We present the first measurement of the electron angular distribution parameter α2 in W → e ν events in proton-antiproton collisions as a function of the W boson transverse momentum. Our analysis is based on data collected using the DØ detector during the 1994–1995 Fermilab Tevatron run. We compare our results with next-to-leading order perturbative QCD, which predicts an angular distribution of (1 ± α1 cos θ* + α2 cos 2 θ*), where θ* is the polar angle of the electron in the Collins-Soper frame and α1 and α2 are functions of [Formula: see text], the W boson transverse momentum. This measurement provides a test of next-to-leading order QCD corrections which are a non-negligible contrbution to the W boson mass measurement.

The present work is aimed at the study of the characteristics of particle production in interactions between proton and light nuclei. The features studied are angular distribution, inelasticity, transverse momentum, and center-of-mass momentum of the secondary particles. In order to determine the contribution of multinucleon collisions, the results have been compared with those of proton–nucleon interactions. It has been found that, whereas the features of low-multiplicity events closely resemble the similar events from p–N collisions, those of high-multiplicity events are somewhat modified by the occurrence of intranuclear interactions.

We summarize a new analysis of the distribution [Formula: see text] of charged leptons produced in decays of Z and γ* bosons in the Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) formalism for transverse momentum resummation. By comparing the [Formula: see text] distribution measured at the Tevatron with the resummed CSS cross section with approximate [Formula: see text] Wilson coefficients, we constrain the magnitude of the nonperturbative Gaussian smearing factor and analyze its uncertainty caused by variations in scale parameters. We find excellent agreement between the [Formula: see text] data and our theoretical prediction, provided by the RESBOS resummation program. The nonperturbative factor that we obtained can be used to update resummed QCD predictions for precision measurements in inclusive W and Z production and for comparisons to various models of nonperturbative dynamics.
