The paper deals with the design of an ideal positioning servo system. To achieve this aim, we will derive transfer functions of the PID controller and the second-order low-pass filter while using typical fault frequencies for PID controller with a low pass filter. Consequently, an overall frequency characteristic of the open servo system will be depicted. This characteristic will be further used to determine the amplitude and phase safety, which determine the degree of stability system.

The chattering phenomenon and a system with both matched and mismatched disturbances are the major difficulties in sliding mode control design. This paper presents an effective design procedure to alleviate these two difficulties for a class of second-order under-actuated mechanical systems. In the proposed design, new hierarchical sliding surfaces are designed and a modified disturbance observer is utilized to estimate the lumped disturbance which is a linear combination of the matched and mismatched disturbances. The chatter in control input is filtered out by an integrator, which acts as a low-pass filter. The asymptotic stabilities of the entire sliding surfaces are guaranteed. A design study considering lateral control of a vehicle with matched and mismatched disturbances demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed design.

History Of

The history of Tow–Thomas second-order filter is reviewed. Two alternative generation methods of the Tow–Thomas filter are discussed. The first is a generation method from the second-order passive RLC filter and the second is from the multiple feedbacks inverting low-pass filter using a single op amp. Several forms of the circuit are briefly reviewed. Passive and active compensation methods to improve the circuit performance for high-Q designs are summarized. Spice simulation results are included.

Second-order IIR low-pass filter is widely used in digital signal processing. A fast filter algorithm without multiplication is proposed for it in this paper. A configuration method for the filter coefficient of fast algorithm is put forward, considering the characteristic of second-order IIR low-pass filter coefficient and the filter’s mathematical model. A performance analysis of fast second-order IIR low-pass filter without multiplication is shown in the paper, and the performance of the fast filter is shown by example using MATLAB simulation. What’s more, the algorithm’s rapidity is verified by an implementation of the filter on FPGA, which turns out that fast filtering algorithm takes only 54.7% of common algorithm’s operation time to realize the same filer function.
