A Gram-staining-negative, non-motile, catalase- and oxidase-positive, facultatively aerobic bacterium, designated IMCC1962T was isolated from a surface seawater sample from the Yellow Sea. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain IMCC1962T belonged to the genus Eionea, forming a robust clade with members of the genus, and was most closely related to Eionea nigra (97.3  % similarity). DNA–DNA relatedness between strain IMCC1962T and Eionea nigra DSM 19752T was 21.8–26.3  %, which indicated strain IMCC1962T represents a novel genomic species of the genus Eionea. The G+C content of the DNA of strain IMCC1962T was 48.7 mol%. The major isoprenoid quinone was ubiquinone Q-8 and major fatty acids were C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c (43.4  %), C18 : 1ω7c and/or C18 : 1ω6c (19.3  %) and C16 : 0 (17.2  %). The polar lipids found in strain IMCC1962T were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, aminophospholipid, unknown phospholipid, and four unknown polar lipids. Strain IMCC1962T and Eionea nigra DSM 19752T differed from each other in diverse phenotypic characteristics including motility, colony colour and enzyme activities. On the basis of phenotypic and genotypic data, strain IMCC1962T ( = KACC 17481T = NBRC 109703T) represents a novel species of the genus Eionea, for which the name Eionea flava sp. nov. is proposed. An emended description of the genus Eionea is also provided.

A yellow-pigmented, Gram-stain-negative and facultatively anaerobic bacterium, designated FB218T, was isolated from a sediment sample collected from a sea cucumber culture pond in Rongcheng, China (36° 54′ 36″ N 122° 14′ 34″ E). Cells of strain FB218T were slender, gliding, catalase-positive and oxidase-negative. Optimal growth occurred at 30 °C, pH 6.5–7.0 and in medium containing 2–3 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain FB218T belonged to the genus Carboxylicivirga, family Marinilabiliaceae. The predominant fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C15 : 0. MK-7 was the main respiratory quinone. The major polar lipids of strain FB218T were two unidentified lipids and a phospholipid. The genomic DNA G+C content was 40.0 mol%. Based on the distinct phylogenetic position and the combination of physiological and phenotypic characteristics, strain FB218T represents a novel species of the genus Carboxylicivirga, for which the name Carboxylicivirga linearis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is FB218T ( = KCTC 42254T = MCCC 1H00106T). An emended description of the genus Carboxylicivirga is also provided.

A Gram-staining-negative, non-gliding, orange-pigmented bacterial strain, designated HMF2925T, was isolated from fresh water in Korea. The phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HMF2925T formed a distinct lineage within the genus Emticicia. Strain HMF2925T was closely related to Emticicia oligotrophica DSM 17448T (95.5 %) and Emticicia ginsengisoli Gsoil 085T (94.1 %). The major fatty acids of strain HMF2925T were summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω6c and/or C16 : 1ω7c), iso-C15 : 0, C16 : 1ω5c and C16 : 0.The major polar lipids of strain HMF2925T were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, an unidentified glycolipid, two unidentified amino lipids and three unidentified polar lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain HMF2925T was 36.5 mol%. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HMF2925T represents a novel species of the genus Emticicia, for which the name Emticicia aquatica sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HMF2925T ( = KCTC 42574T = CECT 8858T).

A non-motile and rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain 02SUJ3T, was isolated from freshwater collected from the Juam Reservoir (Republic of Korea). Cells were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, oxidase-negative and catalase-positive. The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 1 G and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The strain contained MK-7 as the major isoprenoid quinone. The main polar lipid was phosphatidylethanolamine. The DNA G+C content was 46.4 mol%. A phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain 02SUJ3T forms an independent lineage within the genus Flavisolibacter with low sequence similarity to Flavisolibacter ginsengiterrae Gsoil 492T and Flavisolibacter ginsengisoli Gsoil 643T (95.7 %). Phenotypic characteristics distinguished strain 02SUJ3T from members of the genus Flavisolibacter . On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain 02SUJ3T is considered to represent a novel species, for which the name Flavisolibacter rigui sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 02SUJ3T ( = JCM 17515T = KCTC 23328T). An emended description of the genus Flavisolibacter is also provided.

A Gram-staining-negative, yellow-pigmented bacterial strain, motile by gliding, designated HME7102T, was isolated from lagoon water in Korea. The phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HME7102T formed a distinct lineage within the genus Flavobacterium . Strain HME7102T was closely related to Flavobacterium cheniae NJ-26T (94.5 %), Flavobacterium dongtanense LW30T (94.4 %) and Flavobacterium gelidilacus LMG 21477T (94.2 %). The major fatty acids of strain HME7102T were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 1 G, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and iso-C15 : 0 3-OH. The major polyamine was homospermidine and the major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, one unidentified aminolipid and two unidentified polar lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain HME7102T was 36.5 mol%. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HME7102T represents a novel species of the genus Flavobacterium , for which the name Flavobacterium jumunjinense sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HME7102T ( = KCTC 23618T = CECT 7955T). Emended descriptions of F. cheniae , F. dongtanense and F. gelidilacus are also proposed.

