The current concern about the liberation of the oppressed, about the social revolution which is to transform the present order, about the counterviolence opposed to the violence which the existing order produces—and with which it defends itself—have all led many Christians to ask themselves about the attitude of Jesus regarding the political situation of his time. The question may surprise us. If so, it is because we take it for granted that Jesus was not interested in political life: his mission was purely religious.

The author considers the process of nucleation and formation of the ideas of unity and independence of Ukraine among Galician youth in the late 19th - early 20th centuries. Emphasis is placed on the circumstances and socio-cultural and political background that influenced the formation of these ideas in Galician society. The author has identified the factors that stimulated the national self-identification of Ukrainian youth - high school and university students. Spreading and popularization of the works of Ukrainian poets and writers from the Dnieper region, especially Taras Shevchenko, as a symbol of Ukrainian lands unity in the early 20th century, cultural and educational activities of the secret students' clubs, students' interest in the political life of the region, participation in it despite government ban fostered youth awareness of being a single national organism. As a result, at the beginning of the 20th century, Ukrainian identity became appropriate for a growing number of students. This is evidenced by the gradual displacement from use among youth of ethnonyms "Rusyn," "Ruthenian" and their replacement by the name "Ukrainian". The appearance of the radical movement, the nationalization of its youth wing, and the clear formulation of the purpose – the political independence of the Ukrainian nation, had a significant influence on the formation of independence and unity ideas. The study demonstrated that the publication of Yulian Bachynsky's work "Ukraina Irredenta," its considerable popularity among students, the struggle for the creation of Ukrainian university in Lviv contributed to the establishment of ideas of independence and unity among the youth as the highest goal of the national and political aspirations of Ukrainians. Keywords: Unity, independence, youth, self-identification, Rusyn, Ukrainian, Galicia.

Political philosophy or science first emerged in response to certain contradictions in political life that thoughtful citizens could not but face. Nowhere is this process better portrayed than in Thucydides, who of all great students of politics remains closest to the perspective of practice, at the same time showing how practice points us toward a place of critical distance from politics. The Greek political world, like all prescientific worlds, acknowledged certain gods who, as rulers, made demands on humankind. But because these were neither the only, nor in practice the most insistent, demands made on humankind, the question necessarily arose as to the gods' status in the event of conflict—as to the relative necessity of these divine demands. From this followed the further question—crucial for the emergence of political science or philosophy—as to whether the political world was ruled indeed by the gods or by necessity.

Abstract As an influential scholar, the Ming 明 Neo-Confucian master Wang Yangming 王陽明 (1472–1529) was also active in the political world. While showing philosophical ingenuity, Wang launched an ideological movement which reached beyond Neo-Confucian discourse and into the social and political spheres. By promoting his xinxue 心學 teachings, Wang aimed to change Ming political life through fostering a moral retrenchment among future officials. To achieve his goals, Wang Yangming implemented several strategies, such as turning to humble local literati for a following, teaching them as a sitting official, and supporting nonofficial academies with his political power. These strategies succeeded to some extent, in part because the Ming court had relaxed the ideological intolerance of the early Ming. The real-world background of Wang Yangming's success can be further explored by comparing Wang with his two predecessors, Xue Xuan 薛瑄 (1389–1464) and Wu Yubi 吳與弼 (1391–1469).

AbstractIn the light of the emerging global ecumene there is an ongoing intellectual discourse that focuses on the quest for a reorientation of political theorizing. It challenges the more or less canonized approaches to the understanding of political life and thought that dominate Western mainstream political and social science. This essay critically explores the epistemological assumptions underlying the prevalent paradigm of socio-political analysis, and points out its weakness in coming to grips with the multi-civilizational cosmos of human self-understanding which makes up the historico-political world. It argues that a genuine hermeneutical science is needed in order to restate the meaningful pattern of human self-interpretation across cultures and civilizations in its historical depth and global reach. It takes as its starting point the rise of the great civilizations in the axial times and their respective visions of order which still shape modernity. These post-axial visions, various as they were in appearance and content, merged with political power to provide the meaning-creating symbolic forms of societal self-understanding, thus providing society with a logic of order. This essay defines the common ground of the intercivilizational modality of human existence in history and society as the proper subject of comparative political theorizing, insofar as it intends to bring to our attention the essence of the political in all of its historical modalities.

Politics is an activity in a system or State that involves the process of determining the purposeof the system. Political life in a country especially Indonesia is very complex. The appearanceof women in the political world has been going on from ancient times starting from the days of thekingdoms in the archipelago. The equality of women’s rights in various fields of life is an agenda in this day and age. Theachievements and skills shown by women have led to the notion that there are not many differencesbetween men. His achievements and skills can be seen from the role of women in political life inour country. Strength in the form of toughness, firmness as well as being a condition for becoming aleader. The burden and responsibility of a woman leader is greater than men’s responsibility, wherewomen play a dual role who also has responsibilities both housewives and other female responsibilities.Alignment between women and men is an effort that is not in vain if women try according to theirabilities, to be able to compete with men in accordance with their femininity. From this, many womenhave barriers to entering the political arena. Starting from a lack of awareness to participate in politics. To overcome the obstacles that women have in politics and must make efforts to increase women’sparticipation in the political arena by providing education from an early age, so that women canunderstand. The involvement of women in the political world is still very unbalanced, therefore men’spolicies are lacking in a gender perspective so that decisions often do not favor women, do not payattention to women and do not make women more developed.

Women today are considered to be outside the political and administrative power structures and their participation in the decision-making process is non-existent. As far as their participation in the political life is concerned they are still on the margins. The existence of patriarchal society in Lebanon as well as the absence of governmental policies and procedures that aim at helping women and enhancing their political participation has made it very difficult for women to be accepted as leaders and to be granted votes in elections (UNIFEM, 2002).This above quote is taken from a report that was prepared to assess the progress made regarding the status of Lebanese women both on the social and governmental levels in light of the Beijing Platform for Action – the name given to the provisions of the Fourth Conference on Women held in Beijing in 1995. The above quote describes the slow progress achieved by Lebanese women in view of the ambitious goal that requires that the proportion of women occupying administrative or political positions in Lebanon should reach 30 percent of thetotal by the year 2005!
