The preparation of a series of new coordination compounds of bivalent nickel with the terdentate ligand 2,4,8-tri(2?-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine and various anions (Cl-, Br-, I-, CNS-, or ClO-4) is reported. Compounds having metal-ligand ratios of 1 : 2, 1 : 1, and 2 : 1 were isolated, and in the last case the possibility of simultaneous terdentate and bidentate behaviour is discussed. In all cases the compounds formed were high-spin with magnetic moments ranging between 3.1 and 3.3 B.M. In general, octahedral coordination is proposed for these compounds. The additional possibility of five-coordination in the case of the 1 : 1 complexes is discussed, but such coordination could not be confirmed by the investigations employed. The isolation of a series of coordination compounds containing a protonated form of the ligand is also reported.

Synthetic and characterization studies of manganese(11) complexes with tetrahydro-l,4-thiazin-3-one (tht) and thiazolidine-2-thione (ttz) are reported. The methods used for the characterization of the compounds include elementary analyses, molar conductances, magnetic moments and electronic and infrared spectroscopy. Assignments for the metal-ligand modes have also been made; the tht derivatives are coordinated through the oxygen atom, while the ttz derivatives are nitrogen-bonded in all the complexes. By use of infrared spectroscopy it has been possible distinguish whether or not the polyanions present in these derivatives are coordinated to the metal ion or are present as free ions. The wavelengths of the principal absorption peaks have been accounted for quantitatively in terms of the crystal field theory. The values of B and C obtained are significantly lower than the corresponding value for the free gaseous ion.

The paper presents the synthesis and characterization of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cd(II), Zn(II) and Hg(II) complexes with N1-[4-(4-bromo-phenylsulfonyl)-benzoyl]-N4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-thiosemicarbazide. The new compounds were characterized by IR, EPR, electronic spectroscopy, magnetic moments, thermo-gravimetric analysis and elemental analysis.

This is about synthesizing new complex combinations of Cu(II), Ni(II),Co(II), Zn(II) with aroylhydrazone ligand isonicotinoylhydrazone-2-aldehydefluorene (INHAF) made by condensation of isonicotinoylhydrazine with 2-aldehydefluorene. The complexes have been characterized by analytical data, IR, UV-Vis, NMR spectra, magnetic susceptibility values, thermal analysis and for the Cu(II) complex the ESR spectrum has been registered. For all complexes the biological activity against theStaphylo-coccus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebssiella pneumoniaebacteria has been investigated. The experimental data sustain stoichiometry of 1:2 (metal/ligand) for the Cu(II), Ni(II), Zn(II) complexes and of 1:1 for the complex with Co(II). The electronic spectra and the magnetic moments suggest octahedral stereochemistry at the complexes with Cu(II), Ni(II) and the tetrahedral geometry for the Co(II) complex. The INHAF ligand is coordinated bidentate by the O=C amide oxygen and the azomethine nitrogen in the complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II) and monodentate by the azomethine nitrogen in the complex of Zn(II).

In benzene solution at concentrations below 10-2 M, measurements of molecular weights, absorption spectra and the enthalpies of reaction with bases are all consistent with Ni(SOCNR2)2 (R = Pr or Bu) existing as an equilibrium between low-spin monomeric and high-spin dimeric, probably five-coordinate, species. Enthalpies of dimerization are about -55 kJ (g-atom Ni)-1 and dimerization constants increase from 250 l. mol-1 at about 5C to 1000 l. mol-1 at 30C, which shows that the entropy of dimerization is not temperature-invariant. Addition of bidentate bases to the monomer is quantitative with ΔH about -100 kJ mol-1. Addition of pyridine, 4-methylpyridine or piperidine occurs in two steps, giving high-spin adducts, first five-coordinate NiL2B then six-coordinate NiL2B2 with K1 ≈ K2, ΔH1 ≈ -100 and ΔH2 near zero. Comparisons are made with other low-spin nickel(II) complexes which form high-spin polymers or adducts.
