Acceptability and Feasibility of Perioperative Music Listening: A Rapid Qualitative Inquiry Approach

Abstract Perioperative music decreases pain, anxiety, and analgesia requirements while increasing patient satisfaction. We investigated the acceptability of perioperative music at a women’s and children’s hospital in Singapore, seeking to uncover barriers and facilitators to implementation in routine practice over a 12-week period. We used an undergraduate-led Rapid Qualitative Inquiry approach that includes data collection from multiple sources, iterative analysis, and additional data collection when necessary. Participants consisted of anesthesiologists and nurses working in the preoperative area, operating room, and postoperative recovery areas. In Stage 1, nurses and anesthesiologists answered a survey assessing attitudes and knowledge about perioperative music and attended a presentation introducing the intervention. In Stage 2, the results of the Stage 1 survey were disclosed, and nurses and anesthesiologists completed a second survey (Stage 1 survey questions with an additional query about implementation). Twenty-nine nurses were interviewed with semi-structured questions on barriers and facilitators to implementation. In Stage 3, nurses retook the Stage 2 survey after one month of implementation. The implementation of perioperative music was both acceptable and feasible in Singapore. The nurses’ and anesthesiologists’ acceptability increased over time with mostly positive qualitative feedback. Implementation barriers, including patient interest, timing of patient turnover, and added staff workload, appeared minor and could potentially be overcome by utilizing the intervention in the preoperative instead of postoperative area, deploying music in operating rooms with slower turnover, and evenly distributing staff workload. Local implementation stakeholders may make additional recommendations for scaling-up perioperative music interventions to fit other workflows while improving the patient experience.

Data collection is a centerpiece in qualitative research. The use of multiple sources in data collection can improve conceptual interest of a qualitative inquiry and make it interesting.  Online focus groups (OFGs) as a complementary choice to make the research project easier and engaging. Selection of the most appropriate method of data collection is essential for ensuring the trustworthiness. This commentary is noted to important issues involved in using OFG discussions for data collection in qualitative health research. In order to determine the suitability of data collection techniques, qualitative researchers are recommended for analysis the question, the research context, the preference of participants, technical issues, the advantages and disadvantages of each method, and provide authentic data to enrich their project by applying innovative approaches.

This study aims to produce teaching materials in the form of islamic mathematics learning module through guided inquiry approach in the setting set subject. This research method is Borg and Gall method that modified by Sugiyono. Stages performed only from stage 1 to stage 7 of potential and problems, data collection, product design, product validation, product revision, product trial, product revision. Based on the validation of material experts obtained the results of 80.83%, media experts obtained 88.89%, linguists obtained 80.95%, Islamic scholars obtained 76.67% thus developed products declared eligible for use. After validation of the product to the expert lecturer then the product is tested by educator in the field of mathematics study and the learner. Response educator in the field of mathematics study Obtained percentage of 85.49% with the criteria "Very Interesting", to determine the response of learners to the module developed conducted extensive trials to learners, with the results of the response learners show 89.01% percentage with criteria "Very Interesting ". The result of the assessment of the user response states that the module developed is very interesting and feasible to be used in the learning process.

Aim/Purpose: This study explores how women-led SMMEs in developing countries, specifically in the Mozambican context, institutionalise e-commerce by focusing on the ongoing interaction between the SMME, its context, and process of e-commerce institutionalization. Background: It is believed that institutionalization of e-commerce provides significant benefits of unlimited access to new markets, and access to new, improved, inexpensive and convenient operational methods of transacting. Although prior studies have examined the adoption of e-commerce and the enabling and constraining factors, few have examined e-commerce (i) institutionalization (that is, post-adoption), and (ii) from a gender perspective. This study aims to respond to this paucity in the literature by exploring how women-led SMMEs in developing countries, specifically in the Mozambican context, institutionalise e-commerce. Methodology: The study follows a qualitative inquiry approach for both data collection and analysis. Semi-structured interviews were adopted for data collection and thematic analysis implemented on the data. SMMEs were purposively sampled to allow for the selection of information-rich SMMEs for study and specifically those that have gone through the experience of adoption and in some cases have institutionalized e-commerce. Contribution: The empirical findings explain how the institutionalization process from interactive e-commerce to transactive e-commerce unfolds in the Mozambican context. Findings: Transition from interactive to transactive e-commerce is firstly influenced by (i) the type of business the SMME is engaged in; and (ii) customer and trading partner’s readiness for e-commerce. Secondly, the transition process is influenced by the internal factors of (i) manager’s demographic factors; (ii) mimetic behaviour arising from exposure to (foreign) organizations in the same industry that have mature forms of e-commerce; (iii) the business networks developed with some of these organizations that have mature forms of e-commerce; (iv) access to financial resources; and (v) social media technologies. Thirdly, the process is influenced by external contextual factors of (i) limited government intervention towards e-commerce endeavors; (ii) limited to lack of financial institutions readiness for e-commerce; (iii) lack of local available IT expertise; (iv) consumer’s low purchasing power due to economic recessions; (vi) international competitive pressure; and (vii) sociocultural practices. Recommendations for Practitioners: The study provides SMME managers, practitioners, and other stakeholders concerned with women’s development with a better understanding of the process in order to develop appropriate policies and interventions that are suitable for the reality of women-led SMMEs in Mozambique and other developing countries with similar contextual characteristics. Recommendation for Researchers: The study contributes to the existing debate of e-commerce and the use of ICT for development in developing countries by providing a distinct contribution of the institutionalization process and how the contextual structures influence this process. Impact on Society: Women-led SMME managers can learn from the different experiences, and compare their e-commerce efforts with SMMEs that were able to institutionalize and make strategies for improvements within their organizations. Future Research: The manner in which women-led SMMEs employ e-commerce requires further investigation to understand how issues related to gender, the cultural context, and different regions or countries impact this process.

