust encryption algorithm for data communication and the SMS based notification make the proposed system unique among all other existing methods. A prototype has been developed based on the proposed design and found to meet the desired performance specifications.
