Heritage management in Sweden has undergone a substantial transformation in recent decades. The process of monitoring and managing heritage information has become increasingly digital, relying on interconnected systems to monitor registered archaeological remains to manage investigations and contract archaeology excavations. This also has to work together with the digital systems of the County Administrative Boards that administer all permissions for excavations. Current developments deal with archiving and dissemination of reports, and documentation from fieldwork. Documentation of archaeological excavations has predominantly been digital for the past 20 years, which brings both possibilities and challenges in making sure the information will adhere to the FAIR Principles. This article outlines some of these developments and exemplifies the possibilities of reusing legacy data through the Urdar project.

Abstract: Regarding the society evolution dominated by a high-level technology, we consider this article a constructive approach. The aim of the paper is to highlight a few activities/places/spots in which competences of humans/soldiers interfere with different elements of the artificial intelligence. We deem that the technological progress in the past few years has been impressive. Nowadays, thousands of activities that were mostly or exclusively executed by people can be done faster and often with greater precision using digital systems. In this instance and considering the achievement of functional compatibility between Romanian Army and forces from NATO as being a priority, the development of the technology based on artificial intelligence is vital within the defense resource management.

Abstract This article explores the possibility that public libraries can be repositories for digital community archives. The overarching goal is to establish a case for public libraries’ developing digital community archives that are participatory and which emphasize born-digital items rather than digitized physical items. This discussion follows my own research and experience in this area to include personal information management, social media and the personal archive, and the accidental community archive, and demonstrates that public libraries can focus on communities’ current events and people rather than solely on those from the past.

The aim of the article is to make clear whether and in that case why archaeology is important. Often this is seen as a self-evident fact which needs no motivation. My point of departure is a concrete example, namely, the medieval church of Mårup in Denmark which will soon fall into the sea: Why is it so crucial to save or document this church and many other traces of the past? Isn't the so-called cultural heritage condemned to destruction and oblivion? Rhetorical catchwords, cultural values, justifications and explanations within cultural heritage management, archaeology, history and social anthropology are presented and critically discussed together with indirect motivations borrowed from the literature about the abuse of the past.

The cultural heritage is not simply given by history; its content is also a matter for decision in the present. This calls for a dialogue between the heritage management and different groups in society. It is also necessary to formulate a vision of how material remains from the past can enrich the life of the citizen in general. One way to ensure that the cultural heritage touches people is to integrate it into new contexts. The realisation of these points requires a new amiquarian attitude towards the general public.

Civilization of a city can be seen from archaeological remains. Kendari city is known as a city whose society is religious. The purpose of this paper is to know the history of the entry of Islam in Kendari and archaeological remains of the evidence of the entry of Islam in Kendari. The method used is literature study, interview and survey. Islam in Kendari was brought by Islamic religious teachers, Muslim traders and ulama, this is known from the existence of tombs of religious figures o f Islam in the past Kendari.  ABSTRAKPeradaban suatu kota dapat dilihat dari tinggalan-tinggalan arkeologi. Kota Kendari dikenal sebagai kota yang masyarakatnya religius. Tujuan penulisan ini adalah untuk mengetahui sejarah masuknya Islam di Kendari dan tinggalan-tinggalan arkeologi yang menjadi bukti masuknya Islam di Kendari. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi pustaka, wawancara dan survei. Islam di Kendari dibawa oleh guru agama Islam, pedagang muslim dan ulama, hal ini diketahui dari keberadaan makam tokoh-tokoh agama Islam Kendari pada masa lalu.

The main Buddha hall of Hoeamsa 檜巖寺, the monastery that received heavy royal patronages from the late Koryŏ to the early Chosŏn period, was a building known as Pogwangjŏn 普光殿 built in the 14th century. Unfortunately, little is known about the Buddhist statues that had been enshrined in Pogwangjŏn because the monastery fell into ruins two centuries later. Based on comprehensive analyses of historical records and archaeological excavations of the monastery site, this paper attempts to infer the iconography, size, shape, number, and religious meanings of these lost Buddhist statues. The Records of the Restoration of Hoeamsa on Mount Ch’ŏnbo (Ch’ŏnbosan hoeamsa sujogi 天寶山檜巖寺修造記) and archaeological remains suggest that three Buddha status as tall as fifteen ch’ŏk 尺, which would be 4.39-4.6m in modern measurement were enshrined in the monastery’s main hall. Based on the teaching and life of the monk Naong Hyegŭn 懶翁惠勤 (1320-1376) who built the hall and the iconography of embroidered Buddhist hanging scrolls donated by the Queen Wŏn’gŏyng 元敬 (1365-1420), we can infer that these three statues comprised either Amitābha-Śākyamuni-Bhaiṣajyaguru Buddhas, or Amitābha-Vairocana-Bhaiṣajyaguru Buddhas, perhaps the latter in higher chances. These threes Buddhas, as this paper suggests, were designed to embody the trikāya 三身 and the triratna 三寶 along the north-south and the east-west axes of the monastery layout.

The selective pressures and processes of cultural heritage management effectively disinherit some interest groups. Where this occurs in the context of postcolonial or nationalist conflict, the material archaeological record may be referenced to support or reject particular views. The disciplinary assumptions behind the archaeological evidence so produced are not usually contested in judicial contexts. A review of archaeology’s theoretical foundations suggests that this naivety itself may be problematic. A descriptive culture history approach dominated archaeology over the first half of the twentieth century with a strong political appeal to nationalist politics. Subsequently archaeology became concerned with processual explanation and the scientific identification of universal laws of culture, consistent with postwar technological optimism and conformity. A postprocessual archaeology movement from the 1970s has promoted relativism and challenged the singular authority of scientific explanation. Archaeologists caught within this debate disagree over the use of the archaeological record in situations of political conflict. Furthermore, the use of archaeology in the sectarian debate over the Ayodhya birthplace of Rama suggests that the material record of the past can become highly politicized and seemingly irresolvable. Archaeological research is also subject to other blatant and subtle political pressures throughout the world, affecting the nature and interpretation of the record. A system that privileges archaeological information values may be irrelevant also to communities who value and manage their ancestral heritage for customary purposes. Collectively this review of theory and applied knowledge suggests that it is unrealistic to expect that archaeology can authoritatively resolve strident claims and debates about the past. Instead, an important contemporary contribution of archaeology may be its potential to document cultural and historical contradictions and inclusions for the consideration of contemporary groups in conflict.
