With mission critical web applications and resources being hosted on cloud environments, and cloud services growing fast, the need for having greater level of service assurance regarding fault tolerance for availability and reliability has increased. The high priority now is ensuring a fault tolerant environment that can keep the systems up and running. To minimize the impact of downtime or accessibility failure due to systems, network devices or hardware, the expectations are that such failures need to be anticipated and handled proactively in fast, intelligent way. This article discusses the fault tolerance system for cloud computing environments, analyzes whether this is effective for Cloud environments.

Automated manufacturing defects are types of composite structure defects that occur during fiber deposition by advanced robots. The induced gap is the most probable type of defect in the Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) technique. This defect can affect the mechanical performance of the composite structures at both material level by inducing the material inhomogeneity and the structural level by introducing the consolidation effect in the structure during the curing process. The current study investigates the effect of induced-gaps on the damage assessment of thin composite plates under Low-Velocity Impact (LVI) loading. The paper focuses on the delamination initiation and propagation and the residual plastic strain state of the impacted plates. The primary application of this study is to understand the interaction of induced gaps on the delamination pattern of composite samples subjected to LVI. For this purpose, a series of LVI tests are performed. Ultrasonic C-scan analysis and microscopic observation are implied to evaluate the internal damage due to impact loading. Finite Element (FE) analyses are then performed to evaluate the residual strain of the composite plates under Impact Energy (IE) loading less than 15 J. Then, the residual plastic strain in the impact zone is evaluated using a meso-macro method, and the effect of the local plasticity that occurs in the gap zones on the delamination initiation and propagation is studied. Results show that the stress relaxation due to the resin plasticity at the gap areas can affect the delamination pattern of the impacted composite plates. It is also shown that the residual strain of the impacted plates at the gap areas are new sources of the damages that need to be considered in the LVI analysis of the composite plates manufactured by the AFP technique.

Redundancy - mostly used method to increase fault tolerance of the system. Fault tolerance in modern embedded systems is important feature due to accelerating aging and manufacturing defects, which diagnosis during the chip testing at fabric is impossible. In addition, different ways of system using may need different degree of fault tolerance. From Application Specified Integrated Circuit (ASIC) design point of view redundancy means area and power increasing. On early design stages, it is necessary to see the correlation between the components hardware description and its synthesized equivalent. The article considers several variants of synthesized redundant components that show the effect on area and power regarding to their architecture. The main goal of presented research is to describe RTL and Synthesis correlation.

Recent advances in semantic algorithms and pervasive communication are based entirely on the assumption that DHTs and hierarchical databases are not in conflict with write-back caches. Here, we argue the emulation of the partition table that would allow for further study into information retrieval systems. Our focus in this paper is not on whether the famous embedded algorithm for the study of e-business by Harris et al. is NP-complete, but rather on motivating an application for Byzantine fault tolerance (Mesophryon).

When a new product is designed in an industrial context, it must be possible to produce this product with the desired level of quality and at an acceptable cost for the market. One of the important quality criteria is compliance with functional tolerances. To evaluate the impact of manufacturing defects on the quality of parts produced, designers simulate the influence of the error stack-up in different machining operations to check compliance with functional tolerances. This paper builds on the model of manufactured part and the Jacobian–Torsor model and presents a combined approach for analyzing machined part tolerance taking into account the geometrical defects occurring in a multistage machining process (positioning defects and machining defects). This combined approach aims to help designers when evaluating the different process plans by predicting the worst quality of finished parts. This study uses interval arithmetic because it offers the advantage of expressing uncertainties and deviations.

Taking α-lattice flocking as research object, the influence when faults occur in flock and its fault tolerance control algorithm is studied. The impact on flocking performance is analyzed by means of flocking property indexes when communication error, actuator failure or sensor malfunction occur. A flocking fault diagnosis method and fault tolerance control strategy based on communication and data association are introduced. Considering failure mobile robots as obstacles, a complex shaped obstacles avoidance algorithm is proposed. Simulation shows the effectiveness of the method.
