A very common configuration of V-belt variators for motorcycles considers the correction of the belt tensioning depending on the resistant torque by means of suitable helical-shaped tracks allowing the driven half-pulleys to close/open. The theoretical model for belt-pulley coupling is rather complex for this configuration, where one half-pulley may run in advance and the other one behind with respect to the belt, and requires the repeated numerical solution of a strongly nonlinear differential system by a sort of shooting technique, until all the operating conditions are fulfilled (angular contact extent, torque, and axial force). After solving the full equations, the present study develops closed-form approximations, which are characterized by an excellent correspondence with the numerical plots, and suggests a simple and practical formulary for the axial thrust as a function of the torque and of the tension level. Then, the results of a theoretical–experimental comparison are also reported, and they indicate a fine agreement between the model and the real operation.

The goal of the research work is to examine the improvement of numerical solution of VdP equation. The well-known VdP equation is governed by the second order nonlinear ODE and then solved numerically using the classical Runge-Kutta (RK) method, RK-Fehlberg method of order five, Verner method of order eight and Cash-Karp method of order six with nonlinear shooting technique. In this work, numerical simulations have been carried out using NVdP code which is written in MATHEMATICA. Also, the accuracy and efficiency of the solution of VdP equation using different RK methods with nonlinear shooting technique has been investigated. For analysis of accuracy, the approximate exact solution obtained by perturbation method is used for the comparison. It is observed that all the different RK methods give accurate result of the VdP equation. But the classical RK method shows slightly better performance than the other single step techniques. The original version of "the theory of economy management", developed in the 1920s by Russian economists-emigrants who called themselves "Eurasians" (N. Trubetskoy, P. Savitskiy, etc.) is analyzed in the article. They considered this theory to be the basis of the original Russia's way of economic development. The Eurasian theory of economy management focuses on two sides of enterprise activity: managerial as well as social and moral. The Eurasians accepted the Soviet economy with the large share of state regulation as the initial step of development. On the other hand they paid much attention to the private sector activity. Eurasians developed a theoretical model of the mixed economy which can be attributed as the Russian economic school.

The main objective of this paper is to focus on a numerical study of viscous dissipation effect on the steady state flow of MHD Williamson nanofluid. A mathematical modeled which resembles the physical flow problem has been developed. By using an appropriate transformation, we converted the system of dimensional PDEs (nonlinear) into coupled dimensionless ODEs. The numerical solution of these modeled ordinary differential equations (ODEs) is achieved by utilizing shooting technique together with Adams-Bashforth Moulton method of order four. Finally, the results of discussed for different parameters through graphs and tables.

In this study, the development and comparative characterization of different composite sorbents for thermal energy storage applications is reported. Two different applications were targeted, namely, low-temperature space heating (SH) and domestic hot water (DHW) provision. From a literature analysis, the most promising hygroscopic salts were selected for these conditions, being LiCl for SH and LiBr for DHW. Furthermore, two mesoporous silica gel matrixes and a macroporous vermiculite were acquired to prepare the composites. A complete characterization was performed by investigating the porous structure of the composites before and after impregnation, through N2 physisorption, as well as checking the phase composition of the composites at different temperatures through X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis. Furthermore, sorption equilibrium curves were measured in water vapor atmosphere to evaluate the adsorption capacity of the samples and a detailed calorimetric analysis was carried out to evaluate the reaction evolution under real operating conditions as well as the sorption heat of each sample. The results demonstrated a slower reaction kinetic in the vermiculite-based composites, due to the larger size of salt grains embedded in the pores, while promising volumetric storage densities of 0.7 GJ/m3 and 0.4 GJ/m3 in silica gel-based composites were achieved for SH and DHW applications, respectively.

The two most prominent developments in criminal justice in the last twenty to thirty years are the rise of restorative justice and the recognition and improvement of the position of the victim. The first part of the paper discusses a theoretical model for victims within restorative justice that the researchers at the InterVICT research institute authors of this paper) are developing at this moment. This model incorporates current knowledge from social psychology and studies surrounding traumatic stress and provides a number of hypotheses that will be subsequently evaluated in practice with participants in restorative justice procedures. On the other hand, international legal protocols for restorative justice also lack a consistent victim-oriented perspective. To this end the European Forum for Victim Services has recently published a statement concerning the position of the victim within mediation. The second part of the paper addresses the central issues in this statement. Taken together the paper moves beyond criticism of restorative justice, as it hopes to redirect theory and implementation of restorative justice toward a stronger victim-orientation.

Abstract This paper presents a technique for synthesizing four-bar linkages to produce a specified resisting force or torque. The resisting energy is provided by a weight acting on the other grounded link. The linkage serves as a nonlinear mechanical advantage function generator. Force and velocity synthesis methods have been extensively discussed in the literature. The general approach, however, has been to assume that the specified force or velocity occurs at a prescribed position. This results in the loss of design parameters that are being used unnecessarily to control position. In this application, force input to the linkage is specified as a function of only the input link position and the magnitude and direction of the weight force. Mechanical advantage synthesis can be achieved at as many as seven precision points. The method presented in this paper allows free selection of two parameters and viewing one infinity of solutions.


After having briefly but exhaustively recalled the main lines of Freudian psychoanalytic thought, we have discussed a possible psychoanalytic theoretical model for human symbolic function mainly centred on the action of a set of primary psychic mechanisms rejoined around the negative, in its widest sense according to the works of André Green. A chief aspect of this pattern has turned out to be an underlying, irreducible dialecticity that reflects on the one hand, the typical feature of human symbolic function, and, on the other hand, the main outcome of the unavoidable presence of a basic dichotomy formalized the so-called phallic logic, that is, that primordial, ancestral and irreducible logical nucleus inevitably present in the deepest meanders of human psyche as an inborn structure phylogenetically preformed and ontogenetically re-established during the psychic evolution of any human being.

The salient characteristic of a coalition network is that two networks that may have evolved independently are brought together for a common operation. Dynamic communities of interests need to be established among the two networks, and establishing such communities requiring federating the assets and resources available in the disparate networks that make up the coalition. Each coalition partner may have guidelines restricting the operating conditions for working with other partners, and sharing information with the other partners. This chapter presents a life-cycle for policy management in the context of coalition operations which can be used to federate different information assets in a coalition, and allow improved interoperability among different constituents of the network.
