There is a dire need for the development of an integrated information model for organizing and managing material and manufacturing related information, required for any product realization. In this paper, such an information framework for product, process and material modeling has been proposed to support the product’s form, function and behavior, its physical and functional decompositions, its design requirements and design rationale, and its material and process needs. A detailed, real-life case study of the water jet intensifier design system has been presented to show how this proposed framework could support, capture and utilize all necessary information required for the selection of the intensifier’s high-pressure cylinder material. The framework will also be able to provide sufficient information to quantify the eco-compatibility of products.

Injection molding (IM) has been the most widely used manufacturing process for making plastic products mainly due to its high efficiency and manufacturability. The design of injection molding systems relies heavily on material data and related information. The availability of right material information at right time is of utmost importance for the design, operation and maintenance of the injection molding process. In this paper, a concise, and conceptual Injection Molding Material Information Model (IM-MIM) is proposed to support necessary computer-based modeling, calculation and management of material data. In this paper, we study different steps of the IM process from the information-modeling viewpoint to identify the role and influence of material properties and behaviors in decision-making process. We further developed a four-level IM-MIM model framework, which provides a foundation for different material-related activities or analyses. Several key components in the IM-MIM, which consists of the material data, physical and behavioral properties, thermodynamic and transport properties, and other material information like rheological and mechanical properties, are presented in detail.

AbstractThe study of brain communication based on fMRI data is often limited because such measurements are a mixture of session-to-session variability with subject- and condition-related information. Disentangling these contributions is crucial for real-life applications, in particular when only a few recording sessions are available. The present study aims to define a reliable standard for the extraction of multiple signatures from fMRI data, while verifying that they do not mix information about the different modalities. In particular, condition-specific signature should not be contaminated by subject-related information. Practically, signatures correspond to subnetworks of directed interactions between brain regions (typically 100 covering the whole brain) supporting the subject and condition identification for single fMRI sessions. The key for robust prediction is using effective connectivity instead of functional connectivity. Our method demonstrates excellent generalization capabilities for subject identification in two datasets, using only a few sessions per subject as reference. Using another dataset with resting state and movie viewing, we show that the two signatures related to subjects and tasks correspond to distinct subnetworks, which are thus topologically orthogonal. Our results set solid foundations for applications tailored to individual subjects, such as clinical diagnostic.

Kata kunci: arsitektur perilaku, kontemporer, studi kasus; studi perilaku, Yin ABSTRACTCase studies are empirical studies that investigate contemporary phenomena in real life contexts. Initially the case study research method was often used in the social science field. But along with the development of science, case study methods began to be used in other fields. The case study research method is the right strategy to use in research that uses the main research questions of “how” or “why”, it takes a little time to control the events being studied, and the focus of research is contemporary phenomena. In the case study method, researchers focus on the design and implementation of research. The purpose of this paper is to examine the case study research method formulated by Robert K. Yin and then look at its application in research in architecture and behavior. In research in architecture and behavior, the Yin case study method can be applied even though partially and can be combined with other methods. Qualitative research with observed cases include single or multi-case cases whose observations focus on human behavior and environmental settings. Keywords: behavioral architecture, contemporary, case study, behavioral studies, Yin

Interest in offering Entrepreneurship Education (EE) to all kinds of university students is increasing. Therefore, universities are increasing the number of entrepreneurship courses intended for students from different fields of study and with different education levels. Through a single case study of the Contamination Lab of Turin (CLabTo), we suggest how EE may be taught to all kinds of university students. We have combined design methods with EE to create a practical-oriented entrepreneurship course which allows students to work in transdisciplinary teams through a learning-by-doing approach on real-life projects. Professors from different departments have been included to create a multidisciplinary environment. We have drawn on programme assessment data, including pre- and post-surveys. Overall, we have found a positive effect of the programme on the students’ entrepreneurial skills. However, when the data was broken down according to the students’ fields of study and education levels, mixed results emerged.

Abstract This article investigates the suitability of traditional and participatory planning approaches in managing the process of spatial development of existing housing estates, based on the case study of Warsaw’s Ursynów Północny district. The basic assumption of the article is that due to lack of government schemes targeted at the restructuring of large housing estates, it is the business environment that drives spatial transformations and through that shapes the development of participation. Consequently the article focuses on the reciprocal relationships between spatial transformations and participatory practices. Analysis of Ursynów Północny against the background of other estates indicates that it presents more endangered qualities than issues to be tackled. Therefore the article focuses on the potential of the housing estate and good practices which can be tracked throughout its lifetime. The paper focuses furthermore on real-life processes, addressing the issue of privatisation, development pressure, formal planning procedures and participatory budgeting. In the conclusion it attempts to interpret the existing spatial structure of the estate as a potential framework for a participatory approach.

ABSTRACT This case originates from a real-life business situation and illustrates the application of impairment tests in accordance with IFRS and U.S. GAAP. In the first part of the case study, students examine conceptual questions of impairment tests under IFRS and U.S. GAAP with respect to applicable accounting standards, definitions, value concepts, and frequency of application. In addition, the case encourages students to discuss the impairment regime from an economic point of view. The second part of the instructional resource continues to provide instructors with the flexibility of applying U.S. GAAP and/or IFRS when students are asked to test a long-lived asset for impairment and, if necessary, allocate any potential impairment. This latter part demonstrates that impairment tests require professional judgment that students are to exercise in the case.
