This paper presents an implementation of Eurocode load cases for discrete global optimization algorithm for planar structures based on the principles of finite element methods and genetic algorithms. The final optimal design is obtained using IPE sections chosen as feasible by the algorithm, from the available steel sections from industry. The algorithm is tested on an asymmetric planar steel frame with promising results.

In order to find a better method of optimal design of vibration-impact rammer, perfect the dynamic model of vibration-impact rammer. Based on the viscoelastic-plastic theory of soil body, the dynamic model and equation set of vibration-impact rammer and soil body system are built. After computer programming, the real-time working data of vibration-impact rammer is obtained and a new method for optimal design of vibration-impact rammer is provided.

In this article, an optimal design problem of spur gear drive with a fixed load factor is formulated as a nonlinear optimization model. Three methods are presented to find the globally optimal design scheme on the structure of the spur gear pair. By suitable variable transformation, the constructed model is first converted into a linear program with mixed variables. By developing an algorithm of global optimization for solving a binary linear programming with mixed variables, all global optimal solutions are found for the original design problem. Taking into account the modification of the contact ratio factors, a specific global optimization method is provided to optimize the design of spur gear drive with soft tooth flank in a continuous variable space. On the basis of enumeration of the discrete variables and utilization of the monotonicity in the optimal model, another global optimization method is designed to search for the global optimal solutions in the mixed variable space, which does not depend upon whether the modification of contact ratio factor exists or not. Case studies are employed to demonstrate the validity and practicability of the constructed model and the proposed methods.

The paper has designed a new method of hot air from air preheater heating electrical precipitator ash hopper. Firstly, the connection method of air preheater and ash hopper interlining has been drawn in design sketches. Then, through finding out the optimal design parameters such as diameter, flow velocity and temperature, the optimal scheme has been determined. It came to the conclusion that the new type of heating method has good feasibility and value of promotion.
