In this paper, a simple mail box design of a dual band microstrip patch antenna, is proposed, designed, fabricated and measured for wireless LAN communications. The proposed antenna is designed using the TLC 30 (TACONIC) substrate, with a relative permittivity of 4.3 and substrate height of 1.6mm. It is designed to operate at 2.44 GHz and 5. 30 GHz respectively. The proposed antenna is the size of 31mm x 34mm x1.6mm and is incited by a 50 Ω micro strip feed line. The characteristics of the antenna are designed and the performance of the modelled antenna is evaluated using CST Microwave Studio. The return loss, radiation patterns and peak antenna gain of 6.5 dBi for frequency 2.44 GHz and 6.2 dBi for 5.30 GHz is separately and successfully plotted. The fabricated prototype exhibits an agreement between the measured and simulated return loss.

This paper presents a compact sized inset-fed rectangular microstrip patch antenna embedded with double-P slots. The proposed antenna has been designed and fabricated on ceramic-PTFE composite material substrate of high dielectric constant value. The measurement results from the fabricated prototype of the antenna show −10 dB reflection coefficient bandwidths of 200 MHz and 300 MHz with center resonant frequency of 1.5 GHz and 4 GHz, respectively. The fabricated antenna has attained gains of 3.52 dBi with 81% radiation efficiency and 5.72 dBi with 87% radiation efficiency for lower band and upper band, respectively. The measured E- and H-plane radiation patterns are also presented for better understanding. Good agreement between the simulation and measurement results and consistent radiation patterns make the proposed antenna suitable for GPS and C-band applications.

This letter presents a Ka-band(26.5GHz-40GHz) microstrip patch antenna with pattern reconfigurable characteristic. The antenna is provided with five rectangular patches and four RF MEMS (microelectromechanical systems for RF circuits) switches. The central patch and other surrounding patches are connected by the switches. By changing the states of the switches, the antenna can achieve four radiation patterns and it is designed and simulated by using Ansoft HFSS. In addition, the different states are operated at the same centre frequency of 35GHz and the gain of the main radiation direction is about 7.5dB

IMPATT diodes were designed and integrated with microstrip patch antenna on–chip in standard CMOS technology to extract the efficiency beyond avalanche frequency. By comparing the on-chip simulations and measurements of an IMPATT diode integrated in a CPW to an integrated one with a microstrip patch antenna at the same biasing conditions, the results demonstrated an efficiency ranging from ~ 0.01% to 0.016% without and with the added surface roughness losses, respectively. Such variation is strongly associated with the uncertainty provided by the increase of conduction losses ranging between 40%~80% beyond the avalanche frequency.

Rectangular Microstrip Patch Antenna

In this paper, the performance of Microstrip Patch Antenna (MSPA) is analyzed by changing the substrate materials. MSPA is designed to operate with the fixed dimensions of ????????×????????×????.???????????????? for three substrate materials. A comparison has been done in terms of reflection coefficient (S11), gain, efficiency (η), radiation pattern and cost. The simulated results show very good performance with TLC substrate as compared to FR4 and RT Duroid by showing good radiation efficiency for all the three bands viz 7.0, 9.6 and 10.8 GHz with the efficiency of 99%, 99% and 96% respectively, stable radiation patterns, gain of 1.32, 1.81 and 2.0 dB. FR-4 and RT Duroid produces two bands each of 8.4/ 9.6 GHz and 11.1/12.0 GHz respectively which shows a gain of 1.29/1.36 dB for FR4 and 1.04/7.95 dB for RT Duroid along with efficiency of 68%/ 60% and 96%/96% respectively with acceptable bandwidth. The Antenna is simulated using HFSS simulator solution software.
