The order phase transition induced by an external field near the inversion point of the main anisotropy is analysed. It is shown that if the medium has the symmetry of the nematic liquid crystal or of the ferromagnetic material, the phase transition near this point can be of first order. The tricritical field and the hysteresis loop of this first order phase transition are evaluated. An evaluation of the tricritical point is also reported.

Abstract We study the stochastic background of gravitational waves which accompany the sudden freeze-out of dark matter triggered by a cosmological first order phase transition that endows dark matter with mass. We consider models that produce the measured dark matter relic abundance via (1) bubble filtering, and (2) inflation and reheating, and show that gravitational waves from these mechanisms are detectable at future interferometers.
