The electric field induced within four layered models by a repetitive current wave form in a circular loop transmitter is presented along with the resulting magnetic fields observed on the surface. The behavior of the induced electric field as a function of time explains the observed sign reversal of the vertical magnetic field on the surface. In addition, the differences between magnetic field responses for different models are explained by the behavior of the induced electric fields. The pattern of the induced electric field is shown to be that of a single “smoke ring,” as described by Nabighian (1979), which is distorted by layering but which remains a single ring system rather than forming separate smoke rings in each layer.

Three general models have been constructed for the fantastically powerful “central engine” that powers the enormous energy output from quasars and active galactic nuclei (AGN). One model assumes a rapidly rotating accretion disk around a central black hole (however the disks, thick or thin, are subject to violent instabilities). Another assumes that in some postulated circuitry energy is extracted from the rotational portion of the deepest potential hole known, a black hole. Both models appear implausible. The third model is the STRONG MAGNETIC FIELD MODEL (SMF) in which an extremely strong gravitationally bound current loop (GBCL) is formed during the gravitational collapse that forms the galaxy or quasar, producing a very intense dipole magnetic field anchored in the nucleus. SMF, first published in 1962, thus predicted the vertical magnetic field configuration seen today at our own galactic nucleus; to some the radio arcs observed suggest a dipole magnetic field there, just as SMF predicts.

In this paper, we present a study of the stable polar trajectories ([Formula: see text] = constant plane) of neutral test particles around a Schwarzschild black hole embedded in a magnetic field. We also show how the nature of these trajectories changes with the variation in the angular momentum of the test particle and the magnetic field parameter.

In this paper we obtain the energy distribution associated with the Ernst space–time (geometry describing Schwarzschild black hole in Melvin's magnetic universe) in Einstein's prescription. The first term is the rest-mass energy of the Schwarzschild black hole, the second term is the classical value for the energy of the uniform magnetic field and the remaining terms in the expression are due to the general relativistic effect. The presence of the magnetic field is found to increase the energy of the system.
