We show that a recent analysis in the strong coupling limit of the λϕ4 theory proves that this theory is indeed trivial giving in this limit the expansion of a free quantum field theory. We can get in this way the propagator with the renormalization constant and the renormalized mass. As expected the theory in this limit has the same spectrum as a harmonic oscillator. Some comments about triviality of the Yang–Mills theory in the infrared are also given.

In this article I attempt to collect some ideas, opinions and formulae which may be useful in solving the problem of gauge/string/space-time correspondence. This includes the validity of D-brane representation, counting of gauge-invariant words, relations between the null states and the Yang-Mills equations and the discussion of the strong coupling limit of the string sigma model. The article is based on the talk given at the "Odyssey 2001" conference.

We analyze in depth two widely used definitions (from the theory of conditional probablity amplitudes and from the adiabatic connection formalism) of the exchange-correlation energy density and of the response potential of Kohn-Sham density functional theory. We introduce a local form of the coupling-constant-dependent Hohenberg-Kohn functional, showing that the difference between the two definitions is due to a corresponding local first-order term in the coupling constant, which disappears globally (when integrated over all space), but not locally. We also design an analytic representation for the response potential in the strong-coupling limit of density functional theory for a model single stretched bond.<br>

The Grassmannian σ model with a topological term is studied on a lattice. The θ dependence of the partition function and the Wilson loop are evaluated in the strong coupling limit. The latter is shown to be independent of the area at θ = π, as in the CPN−1 model.

AbstractWe theoretically analyze heat exchange between two quantum systems in interaction with external thermostats. We show that in the strong coupling limit the widely used concept of mode temperatures loses its thermodynamic foundation and therefore cannot be employed to make a valid statement on cooling and heating in such systems; instead, the incorrectly applied concept may result in a severe misinterpretation of the underlying physics. We illustrate these general conclusions by discussing recent experimental results reported on the nanoscale heat transfer through quantum fluctuations between two nanomechanical membranes separated by a vacuum gap.

Abstract We consider U(N) $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory and discuss how to extract the strong coupling limit of non-planar corrections to observables involving the $$ \frac{1}{2} $$ 1 2 -BPS Wilson loop. Our approach is based on a suitable saddle point treatment of the Eynard-Orantin topological recursion in the Gaussian matrix model. Working directly at strong coupling we avoid the usual procedure of first computing observables at finite planar coupling λ, order by order in 1/N, and then taking the λ ≫ 1 limit. In the proposed approach, matrix model multi-point resolvents take a simplified form and some structures of the genus expansion, hardly visible at low order, may be identified and rigorously proved. As a sample application, we consider the expectation value of multiple coincident circular supersymmetric Wilson loops as well as their correlator with single trace chiral operators. For these quantities we provide novel results about the structure of their genus expansion at large tension, generalising recent results in arXiv:2011.02885.
