We present an analysis of mutual coupling effects on radiation pattern and individual coupling in a conformal array of cross rhombic antennas. Analysis is made using both full-wave simulation and numerical approaches implemented in Matlab. The array consists of a truncated hexagonal pyramid, with a cross rhombic antenna in each pyramidal face, including the one on the top, having a 7-antennas-array. Results of radiation pattern and S11 parameters are presented, showing mutual coupling effects among the elements.

The mutual coupling between elements of a multifrequency dipole antenna array is experimentally investigated byS-parameter measurements and planar near-field scanning of the radiated field. A multifrequency array with six dipoles is analyzed. In order to reduce the coupling between dipoles, a planar metasurface is placed atop the array acting as superstrate. The mutual coupling of the antenna elements in the absence and presence of the superstrate is presented comparatively. Between 3 and 20 dB mutual coupling reduction is achieved when the superstrate is used. By scanning the field radiated by the antennas and far-field measurements of the radiation pattern, it is observed that the superstrate confines the radiated power, increases the boresight radiation, and reduces the endfire radiation.

Abstract This paper presents an efficient approach for the design of a non-uniform single ring circular antenna array (CAA) for the synthesis of the optimal far-field radiation pattern. A recently proposed meta-heuristic-based optimization technique known as ant lion optimization (ALO) is applied in this paper to determine the optimum set of current amplitude excitation weights and the inter-element distance among the array elements to reduce the side lobe level (SLL) and 3-dB beam width considering the mutual coupling effect. The results achieved by employing the ALO algorithm are compared with the uniform radiation pattern and with those of the recently reported literature containing equal sets of elements to prove the superiority of ALO algorithm. Three different design examples of 8, 10, and 12 elements CAA are presented, and their performances are compared to illustrate the capability of the ALO algorithm-based approach over those of the recently reported literature.

In the antenna array there is a mutual coupling effect. Mutual coupling causes a decrease in the characteristics of the antenna parameters. In this study, an analysis of the effect of mutual coupling on beamforming results was carried out. In this study, it was concluded that the effect of mutual coupling depends on the distance between the antenna elements. In the simulation for the beam pointing to 60 degrees, at a distance of lambda the resulting beam is shifted by 70%. Distance of 12 lambda, beam shifted 25% to 45 degrees. At 3 4 lambda distance, the beam is close to the desired result direction, 64 degrees to be precise, at the lambda distance there is a grating lobe effect. In the end, it was found that mutual coupling affects the beam direction which causes the antenna radiation pattern to change.

An edge slotted waveguide antenna array based on T-shaped cross-section radiating waveguide is proposed. The T-shaped waveguide is analyzed and designed to operate in dominant mode around the center frequency, which has a lower profile compared with the rectangular one. The radiating slots are etched and rotated alternatively on the broadened top plate without cutting into the adjacent walls. The metal fences are inserted between slots to reduce the mutual coupling and surface wave. Therefore, the sidelobe level in E-plane is well suppressed. A 2 × 8 antenna array working at Ka-band is designed and fabricated. The measured results agree well with simulations which demonstrate this novel waveguide structure.
