ABSTRACTBulk samples of YBa2Cu3O7−x have been homogenously irradiated with 3 MeV electrons at temperatures below 20 K. Whereas the superconducting transition temperature, Tc, drops dramatically with increasing dose the width of the transition remains unchanged (Δ Tc ≤ 1.5 K). The normal state resistance at 100 K increases substantially during the electron irradiation. Several irreproducible experiments can be interpreted with a radiation induced, unstable increase of Tc.

Electrical, magnetic and crystallographic measurements have been carried out for the pseudoquaternary Ho ( Ba 2−x Sr x) Cu 3 O 7−δ system in order to check the systematic variation of superconducting transition temperature T c , normal state electrical resistivity and phase boundary. T c decreases monotonically with the increasing Sr substitution and drops sharply to zero for x≥1.6. No resisitivity anomaly was observed.

ABSTRACTZn substitution for Cu in YBa2Cu3O7 rapidly reduces the superconducting transition temperature, Tc. Superconductivity is quenched between x=0.08 (T =30 K) and x=0.10. The normal state paramagnetism grows with Zn substu-tition, presumably due to increased localization on the Cu sublattice. Susceptibility studies of oxygen depleted (nonsuperconducting) Zn-substituted samples support this. Strong non-linear isothermal magnetization suggesting an internal magnetic field is found at T=4.2 K in samples with Zn concentration near to the critical value for suppression of superconductivity. The results are discussed in terms of increased localization of d-electrons on the Cu sites with increasing Zn concentration, which is consistent with recent EPR data.

The pressure dependence of the superconductivity of the Tl-Ba-Ca-Cu-O sample with T c >110 K was studied. It is observed that the superconducting transition temperature increases at the rate of d T co / d P≈1.83 K/GPa up to 1.8K/GPa and the gentle steps of T c are always followed by a jump of the normal state resistance which is considered exhibiting the change of some fine structure related to the Cu-O planes.

We investigated the effect of enhancement of superconducting transition temperature Tc by nonmagnetic atom disorder in the series of filled skutterudite-related compounds (La3M4Sn13, Ca3Rh4Sn13, Y5Rh6Sn18, Lu5Rh6Sn18; M= Co, Ru, Rh), where the atomic disorder is generated by various defects or doping. We have shown that the disorder on the coherence length scale ξ in these nonmagnetic quasiskutterudite superconductors additionally generates a non-homogeneous, high-temperature superconducting phase with Tc⋆>Tc (dilute disorder scenario), while the strong fluctuations of stoichiometry due to increasing doping can rapidly increase the superconducting transition temperature of the sample even to the value of Tc⋆∼2Tc (dense disorder leading to strong inhomogeneity). This phenomenon seems to be characteristic of high-temperature superconductors and superconducting heavy fermions, and recently have received renewed attention. We experimentally documented the stronger lattice stiffening of the inhomogeneous superconducting phase Tc⋆ in respect to the bulk Tc one and proposed a model that explains the Tc⋆>Tc behavior in the series of nonmagnetic skutterudite-related compounds.
