Ο ανιχνευτής ATLAS, ένα γενικών κατευθύνσεων πείραμα πρωτονίων σε πρωτόνια για το Μεγάλο Αδρονικό Επιταχυντή (Large Hadron Collider, LHC), θα μπορέσει να ερευνήσει πλήρως τις υψηλές ενέργειες των 14~TeV που θα γίνουν προσιτές. Ο LHC θα εγκατασταθεί στην υπάρχουσα σήραγγα του Μεγάλου Επιταχυντή Ηλεκτρονίων Ποζιτρονίων (Large Electron Positron collider, LEP), μήκους περιφέρειας 27 km, στο CERN. Αναμένεται να αρχίσει τη λειτουργία του το 2006.Ο Ανιχνευτής Ακτινοβολίας Μετάβασης (Transition Radiation Tracker, TRT), ο οποίος αποτελεί μέρος του εσωτερικού ανιχνευτή του ATLAS, συνδυάζει την ανίχνευση τροχιών και την αναγνώριση ηλεκτρονίων. Η ανίχνευση τροχιών πραγματοποιείται από εύκαμπτους σωληνίσκους γεμάτους με αέριο, ενώ οι ενδιάμεσοι ακτινοβολητές παράγουν ανιχνεύσιμες ακτίνες-X όταν διασχίζονται από ηλεκτρόνια. Σε αυτή τη διατριβή, τελειοποιείται και τεκμηριώνεται ο σχεδιασμός του ακραίου TRT μέσω λεπτομερών μελετών επί μίας πρότυπης μονάδας. Αυτές περιλαμβάνουν μετρήσεις πλήρους κλίμακας της τάσης του σύρματος ανόδου και προσδιορισμό της κυρτότητας των σωληνίσκων, ώστε να εξασφαλιστεί μία ομοιόμορφη απόκριση κατά μήκος των σωληνίσκων κατά την κανονική λειτουργία. Και στους δύο ελέγχους, η απόδοση της μονάδας κρίθηκε ικανοποιητική σύμφωνα με καθορισμένες προδιαγραφές. Μελετήθηκε επίσης η ομοιομορφία της ροής για διάφορες διατάξεις τροφοδοσίας του αερίου, εκμεταλλευόμενοι την ευαισθησία της ενίσχυσης αερίου στη σύνθεση του αερίου. Καταλήγουμε σε ένα τελικό σχεδιασμό εισαγωγής/εξαγωγής αερίου για τους τροχούς του ακραίου TRT.Πραγματοποιήθηκε μία ανάλυση της δυνατότητας ανακάλυψης από τον ανιχνευτή ATLAS ενός υπερσυμμετρικού μποζονίου Higgs στο θεωρητικό πλαίσιο της υπερβαρύτητας. Αποδεικνύεται ότι, σε αυτό το πρότυπο, είναι δυνατή η ανακάλυψη του ελαφρού σωματιδίου Higgs σε μεγάλο μέρος του χώρου παραμέτρων. Για το συγκεκριμένο κανάλι, h→bb, η ικανότητα b-σήμανσης του εσωτερικού ανιχνευτή του ATLAS είναι πρωταρχικής σημασίας. Παρουσιάζεται μία σύγκριση της δυνατότητας ανίχνευσης του Higgs του Καθιερωμένου Προτύπου μεταξύ του ATLAS και των ανιχνευτών του Tevatron. Η αναμενόμενη απόδοση από το Tevatron για το Run II στο κανάλι WH→lνbb κρίνεται μάλλον αισιόδοξη. Διερευνάται επίσης η ακρίβεια στη μέτρηση μάζας των μποζονίων Higgs του Ελάχιστου Υπερσυμμετρικού Καθιερωμένου Προτύπου (Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, MSSM). Εκμεταλλευόμενοι την ποικιλία τελικών καταστάσεων οι οποίες είναι προσιτές στον LHC, μία ακρίβεια μεταξύ ~0.1% και ~3% μπορεί να επιτευχθεί σε μεγάλο μέρος του χώρου παραμέτρων του MSSM.

Assuming the observation of a squark at the Large Hadron Collider, we investigate methods to access its flavour content and thus gain information on the underlying flavour structure of the theory. Based on simple observables, we apply a likelihood inference method to determine the top-flavour content of the observed particle. In addition, we employ a multivariate analysis in order to classify different flavour hypotheses. Both methods are discussed within a simplified model and the more general Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model including most general squark mixing. We conclude that the likelihood inference may provide an estimation of the top-flavour content if additional knowledge, especially on the gaugino sector is available, while the multivariate analysis identifies different flavour patterns and can accommodate a more minimalistic set of observables.

Higgs boson with mass mh = 126 GeV was discovered at Large Hadron Collider in 2012. Its mass corresponds both to Standard Model of elementary-particles physics and to the mass of the most lightweight Higgs boson in the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model. In this paper, we consider the MSSM model not preserving CP-invariance that contain a large number of parameters to be variated. Using the experimental value of the Higgs boson mass, we obtain the restrictions on the parameters of the model, describe phenomenological scenarios, and analyze possible areas of the space of parameters.

Experimental collaborations for the large hadron collider conducted various searches for supersymmetry. In the absence of signals, lower limits were put on sparticle masses but usually within frameworks with (over-)simplifications relative to the entire indications by supersymmetry models. For complementing current interpretations of experimental bounds, we introduce a 30-parameter version of the R-parity conserving Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM-30). Using a sample of the MSSM-30 which are in harmony with cold dark matter, flavor and precision electroweak constraints, we explicitly show the prospects for assessing neutralino candidate dark matter in contrast to future searches for supersymmetry. The MSSM-30-parameter regions that are beyond reach to dark matter direct detection experiments could be probed by future hadron–hadron colliders.

The Large Hadron Collider(LHC) is a proton proton collider being built at CERN, Geneva which will collide two 7 TeV proton beams giving a center of mass energy of 14 TeV. The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) is a multi-purpose detector at the LHC which is designed to discover the Higgs boson over the mass range of 90 to 1000 GeV. Since LEP searches have put a 95% C.L. lower bound on (standard model) Higgs mass of 114.4 GeV and theory excludes mass above about 1 TeV, CMS should discover the Higgs if it exists. In this paper, we will review CMS's Higgs-discovery potential both in the Standard Model and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model for Higgs bosons produced in gluon-gluon fusion and in vector boson fusion mechanisms. Particular emphasis will be placed on discovery in the early years of running with luminosity of about 2 × 1033cm-2/s.

There is strong evidence from cosmological data that the universe underwent an epoch of superluminal expansion called inflation. A satisfactory embedding of inflation in fundamental physics has been an outstanding problem at the interface of cosmology and high energy physics. We show how inflation can be realized within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The inflaton candidates are two specific combinations of supersymmetric partners of quarks and leptons. MSSM inflation occurs at a low scale and generates perturbations in the range experimentally allowed by the latest data from Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP). The parameter space for inflation is compatible with supersymmetric dark matter, and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is capable of discovering the inflaton candidates in the allowed regions of parameter space.
