The Impact

Abstract The development of civilisation is linked inextricably with growing demand for electricity. Thus, the still-rapid increase in the level of utilisation of natural resources, including fossil fuels, leaves it more and more urgent that conventional energy technologies and the potential of the renewable energy sources be made subject to re-evaluation. It is estimated that last 200 years have seen use made of more than 50% of the available natural resources. Equally, if economic forecasts prove accurate, for at least several more decades, oil, natural gas and coal will go on being the basic primary energy sources. The alternative solution represented by nuclear energy remains a cause of considerable public concern, while the potential for use to be made of renewable energy sources is seen to be very much dependent on local environmental conditions. For this reason, it is necessary to emphasise the impact of research that focuses on the further sharpening-up of energy efficiency, as well as actions aimed at increasing society’s awareness of the relevant issues. The history of recent centuries has shown that rapid economic and social transformation followed on from the industrial and technological revolutions, which is to say revolutions made possible by the development of power-supply technologies. While the 19th century was “the age of steam” or of coal, and the 20th century the era of oil and gas, the question now concerns the name that will at some point come to be associated with the 21st century. In this paper, the subjects of discussion are primary energy consumption and energy resources, though three international projects on the global scale are also presented, i.e. ITER, Hydrates and DESERTEC. These projects demonstrate new scientific and technical possibilities, though it is unlikely that commercialisation would prove feasible before 2050. Research should thus be focused on raising energy efficiency. The development of high-efficiency technologies that reinforce energy security is presented, with it being assumed that these new high-efficiency technologies are capable of being applied globally in the near future.

Paper In modern trend renewable energy sources has taken vast place in power generation. out of all renewable energy sources solar power generation source has high efficiency . in our paper we have using a converter which step up the power generation through photo voltaic cell. Coupled inductor topology not step up input but also provides uninterrupted power supply to load. This type of system is used in island applications. Voltage developed by photo voltaic cell is 15v which is step up to 220V using our proposed converter with power of 100W, this converter provide output which is fifteen times of input. This converter is transformer less and has negligence losses therefore it is DC-DC converter used for DC applications and for Ac applications by connecting an inverter to it.

The use of different sources to energize a load is convenient in many applications, particularly those where two or more renewable energy sources are employed, such as energy harvesting, hybrid vehicles, and off-grid systems. In these cases, a multi-input converter is able to admit sources with different characteristics and, if necessary, select the output power of each source. Several topologies of multi-input converters have been proposed to this aim; however, most of them are based on multistage designs, which decreases efficiency and increases control complexity, particularly when more than two sources are used. In this work, a three-input step-up converter, easy to control in open loop condition, is analyzed. A designed procedure is described, and experimental results are presented for a 1 kW power converter. The implemented converter results in a higher voltage gain and less storage element, keeping high efficiency compared to similar topologies. Using the procedure here proposed, this converter that was initially designed for photovoltaic applications is enabled to be used in medium- and high-power applications, for example, when renewable energy sources are used.

In the context of the sustainable development, the problem of the widespread use of renewable energy resources, which are clean and inexhaustible, is becoming more acute. In this regard, it is necessary to develop some capture installations that use renewable energy sources as efficiently as possible and with low impact on the environment. This paper presents a patented installation that integrates three sources of renewable energy: wind energy, solar energy and hydraulic energy of water current. The efficiency of this complex installation is given by the fact that the simultaneous capitalization of the three renewable energy sources leads to a high efficiency, in relation with the occupied area. To increase the renewable energy absorption level, both the air turbine and the hydraulic turbine have been equipped with different bioengineering models of blades and paddles. Following the testing of the two turbines equipped with blades and paddles with bioengineering geometry, a significant improvement of their efficiency was found, compared to the initial blades and paddles.

This study investigates the technical and cost-effective performance of options renewable energy sources to develop a green off-grid telecommunication tower to replace diesel generators in Malaysia. For this purpose, the solar, wind, pico-hydro energy, along with diesel generators, were examined to compare. In addition, the modeling of hybrid powering systems was conducted using hybrid optimization model for energy (HOMER) simulation based on techno-economic analysis to determine the optimal economically feasible system. The optimization findings showed that the hybrid high-efficiency fixed photovoltaic (PV) system with battery followed by 2 kW pico-hydropower and battery are the optimal configurations for powering off-grid telecommunication towers in Malaysia with the lowest net present cost (NPC) and cost of energy (COE). These costs of NPC and COE are more down than diesel generator costs with battery by 17.45%, 16.45%, 15.9%, and 15.5%, respectively. Furthermore, the economic evaluation of the high-efficiency solar fixed PV panels system annual cash flow compared to the diesel generator with the battery system indicated a ten-year payback period.

Currently, environmental and climate change issues raise a lot of concerns related to conventional vehicles and renewable energy generation methods. Thus, more and more researchers around the world focus on the development and deployment of Renewable Energy Sources (RES). Additionally, due to the technological advancements in power electronics and electrical batteries, Electrical Vehicles (EVs) are becoming more and more popular. In addition, according to the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) operation, the EV batteries can provide electrical energy to the power grid. In this way, many ancillary services can be provided. A Direct Current (DC) nanogrid can be composed by combining the aforementioned technologies. Nanogrids present high efficiency and provide a simple interaction with renewable energy sources and energy storage devices. Firstly, the present study describes the design considerations of a DC nanogrid as well as the control strategies that have to be applied in order to make the V2G operation feasible. Furthermore, the provision of voltage regulation toward the power grid is investigated though the bidirectional transfer of active and reactive power between the DC nanogrid and the power grid. Afterwards, the voltage regulation techniques are applied in an Alternating Current (AC) radial distribution grid are investigated. The proposed system is simulated in Matlab/Simulink software and though the simulation scenarios the impact of the voltage regulation provided by the DC nanogrid is investigated.

As building codes are pushing towards higher energy efficiency and the arrival of nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) requirements for all new buildings are just around the corner the need for alternative, high efficiency heating and cooling solutions for nZEB’s is greater than ever. Also as experience with renewable energy sources has proven the energy demand and energy generation rarely overlaps and it does not allow to fully utilise some renewable energy sources. This is a simulation study that focuses on integrated cooling and energy storage system utilising phase-change materials (PCM). Several types of thermally activated slabs with different PCM thicknesses were simulated in order to find the most optimal PCM thickness with melting point temperature that can support passive cooling methods based on adiabatic cooling principles. Two calculation tools were used for the study – IDA ICE 4.8 and U-NORM 2012-2 to calculate the properties of the slabs and potential of application in well insulated residential building in Baltic climate. The results showed that the optimal thickness for thermally activated PCM layer (large flat containers) range from 25 mm to 90 mm, and for layers with no thermal activation – 180 mm and more. Moreover the results show that apart from energy storage the thermally activated panel can increase thermal comfort conditions.

The best sources for energy production are renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, tidal energy, and other energy sources, which ensure the sustainability of power generation for life and even avoid the problems producing from fossil fuels combustion, which leads to air pollution, climate change, and many problems, but the main problem that facing Especially in developing countries, such as Yemen is the lack of a database and sufficient information to know the available capabilities for electricity production by natural resources that region possesses, especially the remote islands from the main power plant, which are powered by diesel and gas generators. In this paper, we will provide and list all-natural resources that possessed Socotra island, and its analysis to provide a clear vision that enables exploitation of these resources in the future on a clear scientific basis, as the study shows that mean wind speed is approximately 9.8 m/s, solar radiation reaches 180 kWh/m2, all these values ​​confirm island has the total ability to generate electricity from these sources with high efficiency.
