On the Flat-Band Potential of n-Type Cadmium Telluride in Alkaline Selenide, Polyselenide Electrolytes

The flat-band potential Efb of n-CdTe in alkaline K2Se solution was determined by the Mott-Schottky technique as a function of properties of the crystal and electrolyte. The experimental value, c.- 2.0 V v. s.c.e., is more negative than the value calculated by assuming the absence of localized surface charge, -0.35 V v. s.c.e. For a given electrolyte, Epb depended on the crystal orientation, and became more negative in the order (111), (110), (111). These results are consistent with specific adsorption of anionic selenide species on surface cadmium atoms. For a freshly prepared CdTe electrode, Efb depended on the selenide ion concentration in a Nernstian manner, consistent with sub-monolayer adsorption of HSe-. In contrast, when electrodes had been exposed to selenide electrolytes for several days, Efb was less dependent on the selenide ion concentration, in some cases being constant over four orders of magnitude of [Se2-]. Such results were consistent either with saturation of the surface with adsorbed ions, or with pinning. As the electrolyte was oxidized, Ub increased linearly with Eredox, reached a maximum value at -0.81 V v. s.c.e., and then decreased, so that neither the ideal model nor the Fermi level pinning model applied. Models which assumed adsorption only of HSe- were inconsistent with the observed behaviour, but the results were explained quantitatively by a model which assumed the competitive adsorption of HSe- and Se on the semiconductor surface. Such a model was consistent also with the independence of Efb and the total selenide concentration observed in some experiments. .The largest built-in potential observed was 1.23 V. An improved method of preparing CdTe electrodes is described.

Modification of several semiconductors material surfaces with H4SiW12O40•nH2O have been carried out to produce an increase in the open circuit photopotential at the semiconductor/electrolyte interface (Voc) without changing the flat-band potential. The augmentation of Voc is shown to be attributed to a decrease of the minority carriers recombination at the semiconductor/electrolyte interface along with the suppression of Fermi level pinning. The enhancement of Voc and the electrocatalytic activity of the hydrogen evolution reaction in acidic medium of the derivatized electrodes is attributed to the Fermi level unpinning. Chapter 9 is concerned with social and political behavior. Even in the context of moral philosophy, Jewish philosophers discuss issues within the wider context of a rational scientific perspective. This chapter begins with specific moral codes developed by Jewish thinkers, focusing in particular upon the works of Ibn Gabirol, Baḥya ibn Paquda, Maimonides, and Crescas. Can there be ethical dictates independent of the commandments? The rabbis already worried whether there existed a domain of “right behavior” that pre-dates, or exists independently of, divine commandment. Does Aristotle’s doctrine of the mean apply to divine law? Furthermore, can all humans achieve intellectual perfection? Is the road the same, and open, to all? And is there only one road to ultimate felicity, or are there many routes? The chapter ends with a discussion of whether human felicity can be achieved in this life, and whether the prophet best represents the ideal model for such achievement.

This paper aims to identify the challenges in the implementation of shared decision-making (SDM) when the doctor and the patient have a difference of opinion. It analyses the preconditions of the resolution of this difference of opinion by using an analytical and normative framework known in the field of argumentation theory as the ideal model of critical discussion. This analysis highlights the communication skills and attitudes that both doctors and patients must apply in a dispute resolution-oriented communication. Questions arise over the methods of empowerment of doctors and patients in these skills and attitudes as the preconditions of SDM. Overall, the paper highlights aspects in which research is needed to design appropriate programmes of training, education and support in order to equip doctors and patients with the means to successfully engage in shared decision-making.

The author examines the “In Thee rejoiceth” icons as visual sources that make it possible to reconstruct the ideal model of medieval society in the Moscow culture of the late 15th and early 16th centuries. This icon type, which includes the scenes of “Human race” collective praying to the Mother of God, is of Russian origin. Unlike other works of that time typologically close to it (“The Intercession”, “The Congregation of Our Lady”, “The Congregation of All Saints”, etc.), the “In Thee rejoiceth” icons demonstrate a historical connection to religious and socio-cultural facts of the Muscovy state. They clearly express the idea of Muscovy enjoying special patronage of the Mother of God, whose cult was actively developed in Moscow, the city that, as was believed at the Grand Dukes’ court, inherited the traditions and the spiritual authority of Constantinople. The depiction of the “Human race” in the “In Thee rejoiceth” icons can be viewed as a metaphorical image of the capital city community consisting of different groups of clergy and laity. This image corresponded to the ideas of the authorities and the population of the Russian state that existed under Ivan III and Vasili III.

Buccal mucosa has recently received much attention as a potential route for systemic delivery of drugs, including biologics and vaccines. The aim of this work was to gain insight into the mechanism of fatty acids as buccal permeation enhancers, by studying the effect of a series of medium and long chain fatty acids on the permeation of a model high molecular weight and hydrophilic molecule, fluorescein isothiocyanate labelled dextran (FD-4, m.w. 4 kDa) across porcine esophageal epithelium. A parabolic relationship between fatty acid lipophilicity and enhancement was obtained, regardless of the presence and number of double bonds. The relationship, which resembles the well-known relationship between permeability and lipophilicity of transdermal delivery, presents a maximum value in correspondence of C10 (logP approx. 4). This is probably the ideal lipophilicity for the fatty acid to interact with the lipid domains of the mucosa. When the same analysis was performed on skin data, the same trend was observed, although the maximum value was reached for C12 (logP approx. 5), in agreement with the higher lipophilicity of the skin. The results obtained in the present work represent a significant advancement in the understanding of the mechanisms of action of fatty acids as buccal penetration enhancers.

Abstract Specialized studies show how a fighter should physically be, not just any fighter, but the one who possesses the qualities and features of the ideal model, i.e. those elements that define the near-perfect fighter. The demands of the modern battlefield impose a high quality human potential that provides a good basis for the selection and training of fighters. Resistance to physical, climate, season and weather condition demands, to the prolonged efforts fighting requires is one of the important conditions of success. The paper presents information with particular impact in optimizing exercise capacity for future officers of the land forces, emphasizing once again the idea that a high level of motric ability is an essential objective.

This study aims to produce: (1) Model of management program implementation in PERBASI (Indonesian Basketball Association) Tanggamus Regency, (2) Model of management system and basketball coaching in PERBASI Tanggamus Regency. This is a qualitative research study looking at different aspects of sport organization in this region. The research subjects are: (1) Branch manager of PERBASI Tanggamus (2) Manager of PERBASI Tanggamus (3) Sports agencies in the Tanggamus Regency, (4) athletes, coaches, communities. Data collection was performed by using observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis technique used was triangulation. The results showed that: (1) Branch manager of PERBASI in carrying out organizational management does not have a system of implementing the program, (2) The basketball coaching system at Tanggamus has not been designed to be sustainable, (3) The sports coaching system at Tanggamus is not running optimally. The management system of the organization, basketball and sports in Tanggamus Regency is not yet running well. Based on the results, it proposes an ideal model of sports management (1) the ideal model of basketball management in PERBASI Tanggamus, (2) the ideal model of a management system. The conclusion of the research states that the implementation of basketball management and coaching in Tanggamus Regency has not been programmed efficiently. Results of this research suggest that all parties involved in a basketball sports coaching system in Tanggamus Regency should cooperate in implementing management programs.
