ABSTRACT To review the occurrence of pelvic, anorectal and urinary symptoms according to the nutritional status of adultwomen. Methods This is a cross-sectional study with 54 women, aged 18 to 35 years, divided into normal weight (<25kg/m2), overweight (25kg/m2 to 29.99kg/m2) and obesity (≥30kg/m2) according to the body mass index. The presence of pelvic floor muscle dysfunction symptoms was assessed by the Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory and the impact of these symptoms by the Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used, with a significance level of 5%. Results Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory total score was 22.95 (SD=26.11) in the eutrophic group and 59.67 (SD=47.80) in the obesity group (p=0.01). Considering the scales, urinary symptoms were higher in obese women than in the eutrophic group (p=0.01). In the assessment of patients with each symptom, a difference (p<0.01) was observed in incomplete bowel emptying, in which the highest frequency occurred in overweight women (47.4%) compared to eutrophic and obese women (both 26.3%). Urinary incontinence symptoms (18.2% in eutrophic women, 27.3% overweight and 54.5% obese), stress urinary incontinence (8.3% eutrophic, 41.7% overweight and 50.0%, obese) and difficulty in emptying the bladder (0.0% eutrophic, 33.3% overweight and 66.7% obese) exhibited higher frequencies (p=0.03; p<0,01 and p=0.02, respectively) in obese women. Conclusion Symptoms of pelvic floor muscles dysfunction, especially urinary tract muscles, occur more frequently in obese adult women when compared to eutrophic women.

Abstract Background Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) concerns over 200 million women and girls worldwide and is associated with obstetric trauma and long-term urogynaecological and psychosexual complications that are often under-investigated and undertreated. The aim of this study was to assess the pelvic floor distress and the impact of pelvic floor and psychosexual symptoms among migrant women with different types of FGM/C. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted between April 2016 and January 2019 at the Division of Gynaecology of the Geneva University Hospitals. The participants were interviewed on socio-demographic and background information, underwent a systematic gynaecological examination to assess the presence and type of FGM/C and eventual Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP), and completed six validated questionnaires on pelvic floor and psychosexual symptoms (PFDI-20 and PFIQ7 on pelvic floor distress and impact, FISI and WCS on faecal incontinence and constipation, PISQ-IR and FGSIS on sexual function and genital self-image). The participants’ scores were compared with scores of uncut women available from the literature. The association between selected variables and higher scores for distress and impact of pelvic floor symptoms was assessed using univariate and multivariable linear regression models. Results 124 women with a mean age of 31.5 (± 7.5), mostly with a normal BMI, and with no significant POP were included. PFDI-20 and PFIQ-7 mean (± SD) scores were of 49.5 (± 52.0) and 40.7 (± 53.6) respectively. In comparison with the available literature, the participants’ scores were lower than those of uncut women with pelvic floor dysfunction but higher than those of uncut women without such disorders. Past violent events other than FGM/C and forced or arranged marriage, age at FGM/C of more than 10, a period of staying in Switzerland of less than 6 months, and nulliparity were significantly associated with higher scores for distress and impact of pelvic floor symptoms, independently of known risk factors such as age, weight, ongoing pregnancy and history of episiotomy. Conclusions Women with various types of FGM/C, without POP, can suffer from pelvic floor symptoms responsible for distress and impact on their daily life. Trial registration. The study protocol was approved by the Swiss Ethics Committee on research involving humans (protocol n°15-224).

Abstract Introduction and hypothesis Artistic gymnastics, team gymnastics and cheerleading are sports including high-impact activities. It is presumed that the athletes’ pelvic floor must be functioning well to prevent urinary (UI) and anal incontinence (AI) during sports. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and risk factors for UI and AI in female artistic gymnasts, team gymnasts and cheerleaders; the influence of UI and AI on daily living and sport performance; and the athletes’ knowledge about the pelvic floor muscles (PFM). Methods All female athletes ≥ 12 years of age competing in ≥ 1 National Championship in artistic gymnastics, team gymnastics or cheerleading in 2018/2019 were invited. International Consensus on Incontinence Questionnaires were used to assess the prevalence/bother of UI and AI. Results Among the 319 gymnasts and cheerleaders who participated, the prevalence of UI and AI was 67% and 84%, respectively. Age, training ≥ 4 days/week and straining to void were significantly associated with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and years of training with AI. Eighty-three percent of athletes with SUI reported a negative effect on sports performance, 22% would occasionally avoid training or specific exercises because of leakage, and 28% used pads for protection. Forty-one percent of the athletes had never heard about the PFM, and 74% reported an interest in PFM training to prevent/treat UI or AI. Conclusions UI and AI were prevalent in female gymnasts and cheerleaders, and SUI negatively influenced sport performance. The athletes’ knowledge about the PFM was limited.

Objective: The objectives of the study were to find out the prevalence of urinary incontinencein women. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted on five hundred one (501)women older than 18 years of age who were admitted in department of obstetrics andgynaecology of Shaheed Suhrawardi Medical College and Hospital from April to December2009, answered a questionnaire about urinary incontinence. They were grouped accordingto presence or absence of urinary incontinence (incontinent and continent) and type ofincontinence present (urge, stress and mixed). Results: Urinary incontinence was found in 104(20.8%) women, out of which 25 (24%)suffered from stress incontinence only, 21 (20.2%) suffered from urge incontinence and58(55.8%) suffered mixed incontinence.
