The optimal approach to learning a target culture is to experience it in its real-life context through interaction. The new 3D virtual world platform under consideration, Blue Mars Lite, enables users to be immersed in existing Google Maps Street View panorama, globally. Google Maps with Street View contains a massive collection of 360-degree street-level images of the most popular places worldwide. The authors explore the possibility of integrating these global panoramas, in which multiple users can explore, discuss, and role-play, into the classroom. The goal of this chapter is to shed new light on merging Google Street View with the 3D virtual world for cultural learning purposes. This approach shows itself to be a promising teaching method that can help EFL learners to develop positive attitudes toward the target culture and cultural learning in this new cultural setting.

Background The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly disrupted the food retail environment. However, its impact on fresh fruit and vegetable vendors remains unclear; these are often smaller, more community centered, and may lack the financial infrastructure to withstand supply and demand changes induced by such crises. Objective This study documents the methodology used to assess fresh fruit and vegetable vendor closures in New York City (NYC) following the start of the COVID-19 pandemic by using Google Street View, the new Apple Look Around database, and in-person checks. Methods In total, 6 NYC neighborhoods (in Manhattan and Brooklyn) were selected for analysis; these included two socioeconomically advantaged neighborhoods (Upper East Side, Park Slope), two socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods (East Harlem, Brownsville), and two Chinese ethnic neighborhoods (Chinatown, Sunset Park). For each neighborhood, Google Street View was used to virtually walk down each street and identify vendors (stores, storefronts, street vendors, or wholesalers) that were open and active in 2019 (ie, both produce and vendor personnel were present at a location). Past vendor surveillance (when available) was used to guide these virtual walks. Each identified vendor was geotagged as a Google Maps pinpoint that research assistants then physically visited. Using the “notes” feature of Google Maps as a data collection tool, notes were made on which of three categories best described each vendor: (1) open, (2) open with a more limited setup (eg, certain sections of the vendor unit that were open and active in 2019 were missing or closed during in-person checks), or (3) closed/absent. Results Of the 135 open vendors identified in 2019 imagery data, 35% (n=47) were absent/closed and 10% (n=13) were open with more limited setups following the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. When comparing boroughs, 35% (28/80) of vendors in Manhattan were absent/closed, as were 35% (19/55) of vendors in Brooklyn. Although Google Street View was able to provide 2019 street view imagery data for most neighborhoods, Apple Look Around was required for 2019 imagery data for some areas of Park Slope. Past surveillance data helped to identify 3 additional established vendors in Chinatown that had been missed in street view imagery. The Google Maps “notes” feature was used by multiple research assistants simultaneously to rapidly collect observational data on mobile devices. Conclusions The methodology employed enabled the identification of closures in the fresh fruit and vegetable retail environment and can be used to assess closures in other contexts. The use of past baseline surveillance data to aid vendor identification was valuable for identifying vendors that may have been absent or visually obstructed in the street view imagery data. Data collection using Google Maps likewise has the potential to enhance the efficiency of fieldwork in future studies.

O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar um projeto de aprendizagem e as atividades realizadas a partir dos questionamentos das crianças e a uma reflexão sobre como as Tecnologias Digitais podem contribuir para a pesquisa e construção do conhecimento no contexto da Educação Infantil. O projeto foi realizado com uma turma de faixa etária três de uma escola pública de Educação Infantil, de um município do interior do Rio Grande do Sul. A pesquisa foi de natureza aplicada, configurando-se como Pesquisa Exploratória e, enquanto procedimentos técnicos classificada como o Estudo de Caso. Para a realização das atividades foram utilizadas as tecnologias Google Maps e Google Street View. Assim, com base nas reflexões teóricas foi possível repensar a prática pedagógica, junto a uma turma de Educação Infantil, bem como o uso das tecnologias digitais no contexto escolar.

