Abstract In order to reveal the pattern of oil–water movement during water flooding development in ultra-low permeability reservoir, flow units division and multiple methods such as rate-controlled mercury injection, nuclear magnetic resonance, water flooding in real sandstone model, permeability test are used to perform quantitative characterization of ultra-low permeability reservoir from two aspects, geological property and coupling micro-mechanism. Radius size and number-percentage of mainstream throats and moveable fluid saturation for different clusters of flow units have been characterized. Displacement types for different clusters of flow units and remaining oil distribution types have been specified. This provides a geological evidence to develop and adjust the water injection development plan. In this paper, the number-percentage of mainstream throats has been first proposed, which is a critical parameter to evaluate the difficulty of the predominant channel development process during water injection development. The quantitative characterization of the dominant seepage channel is realized.

Chemical modification of graphene oxide (GO) by grafting hydrophobic chains on the surface has drawn much attention nowadays in the academic world, and it was suggested that modified GO could lead to new functionalized materials with specific structure and different properties. In this paper, modified GO (M-GO) were synthesized by chemically grafting alkylamines with varying chain lengths on the graphene oxide surface. Successful grafting of alkylamines was confirmed using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and Raman spectroscopy measurements. In addition, we investigated the properties of M-GO as nanodrag reducer in low permeability reservoir water flooding. Water contact angle (CA) measurements revealed that the hydrophobic nature of GO depended on the chain length of the grafted alkylamines. And flooding experiments showed that the hexadecylamine- and octadecylamine-modified GO had an ability to reduce water injection pressure and improve water-phase permeability of the low permeability reservoirs during water flooding. So the M-GO would have potential applications in oilfield exploitation.

Physical simulation experiments were made to research on the stress sensitivity on physical property of low permeability reservoir rocks. The experimental results shown that effective pressure had good exponential relationship with reservoir permeability. Combining with materaial balance method, reservoir engineering and rational deducation was made to reserach on water-flooding timing of low permeability reservoir development. Several production targets were obtained by these method, such as formation pressure, water and oil production, water cut and so on. The results shown that advanced water-flooding was very important in low permeability reservoir development to reduce the bad impact of stress sensitivity on formation permeability and maintain formation pressure.

Taking the example of the fourth member of the Lower Cretaceous Quantou formation reservoirs in fault block Sheng554 of Sanzhao sag, this article discusses the methodology of flow units in extra-low permeability reservoirs. The research on flow units in such reservoirs can be divided into two ranks, one is to determine the distribution of seepage barriers and inner connected sands, the other is to analyze the differentia of fluid flow in the inner connected sands so as to subdivide the flow units. The result shows that the pelitic barriers are rather developed in fault block Sheng554. Through the analysis of differentia of fluid flow, according to the value of flow zone index (FZI), the inner connected sands can be classified into three types of flow units, among which type A with FZI value greater than 1.0 has better permeable property and higher intensity of water injection, and the ability of permeability and water injection of type B with FZI value between 0.5 and 1.0 takes the second place, and type C is the worst flow unit with the worst permeable property and intensity of water injection with FZI value less than 0.5. Among the three types of flow units, type A poorly develops, while type B and type C develops well. The research on flow units can provide reliable geologic bases for forecasting the distribution of remaining oil in extra-low permeability reservoirs and for developing remaining oil in the study area.

Channeling flow frequently occurs during the high pressure water injection of low permeability reservoir. The injection process is complex and covers so many parameters of which the contribution to channeling flow is necessarily to be studied. In this paper, numerical simulation is combined with sensitivity analysis method to calculate the significance of the weight of parameters to the channeling flow. First the values of different parameters are produced by using Latin hypercube method; second, by using these parameters, finite element model have been established and simulated, and the quantity of channeling flow has been calculated; then Spearman rank relation is applied to measure the relation of parameters and channeling flow. The results states that, in 10 years continuous injection, the well spacing and injection pressure have significant impact on the channeling flow. This states that during the application of high pressure water injection, the pressure and well spacing should be controlled especially.
