Distributed multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar has attracted much attention for its improved detection and estimation performance as well as enhanced electronic counter-counter measures (ECCM) ability. To protect the target from being detected and tracked by such radar, we consider a barrage jamming strategy towards a distributed MIMO. We first derive the Cramer–Rao bound (CRB) of target parameters estimation using a distributed MIMO under barrage jamming environments. We then set maximizing the CRB as the criterion for jamming resource allocation, aiming at degrading the accuracy of target parameters estimation. Due to the non-convexity of the CRB maximizing problem, particle swarm optimization is used to solve the problem. Simulation results demonstrate the advantages of the proposed strategy over traditional jamming methods.

AbstractThe breadth first signal decoder (BSIDE) is well known for its optimal maximum likelihood (ML) performance with lesser complexity. In this paper, we analyze a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) detection scheme that combines; column norm based ordering minimum mean square error (MMSE) and BSIDE detection methods. The investigation is carried out with a breadth first tree traversal technique, where the computational complexity encountered at the lower layers of the tree is high. This can be eliminated by carrying detection in the lower half of the tree structure using MMSE and upper half using BSIDE, after rearranging the column of the channel using norm calculation. The simulation results show that this approach achieves 22% of complexity reduction for 2×2 and 50% for 4×4 MIMO systems without any degradation in the performance.

By utilizing a tiny frequency increment across the array elements, frequency diverse array (FDA) generates a beampattern possessing the property of range-angle-dependent. However, the beampattern of the conventional FDA is “S”-shaped, which means it is coupled in range-angle domains, resulting in low target indication accuracy and poor jamming suppression ability. In this paper, taking advantage of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technique and multiple matched filters, a new FDA framework using Hamming window weighted linear frequency increments is proposed. Correct FDA-MIMO framework and multiple matched filters are used to remove the influence of the time parameter. A range-angle-decoupled beampattern with sharp pencil-shaped mainlobe and low sidelobe levels can be produced. Comparing with the existing FDA-decoupled transmit beampattern design methods, a more focusing beampattern can be achieved. Simulation results validate the superiority of the proposed system.

Detection is a major challenge for the utilization of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. Even the fixed sphere decoding (FSD), which is known for its simplicity in calculation, requests too much computation in high order modulation and large number antenna system especially for mobile battery-operated devices. In this paper, a reduced FSD algorithm is proposed to simplify the calculation complexity of the FSD while maintaining the performance at the same time. Simulation results in a 4×4, 16-QAM system show that up to 89% calculation can be saved while the performance drop is less than 0.1dB when SNR=24.

One of the main advantages of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is that the degrees-of-freedom can be significantly increased by the concept of virtual antenna array, and thus the MIMO antenna array should be carefully designed to fully utilize the virtual antenna array. In this paper, we design the MIMO antenna array with the polynomial factorization method. For a desired virtual antenna array, the polynomial factorization method can optimally design the specified MIMO transmitter and receiver. The array performance is examined by analyzing the degrees-of-freedom and statistical output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) performance. Design examples and simulation results are provided.

In this paper, we design the source precoding matrix and the relay amplifying matrix of a multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) non-regenerative relay system. Different from the other algorithms, we first introduce a new model with new unknown but to be designed variables. Then we proposed an iterative algorithm to get the source precoding matrix and the relay amplifying matrix to optimize the system performance. The simulation results show that the proposed design algorithms can improve mean square error (MSE) performance.

Frequency diverse array (FDA) has attracted much attention in recent years due to its range-angle-dependent beampattern. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar can offer waveform diversity to increase the virtual aperture length for azimuth coherent focus processing in radar imaging. Combining the advantages of FDA and MIMO radar, FDA-MIMO radar can steer multiple beams to different targets in the same line of sight (LOS) of radar with different waveforms. In this paper, an improved FDA model with the logistic map is proposed to get the aperiodic and range-angle uncoupling beampattern. Based on the proposed FDA, combining the FDA-MIMO radar, the waveform and chirp rate jitter techniques are adopted to mainlobe jamming suppression. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Massive multiple-input multiple-output techniques have attracted wide attention as one of the key technologies of 5G. Pilot reuse based on the same pilot sequence is necessary among different users due to limited pilot resources. In this study, a pilot reuse mode based on continuous pilot reuse factors is proposed to pursue a flexible pilot reuse mode with high spectral efficiency (SE). In this mode, users in every cell are grouped, and different groups use different pilot reuse factors. Therefore, any overall pilot reuse factor is achieved to increase the flexibility of pilot reuse considerably. A theoretical analysis proves that the proposed pilot reuse based on continuous pilot reuse factors is superior to the traditional pilot reuse based on single pilot reuse factor to some extent in terms of SE. A new method to search the optimal pilot reuse based on continuous pilot reuse factors is also introduced. Simulation results demonstrate that, in most cases, the optimal pilot reuse mode based on continuous pilot reuse factors is better than the traditional mode. Such superiority still exists under a limited number of antennas.
