Does coping affect (the relationship between) job insecurity, well-being and job satisfaction? Does coping affect (the relationship between) job insecurity, well-being and job satisfaction? Katrien Bohets & Hans De Witte, Gedrag & Organisatie, Volume 19, Juni 2006, nr. 2, pp. 113. The consequences of both quantitative and qualitative job insecurity on well-being and job satisfaction are analysed. Quantitative job insecurity refers to the continuity of the actual job, whereas qualitative job insecurity refers to the continuity of valued job characteristics. The association of both kinds of insecurity with emotion-focused coping (avoidance) is studied, as well as the moderating role of problem-focused coping in the relation between job insecurity, satisfaction and well-being. Data of 568 employees from 23 companies are used to test the hypotheses. The results show that both forms of job insecurity are associated with a decrease in well-being and job satisfaction, as expected. Job insecurity is also associated with an increase in avoidance behaviours (emotion-focused coping) and with a decrease in problem-focused coping behaviours. Problem-focused coping (and avoidance) do not moderate the relationship between job insecurity, satisfaction and well-being.

The results of a phycofloristic study on three springs in the Huasteca Potosina region are presented; 67 species are reported. Floristic similarities and differences among the springsare analized, as well as the relationship between species and environmental factors. Microhabitas were defined in the springs as well as the principal algal asociations that characterize them. Light intensity and current velocity are the most important factors affecting the predominant growth forms present in this type of habitat.

This study examined the mediating role of perceived job characteristics in the relationship between core self-evaluations (CSEs) and job satisfaction. Data were collected from two independent samples of highly skilled workers in Argentina (190 scholars and 116 managers). The results from the structural equation modeling analysis revealed that perceived job characteristics partly mediated the relationship between CSEs and job satisfaction in both samples (32% in sample 1 and 65% in sample 2), suggesting that those individuals with higher CSEs tended to perceive their jobs as more resourceful (i.e., more rewarding, secure, and supportive), which increased their levels of job satisfaction. ese findings were consistent with those reported in North-American and European organizational settings, which provided further support to the universality and cross-cultural generalizability of the CSE construct.

Background: Job satisfaction is a major factor in nurse retention and the delivery of high quality care. Hence, aim of this study was to find out the factors affecting job satisfaction among nurses working in the teaching hospital, Chitwan. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional research design was used and a total 135 nurses who were working for at least 3 months in the Chitwan Medical Teaching Hospital were taken as study sample. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the desired sample. Pre-tested structured self-administered questionniare with job satisfaction scale consisting eight domains was used to collect the data. Obtained data were entered into SPSS version 20.0 for window and analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (chi-square test). Results: The findings of the study revealed that more than half (57.85%) of the nurses were satisfied with their job. Nurses’ job satisfaction was higher on organization and administration policies (4.18±0.04) and least on salary and benefits (3.01±0.19) they were receiving from the institution. The significance influencing factors of job satisfaction were professional qualification (p=0.04), total work experience in nursing (p=0.004), working ward/unit (p=0.014), designation (p=0.007), number of patient assigned in general ward (p=<0.001) and leadership style in the ward (p=<0.001). Conclusions: Considerable percentage of nurses are not satisfied with their job. Hence hospital management and professional associations need to address the identified factors to enhance the job satisfaction among nurses working in a teaching hospital.

Previous research has found that a positive relationship exists between favourable perception of a firm and employees’ job satisfaction: the more positively an organization is perceived, the happier are its workers. However, the current literature has overlooked the consequences of a negative corporate image or disapproval of organizations. Building on the concept of organizational identification and the social identity literature, we fill in this gap and counterintuitively argue that employees are more likely to identify and align with their organizations when it faces illegitimate criticism. We test our hypotheses on a large-scale survey collected in France and find that perception of disapproval of an organization has indeed an adverse effect on job satisfaction. However, if employees perceive criticism as illegitimate, job satisfaction is positively impacted. This study suggests the existence of micro-level social identity reactions in case of unjustified disapprobation: employees stick together and hold the line against criticism, strengthening the collective identity and adding positive emotional value to the work experience.

This paper describes the influence of job characteristics, rewards, relations with superiors, relations with co-workers, and fulfillment of higher order needs, as job facets, on the job satisfaction of workers in Indonesian construction companies. A questionnaire survey was conducted in Jakarta (the capital city) and Bandung (one of Indonesia's major cities). The results revealed that workers in different occupational groups and managerial positions perceive differently the conditions of job facets and that there are different levels of job satisfaction among different categories of workers. This research indicates that workers care about the quality of their work and company's performance and that these aspects affect significantly their job satisfaction. Reward is also revealed to have an important influence on workers’ job satisfaction.

This study attempts to corroborate the impact of labour force reduction on financial performance of manufacturing companies in a developing country. Despite the on-going use of labour force reduction, literature and research on this approach continues to yield mixed results. This desktop research was therefore conducted with the aim of determining the impact of employing labour force reduction initiatives on financial performance of manufacturing companies. The study reviews the results and findings of empirical and qualitative literature on labour force reduction by previous scholars for a period of 6 years ranging from 2012 to 2017. The phenomenon of labour force reduction has facilitated the research and studies on the area in the past six years, with researchers reaching different conclusions on the practise’s effect on organisations. This has prompted the researchers of this study to critically study labour force reduction methods, factors affecting their success, employees’ reaction to the strategy, the practise effect on productivity and the relationship between labour force reduction and organisation performance.

Wetlands, tidal flats, seaweed beds, and coral reefs are valuable not only as habitats for many species, but also as places where people interact with the sea. Unfortunately, these areas have declined in recent years, so environmental improvement projects to conserve and restore them are being carried out across the world. In this study, we propose a method for quantifying ecosystem services, that is, useful for the proper maintenance and management of artificial tidal flats, a type of environmental improvement project. With this method, a conceptual model of the relationship between each service and related environmental factors in natural and social systems was created, and the relationships between services and environmental factors were clarified. The state of the environmental factors affecting each service was quantified, and the state of those factors was reflected in the evaluation value of the service. As a result, the method can identify which environmental factors need to be improved and if the goal is to increase the value of the targeted tidal flat. The method demonstrates an effective approach in environmental conservation for the restoration and preservation of coastal areas.