Abstrak – Perkembangan teknologi yang semakin hari semakin pesat, memunculkan banyak inovasi baru dari teknologi. Salah satu inovasi yang kita jumpai saat ini adalah Virtual tour misalnya penyampaian informasi tentang lokasi dari suatu daerah atau tempat dengan Virtual tour. Akan tetapi penggunaan aplikasi virtual tour sebagai media penyampaian informasi untuk memperkenalkan lokasi–lokasi di Kota Manado belum ada, sehingga dibuatlah sebuah media Implementasi Virtual Tour Sebagai Media Infomasi Daerah (Studi Kasus : Kota Manado). Tujuan aplikasi ini untuk mengimplementasikan virtual tour sebagai media informasi untuk memperkenalkan lokasi yang bisa di kunjungi di Kota Manado dimana informasi ini ditampilkan secara visual dari suatu lokasi dengan panorama 360o sehingga pengguna dapat mengetahui keadaan sekitar. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) yang merupakan metode rancang bangun perangkat lunak multimedia yang menekankan pada 6 tahap pengembangan multimedia. Terdapat tiga puluh satu lokasi di Kota Manado yang digunakan dalam pembuatan apliaksi Virtual tour ini. Pada penelitian ini gambar panorama 3600 akan dipublish kedalam website Dinas Pariwisata dan Kebudayaan Kota Manado dan juga diintegrasikan ke Google Maps dan Google Street View sehingga pengguna dapat melihat lokasi-lokasi tersebut kapan dan dimana saja dengan menggunakan bantuan internet.

La Georreferenciación es una técnica de gran utilidad para usuarios de portales inmobiliarios, que facilita el proceso de encontrar bienes inmuebles de acuerdo a criterios o necesidades de búsqueda. El principal objetivo de esta investigación, es detallar un portal inmobiliario de tipo marketplace, donde los usuarios puedan realizar consultas de propiedades a través de mapas, utilizando la API de Google Maps y la API de Google Street View. La arquitectura es aplicada e implementada en el Portal Vive Cartagena, un proyecto financiado por Colciencias en la convocatoria para conformar un banco de programas estratégicos y proyectos de investigación, desarrollo tecnológico e Innovación. Palabras claves: Mercado inmobiliario, software como servicio, CRM, geolocalización.

Os sistemas de mapeamento geográfico do Google (Google Maps) e demais softwares acopladosao serviço (Google Earth e Google Street View) utilizam o registro fotográfico como principal121ALCEU – v. 20 – n. 40 – jan-jul/2020ferramenta de documentação e de mapeamento da geografia terrestre. Para a ciência cartográfica,a fotografia aérea é uma importante ferramenta de análise e de gerenciamento de informaçõesgeográficas, sendo a técnica ideal para a criação de uma narrativa visual, que preza pelaverossimilhança, ou seja: pela “melhor” e “mais fiel” representação possível do espaço. Por outrolado, neste paper, gostaria de problematizar o sentido comunicacional dos registros fotográficosfornecidos pelos mapas Google a partir da análise de duas séries fotográficas criadas por MishkaHenner: artista belga conhecido por utilizar, como fonte de pesquisa para suas obras, arquivosfotográficos disponíveis online. Ao que parece, as estratégias de apropriação, produção e montagemexpositiva operacionalizadas pelo artista são capazes de multiplicar as formas de comunicação dasimagens fotográficas, e de “fazer variar” o sentido deste conjunto de “fotografias-mapa” geradas pelaempresa Google.

Dado o contexto de excepcionalidade suscitado pela pandemia do vírus SARS-CoV-2, professores e alunos se reorganizaram para continuar seus estudos remotamente, o que implicou na reelaboração de metodologias de ensino e aprendizagem. Motivado pela necessidade de inovação das aulas de Geografia, este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar uma sequência didática para o ensino de cartografia a alunos do ensino médio em educação a distância e relatar seus principais resultados, tanto na perspectiva de sua capacidade de provocar aprendizagens significativas, quanto de sua capacidade de gerar engajamento. Desenvolvida a partir do Google Maps, Google Street View e Google Forms, e inspirada nas Corridas de Orientação, a atividade foi proposta para que os alunos pudessem vivenciar as lições aprendidas sobre a navegação em mapas em situações virtuais. Os resultados mostraram que a metodologia foi capaz de melhorar as habilidades de leitura e navegação de mapas dos alunos. Concluiu-se que os recursos de navegação virtual oferecidos pelas ferramentas de geovisualização podem ser apropriados como importantes aliados no ensino remoto de Geografia.
