The method of the equation of motion is used to derive the Martin–Schwinger hierarchy for the nonequilibrium Green’s functions. The formal closure of the hierarchy is reached by using the selfenergy which provides a recipe for how to construct selfenergies from approximations of the two-particle Green’s function. The Langreth–Wilkins rules for a diagrammatic technique are shown to be equivalent to the weakening of initial correlations. The quantum transport equations are derived in the general form of Kadanoff and Baym equations. The information contained in the Green’s function is discussed. In equilibrium this leads to the Matsubara diagrammatic technique.

The present study was designed to define the potential of chlorpromazine (CPZ) as a protective agent against lipopolysaccharide (LPS) toxicity in comparison with glucocorticoids, and to obtain initial correlations with its effects on the levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF), a pivotal mediator of endotoxic shock. It was found that CPZ protects mice, normal or adrenalectomized, and guinea pigs against lethality of LPS, and inhibited TNF serum levels, like dexamethasone (DEX), a well-known inhibitor of TNF synthesis. CPZ protected against LPS lethality when administered 30 minutes (min) before, simultaneously, or up to 10 min after LPS and was ineffective when given 30 min after LPS, paralleling the inhibitory effect on TNF production. In another experimental model, where mice were sensitized to LPS toxicity by actinomycin D, CPZ significantly inhibited LPS lethality and hepatotoxicity, whereas under these conditions DEX was inactive. These experiments indicate that CPZ has a protective action in both glucocorticoid-sensitive and -resistant models of endotoxic shock.

By extending the response function approach developed in nonlinear optics, we analytically derive an expression for the non-Markovianity in the time evolution of a system in contact with a quantum mechanical bath, and find a close connection with the directly observable nonlinear optical response. The result indicates that memory in the bath-induced fluctuations rather than in the dissipation causes non-Markovianity. Initial correlations between states of the system and the bath are shown to be essential for a correct understanding of the non-Markovianity. These correlations are included in our treatment through a preparation function.

AbstractWe investigate the effects of phase shift on entanglement, quantum discord, geometric discord, and spinsqueezing of a Heisenberg chain under dephasing. An analytical solution of the present model is obtained. Our results show that the initial correlations of the spin chain could be partially stored for a long time in the presence of dephasing and the amount of steady state correlations can be adjusted via phase shift. Particularly, we find the effects of phase shift on quantum discord and geometric discord are not always the same, i.e., the increase of geometric discord does not always imply the increase of quantum discord. Then, we calculate the spin-squeezing of the spin chain and find that spin-squeezing first increases with time and then reaches a plateau. The amount of spin-squeezing can be controlled via phase shift.