In 2016, San Francisco (SF) implemented the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) program, a harm reduction–based pre-booking diversion system for people who violate drug laws and/or are engaged in sex work. LEAD is set apart from existing diversion programs, as it uses police as point of entry. Prior LEAD studies indicate some success in reducing recidivism and improving life outcomes. However, less is known about program implementation, including barriers and facilitators. Relying on policy documents, interviews, and focus groups, this study describes the LEAD SF’s development, operations, adaptations, and challenges. It also identifies the unique context of LEAD SF that led to implementation barriers and facilitators. Results show that SF experienced success in collaboration, relationship building, and client connections to services but experienced challenges in securing and maintaining police officer buy-in and keeping clear and open lines of communication regarding LEAD goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. This led to the termination of LEAD SF in 2020.

Abstract Background Cirrhosis is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in individuals with gastrointestinal disease. Multiple care gaps exist for hospitalized patients with cirrhosis, resulting in high rates of re-hospitalization (e.g. 44% at 90 days in Alberta). The Cirrhosis Care Alberta (CCAB) is a 4-year multi-component pragmatic trial with an aim to reduce acute-care utilization by implementing an electronic order set and supporting education across eight hospital sites in Alberta. Aims As part of the pre-implementation evaluation, this qualitative study analyzed data from provider focus groups to identify barriers and facilitators to implementation. Methods We conducted focus groups at eight hospital sites with a total of 54 healthcare providers (3–12 per site). A semi-structured interview guide based upon constructs of the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) and Normalization Process Theory (NPT) frameworks was used to guide the focus groups. Focus groups were recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data was analyzed thematically and inductively. Results Five major themes emerged across all eight sites: (i) understanding past implementation experiences, (ii) resource challenges, (iii) competing priorities among healthcare providers, (iv) system challenges, and (v) urban versus rural differences. Site-specific barriers included perceived lack of patient flow, time restraints, and concerns about the quality and quantity of past implementation interventions. Facilitators included passionate project champions, and an ample feedback process. Conclusions Focus groups were useful for identifying pre-implementation barriers and facilitators of an electronic orders set. Findings from this study are being refined to address the influence of COVID-19, and the data will be used to inform the intervention roll-out at each of the sites. Memes are a prominent feature of global life in the 21st century. The author asserts that memes are significant to current and future qualitative research. In particular, the text establishes memes as: (a) part of everyday communication, expression, and explanation, thus useful in qualitative research; (b) valuable cultural units and symbols; (c) forms of rapport building and cultivating relational research; (d) approaches that bolster and sustain remote data collection; (e) methods that infuse agency, humor, and creativity into the research process. The author then showcases distinctive ways memes can be effectively incorporated in qualitative research pursuits and publications. The article concludes with the necessity of data collection and representation approaches that advance the meaningfulness and cultural-relevance of qualitative inquiry.

Background and Purpose Our nation's suboptimal health care quality and unsustainable costs can be linked to the failure to implement evidence-based interventions. Implementation is the bridge between the decision to adopt a strategy and its sustained use in practice. The purpose of this case report is threefold: (1) to outline the historical implementation of an evidence-based quality improvement project, (2) to describe the program's future direction using a systems perspective to identify implementation barriers, and (3) to provide implications for the profession as it works toward closing the evidence-to-practice gap. Case Description The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Centers for Rehab Services is a large, multicenter physical therapy organization. In 2005, they implemented a Low Back Initiative utilizing evidence-based protocols to guide clinical decision making. Outcomes The initial implementation strategy used a multifaceted approach. Formative evaluations were used repeatedly to identify barriers to implementation. Barriers may exist outside the organization, they can be created internally, they may result from personnel, or they may be a direct function of the research evidence. Since the program launch, 3 distinct improvement cycles have been utilized to address identified implementation barriers. Discussion Implementation is an iterative process requiring evaluation, measurement, and refinement. During this period, behavior change is actualized as clinicians become increasingly proficient and committed to their use of new evidence. Successfully incorporating evidence into routine practice requires a systems perspective to account for the complexity of the clinical setting. The value the profession provides can be enhanced by improving the implementation of evidence-based strategies. Achieving this outcome will require a concerted effort in all areas of the profession. New skills will be needed by leaders, researchers, managers, and clinicians.

