The subject of this paper is the formulation of a specific algorithm for the kinematic analysis of spherical four-bar linkages via the inflection spherical cubic and spherical Thales ellipse by devoting particular attention to the crossed four-bar linkage (anti-parallelogram). Moreover, both the inflection and the elliptic cones, which represent the equivalent of the Bresse cylinders of the planar case in three-dimensions, are obtained by showing the particular properties of the spherical motion in terms of the curvature of a coupler curve and both the velocity and acceleration vector fields. Of special interest are also the cases in which the three acceleration poles coincide at one unique point or in two plus one, which depends on the intersections of two spherical curves of third and second degree.

Sustainable development was defined by the UN in 1987 as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, and this is a core concept in this paper. This work acknowledges the three dimensions of sustainability, i.e., economic, social, and environmental, but its focus is on this last one. A digital twin (DT) is frequently described as a physical entity with a virtual counterpart, and the data, connections between the two, implying the existence of connectors and blocks for efficient and effective data communication. This paper provides a meta systematic literature review (SLR) (i.e., an SLR of SLRs) regarding the sustainability requirements of DT-based systems. Numerous papers on the subject of DT were also selected because they cited the analyzed SLRs and were considered relevant to the purposes of this research. From the selection and analysis of 29 papers, several limitations and challenges were identified: the perceived benefits of DTs are not clearly understood; DTs across the product life cycle or the DT life cycle are not sufficiently studied; it is not clear how DTs can contribute to reducing costs or supporting decision-making; technical implementation of DTs must be improved and better integrated in the context of the IoT; the level of fidelity of DTs is not entirely evaluated in terms of their parameters, accuracy, and level of abstraction; and the ownership of data stored within DTs should be better understood. Furthermore, from our research, it was not possible to find a paper discussing DTs only in regard to environmental sustainability.

Embryology is today one of the most neglected of all medical fields. Only a handful of medical schools offer more than an introductory course on the subject, and most physicians' knowledge of embryological principles and mechanisms is rudimentary or, at best, limited to circumscribed areas of special interest. This is particularly unfortunate for pediatricians whose practices include such a significant percentage of congenital defects, which are really instances of normal embryologic processes gone awry.

The caliphate of Hisham ibn ‘Abd al-Malik (105–25/724–43) was undoubtedly one of the most important periods in early Islamic history, and as witness to the history of this era a source of paramount importance is certainly the Ta'rīkh al-rusul wa-l-mulūk of al-Ṭabarī. This in itself makes the publication of Volume xxv of the English translation of this work by Dr Khalid Yahya Blankinship, covering all but the last five years of Hishām's long reign, a matter of special interest to historians of the eastern lands of Islam. The reader will immediately notice that al-Ṭabarī devotes the bulk of his narrative for this period to events in Khurāsān and Transoxania, specifically, to the Umayyad campaigns there and hostilities with the Türgish khāqān Sü-lü Čur. In the course of this narrative one finds not only a wealth of information on military matters, but also much valuable data on the customs of the western Turks and life in Central Asia in general. The author's reasons for giving his work such a markedly eastern emphasis at this point are not unrelated to a desire, as Blankinship observes, to set forth the background for the 'Abbāsid revolution. But most of what al-Ṭabarī reports for this period is in fact not of immediate relevance to the advent of the 'Abbāsids, and indeed, the subject of 'Abbāsid propaganda activities hardly seems to be a prominent one in this volume.

Abstract This paper uses a kinematic mapping of spherical motion to derive an image curve which represents the coupler motion of a doubly folding spherical four bar linkage. The image curve of this linkage, the so called “kite” linkage, can be parameterized by rational functions. This parameterization is presented as well as formulas which allow the computation of its curvature and torsion at any point. These formulas provide a link between the global properties of the coupler motion as represented by the image curve itself and its instantaneous properties given by the curvature and torsion functions.

The subject of this chapter is the universities listed on the website of the Council of Higher Education in Turkey. This study aims to reveal the importance of digital advertising in these universities. In this study, firstly, the websites of these universities were examined. Secondly, the social networking and mobile applications listed in these websites were examined. The results of the current study states those Turkish universities' efforts are inadequate. This is clearly seen in mobile application and video sharing tendencies. Although most of them use social networking websites, the contents of their profiles are not attractive enough to draw the attention of young people. Therefore, special interest has to be given to content management on social networking profiles.

The current article is an integrative and analytical literature review on the concept and meaning of empathy in health and social care professionals. Empathy, i.e., the ability to understand the personal experience of the patient without bonding with them, constitutes an important communication skill for a health professional, one that includes three dimensions: the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral. It has been proven that health professionals with high levels of empathy operate more efficiently as to the fulfillment of their role in eliciting therapeutic change. The empathetic professional comprehends the needs of the health care users, as the latter feel safe to express the thoughts and problems that concern them. Although the importance of empathy is undeniable, a significantly high percentage of health professionals seem to find it difficult to adopt a model of empathetic communication in their everyday practice. Some of the factors that negatively influence the development of empathy are the high number of patients that professionals have to manage, the lack of adequate time, the focus on therapy within the existing academic culture, but also the lack of education in empathy. Developing empathetic skills should not only be the underlying objective in the teaching process of health and social care undergraduate students, but also the subject of the lifelong and continuous education of professionals.

Nearly twenty-two years have elapsed since the masterly essay of our President gave to the institute an opportunity for comprehensive examination of the British friendly society system. During the intervening period, phases of the subject have been occasionally before the Institute, but the period has been one of great activity amongst the friendly societies, and developments of interest to actuaries culminating, it may be suggested, in the co-operation of the State and the societies proposed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, have emerged. In the circumstances it has seemed to me that the Institute might again survey this wide field of provident effort with interest to its members and profit to the community.I propose accordingly to examine the more important groups of societies, paying particular regard in respect of the leading affiliated orders to the machinery by which it is sought to equip the constituent parts for the effective recognition of their duties; thence passing to some questions of special interest to ourselves. For the purpose of connected description it will be necessary to mention particular organizations, but I trust that nothing of what I have written may seem to depart from the excellent custom of neutrality which governs our debates. I venture indeed to say that so far from being unduly sensitive, all the societies which are striving for improvement (and I think this may be said of most of them) are receptive towards the stimulus of informed criticism.

Conditions in institutions for children or defectives may become peculiarly favourable to the propagation of hookworm disease. The subject of the present study is a long-standing infection with Ancylostoma duodenale in the Hospital for the Insane at Goodna, Queensland, the largest of the three hospitals for the insane maintained by the State Government. The investigation was of special interest because the institution is in a region in which the general population is free from hookworm disease, owing to low rainfall, and because the infection was with A. duodenale, while the predominating hookworm infection of Queensland is with Necator americanus.

Report of a conference jointly organised by the D.H.S.S. and the College of Occupational Therapists and held in London in October 1982. This account summarises the discussions upon three reports, on the subject of assessment and preparation for work which were published in 1982, and the contributions made by representatives of different disciplines and organisations. The views of occupational therapists with special interest in this matter are included.
