The stability of a uniform pin-ended bar having equal principal stiffnesses, subjected to combined torsion and compression, is studied via the direct method of Liapunov for cases in which the torque vector is circulatory; i.e., the torque vector does not bisect the angle between the undeformed and deformed axes of the bar. Liapunov functionals are presented and applied to both the case of a viscous environment and the case of a viscoelastic environment. Several simple stability and instability criteria are obtained in terms of the system parameters.

A survey of the selected published criteria - expressed by the properties of the system matrices - for the stability and instability of linear mechanical systems subjected to potential and circulatory forces is presented. In particular, recent generalizations of the well-known Merkin instability theorem are reported. Several simple numerical examples are used to illustrate the usefulness of the presented criteria and also to compare them.

Since 2010 Middle East have many events or what they call "Arab spring events" which it result of overthrow governments and the rise of new political groups, all of this elements was resulting of many international and regional activities and making new regional and international axles, as well as the intersections of the different regional interests, therefore this research will try to study the stability and instability in the region as an independent variable not according to the neorealism or neoliberalism theories, but according to the constructivism theory which it base their assumptions on:  "In the international relations the non-physical structures of international interactions are determined by the identities of the players, which in turn determine the interests that determine the behavior of international players." So the research questions are: 1-What is the identity policy and haw affect in international relations? 2-How the social construct affect in international relations? 3-How the elite's identities for the main actors in the Middle East affect in the regional axles?

AbstractFor both non-redundant and redundant systems, the inverse kinematics (IK) calculation is a fundamental step in the control algorithm of fully actuated serial manipulators. The tool-center-point (TCP) position is given and the joint coordinates are determined by the IK. Depending on the task, robotic manipulators can be kinematically redundant. That is when the desired task possesses lower dimensions than the degrees-of-freedom of a redundant manipulator. The IK calculation can be implemented numerically in several alternative ways not only in case of the redundant but also in the non-redundant case. We study the stability properties and the feasibility of a tracking error feedback and a direct tracking error elimination approach of the numerical implementation of IK calculation both on velocity and acceleration levels. The feedback approach expresses the joint position increment stepwise based on the local velocity or acceleration of the desired TCP trajectory and linear feedback terms. In the direct error elimination concept, the increment of the joint position is directly given by the approximate error between the desired and the realized TCP position, by assuming constant TCP velocity or acceleration. We investigate the possibility of the implementation of the direct method on acceleration level. The investigated IK methods are unified in a framework that utilizes the idea of the auxiliary input. Our closed form results and numerical case study examples show the stability properties, benefits and disadvantages of the assessed IK implementations.

Anti-synchronization of two different chaotic systems is investigated. On the basis of Lyapunov theory, adaptive control scheme is proposed when system parameters are unknown, sufficient conditions for the stability of the error dynamics are derived, where the controllers are designed using the sum of the state variables in chaotic systems. Numerical simulations are performed for the Chen and Lu systems to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.

ABSTRACT Complex gene regulatory circuits exhibit emergent properties that are difficult to predict from the behavior of the components. One such property is the stability of regulatory states. Here we analyze the stability of the lysogenic state of phage λ. In this state, the virus maintains a stable association with the host, and the lytic functions of the virus are repressed by the viral CI repressor. This state readily switches to the lytic pathway when the host SOS system is induced. A low level of SOS-dependent switching occurs without an overt stimulus. We found that the intrinsic rate of switching to the lytic pathway, measured in a host lacking the SOS response, was almost undetectably low, probably less than 10−8/generation. We surmise that this low rate has not been selected directly during evolution but results from optimizing the rate of switching in a wild-type host over the natural range of SOS-inducing conditions. We also analyzed a mutant, λprm240, in which the promoter controlling CI expression was weakened, rendering lysogens unstable. Strikingly, the intrinsic stability of λprm240 lysogens depended markedly on the growth conditions; lysogens grown in minimal medium were nearly stable but switched at high rates when grown in rich medium. These effects on stability likely reflect corresponding effects on the strength of the prm240 promoter, measured in an uncoupled assay system. Several derivatives of λprm240 with altered stabilities were characterized. This mutant and its derivatives afford a model system for further analysis of stability.