A non-motile, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain WPCB133T, was isolated from freshwater collected from the Woopo wetland (Republic of Korea). Cells were Gram-reaction-negative, aerobic and catalase- and oxidase-positive. The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C15 : 0. The strain contained MK-7 as the major isoprenoid quinone. The DNA G+C content was 47 mol%. A phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain WPCB133T forms an independent lineage within the genus Mucilaginibacter. Strain WPCB133T was distantly related to Mucilaginibacter kameinonensis SCKT (94.7 % sequence similarity), Mucilaginibacter paludis TPT56T (94.5 %) and Mucilaginibacter gracilis TPT18T (94.4 %). Phenotypic characteristics distinguished strain WPCB133T from members of the genus Mucilaginibacter. On the basis of evidence presented in this study, strain WPCB133T represents a novel species of the genus Mucilaginibacter, for which the name Mucilaginibacter rigui sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is WPCB133T (=KCTC 12534T =NBRC 101115T). An emended description of the genus Mucilaginibacter is also proposed.

A Gram-negative, chemoheterotrophic, yellow-pigmented, non-motile, flexirubin-negative, facultatively anaerobic bacterium, designated strain IMCC1412T, was isolated from a marine polychaete Periserrula leucophryna inhabiting a tidal flat of the Yellow Sea, Korea. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain IMCC1412T was most closely related to Kordia algicida, with a sequence similarity of 96.7 %, but only distantly related to other species in the family Flavobacteriaceae (<92 % similarity). The G+C content of the DNA was 37.3 mol%. The strain contained MK-6 as the major respiratory quinone and phosphatidylethanolamine, unidentified aminolipids and unidentified polar lipids as the major polar lipids. On the basis of phylogenetic distinctiveness and differential phenotypic characteristics, strain IMCC1412T ( = KACC 14311T = KCTC 22801T = NBRC 106077T) should be assigned to the genus Kordia as the type strain of a novel species, for which the name Kordia periserrulae sp. nov. is proposed. An emended description of the genus Kordia is also presented.

A novel Gram-staining-negative, moderately halophilic and strictly aerobic bacterium, designated strain 112T, was isolated from a tidal flat at Taean, Korea. Cells were catalase- and oxidase-positive ovoids to rods and did not produce bacteriochlorophyll a. Optimum growth of strain 112T was observed at 30 °C, at pH 6.5–7.5 and in the presence of 2–4 % (w/v) NaCl. The major cellular fatty acids were summed feature 8 (C18 : 1ω7c and/or C18 : 1ω6c) and C16 : 0 and Q-10 was detected as the predominant ubiquinone. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, an unidentified aminolipid and three unidentified lipids. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain 112T was 58.2 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain 112T formed a phyletic lineage within the genus Roseovarius of the class Alphaproteobacteria . Strain 112T was most closely related to Roseovarius mucosus DFL-24T, with 96.52 % similarity. On the basis of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and molecular properties, strain 112T represents a novel species of the genus Roseovarius , for which the name Roseovarius lutimaris sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 112T ( = KACC 16185T = JCM 17743T).

A halotolerant, obligately alkaliphilic bacterium, R-2T, was isolated from the skin of a rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), a freshwater fish. The strain is Gram-positive, ferments several carbohydrates, is rod-shaped and motile by peritrichous flagella and produces ellipsoidal spores. The isolate grows at pH 9–10 but not at pH 7–8. This micro-organism grows in 0–22 % (w/v) NaCl at pH 10. Its major cellular fatty acids are iso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0, the major isoprenoid quinone is MK-7 and the DNA G+C content is 38·5 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicates that strain R-2T is a member of the genus Oceanobacillus. DNA–DNA hybridization reveals low relatedness between the isolate and Oceanobacillus iheyensis (21·0 %). On the basis of phenotypic characteristics, phylogenetic data and DNA–DNA relatedness data, the isolate should be designated as a novel species, for which the name Oceanobacillus oncorhynchi sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is R-2T (=JCM 12661T=NCIMB 14022T).

A Gram-stain-positive, aerobic bacterium, designated strain BZ41T, was isolated from hydrocarbon-contaminated soil. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain BZ41T was related to members of the genus Agromyces and showed highest similarity with the type strain of Agromyces ramosus (96.8 %). The morphological, biochemical and chemotaxonomic characteristics of the new isolate were consistent with the description of the genus Agromyces. The cell-wall peptidoglycan of strain BZ41T was of type B2γ and contained the amino acids 2,4-diaminobutyric acid, alanine, glycine and glutamic acid in an approximate molar ratio of 1.8 : 0.7 : 1.1 : 1.0. The predominant cell-wall sugars were galactose, glucose, mannose and rhamnose. Strain BZ41T had MK-12 and MK-11 as major menaquinones and contained anteiso-C15 : 0 and anteiso-C17 : 0 as major fatty acids. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain BZ41T was 69.7 mol%. On the basis of phenotypic characteristics and genotypic analysis, strain BZ41T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Agromyces, for which the name Agromyces bauzanensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is BZ41T (=DSM 22275T =CGMCC 1.8984T).

Two bacterial strains, designated KV-962T and KV-963, were isolated from soil collected from a field in Japan. Cells of both strains were Gram-staining-positive, non-spore-forming, short rod-shaped and motile. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that these strains were related to Conexibacter woesei DSM 14684T, with a similarity value of 98.6 %. These strains possessed MK-7 (H4) as the sole menaquinone and contained C18 : 1ω9c, C17 : 1ω6c and iso-C16 : 0 as the major fatty acids. On the basis of genotypic and phenotypic characteristics, strain KV-962T and KV-963 were indicated as a novel species of the genus Conexibacter , for which the name Conexibacter arvalis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is KV-962T ( = DSM 23288T  = NBRC 106558T)