Purpose: Despite the known health benefits of physical activity (PA), few primary care pediatricians discuss, evaluate, or prescribe PA for children. The goal of this study was to examine pediatricians’ thoughts and practices related to child PA and the perceived facilitators and barriers to implementing PA evaluation and prescription in pediatric primary care clinics. Methods: The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research was used to explore implementation barriers and facilitators. A mixed-method design combined questionnaires and focus groups with 27 pediatricians. Results: Despite the pediatricians’ beliefs that PA is important for patients, there was wide practice variability in their approaches to discussing PA. Several perceived barriers to implementing PA evaluation and prescription were identified, including lack of knowledge and training, managing time for PA with multiple demands, the need for a team approach and simple PA tools and resources, support for patient tailoring of PA messaging, and a need for PA best practice champions. Conclusion: The identified barriers to implementing evidence in PA suggest several directions for improvement, including a care-team approach; quick, inexpensive, and simple PA tools; community PA partnerships; PA training in medical education; evidence-based strategies; and PA directories for families. These efforts could facilitate the implementation of PA best practices in pediatrics.

Abstrak       Pengabdian masyarakat ini diselenggarakan pada Masjid Jami’ Al-Hidayah yang berlokasi di Jl. Pondok Bambu Asri Raya No.10 RW.09 Kelurahan Pondok Bambu, Kecamatan Duren Sawit, Jakarta Timur. Penentuan masjid ini berasal dari permintaan dari pengawas masjid untuk membantu mencarikan cara bagaimana pelaporan keuangan yang efektif dan memiliki standar. Metode pelaksanaan pengabdian masyarakat ini diselenggarakan dengan serangkaian metode dalam 3 tahap, yaitu tahap pengumpulan data, tahap penyusunan dan implementasi teknis, dan tahap evaluasi. Pada tahap 1 dilakukan beberapa metode pengumpulan data, di antaranya: wawancara, observasi, dan pendokumentasian. Tahap 2 merupakan tahap penyusunan langkah-langkah pelaporan dan implementasi. Setelah memperoleh data, mulailah disusun langkah-langkah pelaporan keuangan berdasarkan PSAK 45 dan kemudian dibuat format excel link-nya sesuai dengan bagan alir kegiatan keuangan masjid. Setelah itu dicobakan dan dilakukan pendampingan terhadap pengurus yang akan menggunakan sistem akuntansi. Tahap 3 adalah tahap evaluasi yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat keberhasilan penerapan dan kenyamanan pemakai sistem akuntansi. Kata Kunci:  Masjid; Pelaporan Keuangan; Excel Accounting.   Abstract       This community service was held at the Jami 'Al-Hidayah Mosque, located on Jl. Pondok Bambu Asri Raya No.10 RW.09 Pondok Bambu Village, Duren Sawit District, East Jakarta. The determination of this mosque came from a request from the mosque supervisor to help find a way of how to provide effective and standardized financial reporting. This method of implementing community service is carried out by a series of methods in 3 stages, namely the data collection stage, the technical preparation and implementation stage, and the evaluation stage. In stage 1, several data collection methods were carried out, including: interviews, observation, and documentation. Stage 2 is the stage of preparing the reporting and implementation steps. After obtaining the data, begin to compile the steps for financial reporting based on PSAK 45 and then create an excel link format according to the flow chart of mosque financial activities. After that, it is tested and provided assistance to the management who will use the accounting system. Stage 3 is the evaluation stage which aims to determine the level of success of the application and the comfort of the accounting system users. Keywords: Mosque; Finance report; Excel Accounting.

Background: World Health Organization Surgical Safety Checklist demonstrated a significant reduction in both morbidity and mortality. Objectives: This study aimed to find out the feasibility of implementation of WHO Surgical safety checklist in the routine practice, to ensure the teams follow critical safety steps, consistency in patient safety, and to maintain a culture that values achieving it, to assess the pre-operative status and post-operative quality of recovery among the patients undergoing surgery. Methodology: It is a prospective and observational study. A total of 65 patients of age group 18 and above were included in the study. The data was collected by filling the patient medical record sheet. Result: A total of 65 patients were included in the study. 64.62% were male, 35.38% were female. Out of 65 patients 61.54% experienced pre-operative anxiety; of which 20% of patients (n=9) showed very fast to fast recovery, 27.5% of patients (n=11) showed moderate recovery) and 52.5% of patients (n=21) showed slow to very slow recovery. Conclusion: Implementation of the WHO surgical safety checklist may improve miscommunications between the OR team, avoid unexpected errors ((Improving teamwork and communication). Appointing a staff or member of the OR team with the responsibility to check the checklist may improve the feasibility to implement the WHO SSC. The level of pre-operative anxiety greatly influences postoperative recovery. Thus, the Surgical and Anaesthetic team must assess the patient's pre-operative anxiety and take the necessary step before surgery.
