Oxide glasses having lower glass transition temperature are widely used in electric devices. The oxide glasses usually contain lead oxide. Recently, lead oxide glasses have been replaced with lead-free oxide glasses because of the environmental pollution. We investigated the thermal properties and the glass formation region in the Bi2O3-B2O3-ZnO ternary system. The results showed that the ratio of Tg/Tl of the bismate glasses is around 0.55, which is lower than the value of ratio 0.67, the two-third rule (Tg/ Tl=2/3)

AbstractReduction and separation of Pd were investigated in soda-lime-alumino-borosilicate glass. The dependence on raw materials, melting atmosphere, concentration of Pd and melting temperature was examined by electrochemical oxygen activity measurement, optical absorbance, X-ray diffraction and microscopic observation. Pd ions were slowly reduced during melting and metal particles were formed. The separation was enhanced in a reducing atmosphere, at high temperature, for long melting periods and with high concentration of Pd. Pd metal particles of about 10 to 30 μm in diameter were observed by SEM and X-ray diffraction.

The process of micro-grinding on hard brittle glass is shown in this paper, micro-grinding equipments are designed by tools of electroplated diamond, fz(feed rate), ap (grinding depth), vg(Grinding speed) in micro-grinding brittle materials and their effects to surface quality have been discussed. It has been demonstrated that low surface roughness could be achieved by high vg and low fz. The roughness of Soda-lime glass accomplished by fz:100μm/s, ap:30μm, vg:120000rpm in the experiment is about 78nm.

The paper presents the experimental study results of a multicomponent phase with M-type hexaferrite structure obtaining. The synthesis method of the BaO–PbO–SrO–CaO–ZnO–Fe2O3–Mn2O3–Al2O3 system melt was used. As a result of the study, microcrystalline octahedral and hexagonal phases were found in the crystallized sample. The hexagonal one, judging by the chemical composition, is a multicomponent phase with the structure of M-type hexaferrite (Ba/Sr/Ca) (Fe/Mn/Al)12O19, which is characterized (judging by the concentrations of the components) by rather high values of configurational mixing entropy. It was shown that lead is practically absent in the crystallized phase composition. The zinc content is unstable. Obviously, lead oxide in used experimental conditions, goes into the composition of the gas phase. The question of the possibility of using zinc as a component of the hexaferrite phase deserves further careful study.
