The Magobu Island No. 1 well, drilled by Endeavour Oil Company N.L. late in 1970, was located to test a large, northwest-trending, Mesozoic anticline at the mouth of the Fly River, Western Papua. The anticlinal trend was postulated to be coincident with an intra-Mesozoic strand line where massive lenticular sand bodies may have developed.The well penetrated 3,086 ft. of Pliocene and Miocene carbonates and 5,360 ft. of Lower Cretaceous and Jurassic elastics before bottoming in Carboniferous volcanics.Two massive sandstone units of particular significance, one of Lower Cretaceous age at a depth range of 4,265-4,775 ft., and the other of Middle Jurassic age at a depth range of 7,065-7,345 ft. were intersected. These clean, quartzose sandstones have excellent porosity and permeability but are salt-water saturated at the Magobu location.The electric log character, grain gradation, continuous dipmeter information, and depositional environment (determined by interpreting the lithologic sequence and faunal content of the Mesozoic) indicate that these sandstone units consist of northwest-trending barrier bar complexes. The basal member of the upper unit, in particular, is interpreted as having formed a barrier island.The seismic data support this interpretation with respect to both sandstone units. In addition, a second and thicker bar complex of similar trend, situated some 10 mi. down-dip to the northeast under Kiwai Island, is indicated by the seismic data and can be correlated with the upper sandstone unit at Magobu.Structural interpretations of the relationship between the upper barrier bar complexes at Magobu and Kiwai suggest that oil migrating up-dip would be trapped by the structurally lower bar build-up. This conclusion gives a lead to follow-up drilling in the search for oil-bearing sand trends.

ABSTRACT Offshore exploration in Kuwait commenced in 1961 with the award of a 5,600 square kilometre offshore concession to Shell. Some 6,300 kilometres of 3-fold analogue seismic were acquired in 1961, and 3 wells were drilled during 1962 and 1963. In the same period, Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) also drilled their first 3 offshore exploration wells. In 1981, KOC embarked upon a second offshore exploration campaign, acquiring some 6,000 kilometres of seismic data and, during 1983 and 1984, drilling two wells. None of these wells was a commercial discovery. Between 1995 and 1997, an integrated team of KOC and Shell explorers undertook a review of the hydrocarbon potential of Offshore Kuwait. In order to establish an integrated sequence-stratigraphical framework for the prospective Lower to Middle Cretaceous interval, a quantitative biostratigraphical study was made. Some 790 biostratigraphical analyses (10% core samples; 90% cuttings) from eleven wells were carried out: the nanno-fossil data was particularly important in providing accurate chronostratigraphical calibration, and this data has been used to constrain a “Time-Rock Synopsis”. KOC’s lithostratigraphical nomenclature proved to be basically sound and has been maintained as the basis for the present stratigraphical framework. However, the study revealed the existence of two substantial and hitherto unsuspected hiati: one between the Ratawi and Zubair formations of Early Valanginian to Mid-Hauterivian age; and the other, representing the whole of the Early Albian, within the Burgan Formation. This latter result, if it can be further substantiated by more exhaustive study in the onshore area, would neccessitate a re-definition of the Burgan Formation and the erection of a new formation to describe the clastic sequence of Late Aptian age which lies between the Early Albian hiatus and the top of the Shu’aiba Formation, and which has hitherto been included within the Lower Burgan Formation.

Abstract —We consider results of measurements of thermal conductivity, porosity, and permeability for 780 samples of Mesozoic sandstones and siltstones from the cores of 50 wells drilled in three southern regions of the West Siberian Plate (Novosibirsk and Tomsk regions, Surgut region of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area). The thermal conductivity of the samples was measured twice: in dry and in water-saturated states. It has been established that the thermal conductivity of water-saturated rocks is on average 20–40% higher. The thermal conductivities of dry and water-saturated samples show stable correlations between each other and with the sample porosity and permeability. These correlations can be used for the approximate estimation of the thermal conductivity of water-saturated rocks from the measured thermal conductivity of dry samples or even from the porosity values. The relationship between thermal conductivity and porosity can be used for the rapid assessment of rock porosity from the measured thermal conductivity of the core.

Abstract Objective: Malignant Mesothelioma (MM) is a rare malignancy of the serosa membranes with a high mortality rate and long latent period. The relationship between a group of mineral fibers known as asbestos and mesothelioma is now well accepted in which people can be exposed to these fibers by various means during their lifetime.Method: In this study, we analyzed the demographic features and occupations of confirmed cases of MM in Shiraz, southern Iran along with the follow-up of the patients' disease from 2008 to 2018.Results: Among the 35 confirmed cases of MM with an average of 61 years, 9 (25.7%) were female and 26 (74.3%) were male. At the time 12 patients have already died with a mean of 11.26 months after diagnosis. Our results showed a higher prevalence of MM among housekeepers and oil company employees. Compared to the control group, we concluded that employees of the oil company are at a high risk of MM in Iran. Also, individuals living near refinery locations had higher MM rates.Conclusion: Exposure with asbestos, either through occupation or proximate living location to a source, had a significant correlation with MM occurrence. MM can be prevented if asbestos exposure is reduced.

Summary Aim: Tumor scintigraphy with 201-TICI is an established diagnostic method in the follow-up of differentiated thyroid cancer. We investigated the relationship between thyroglobulin (Tg) level and tumor detectability. Subject and methods: We analyzed the scans of 122 patients (66 patients with proven tumor). The patient population was divided into groups with Tg above (N = 33) and below (N = 33) 5 ng/ml under TSH suppression or above (N = 33) and below (N = 33) 50 ng/ml under TSH stimulation. Tumor detectability was compared by ROC-analysis (True-Positive-Fraction test, specificity 90%). Results: There was no significant difference (sensitivity 75% versus 64%; p = 0.55) for patients above and below 5 ng/ml under TSH suppression and a just significant difference (sensitivity 80% versus 58%; p = 0.04) for patients above and below 50 ng/ml under TSH stimulation. In 18 patients from our sample with tumor, Tg under TSH suppression was negative, but 201-TICI-scan was able to detect tumor in 12 patients. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate only a moderate dependence of tumor detectability on Tg level, probably without significant clinical relevance. Even in patients with slight Tg elevation 201-TICI scintigraphy is justified.

<b>Objective:</b> As diabetes technology use in youth increases worldwide, inequalities in access may exacerbate disparities in hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). We hypothesized an increasing gap in diabetes technology use by socioeconomic status (SES) would be associated with increased HbA1c disparities. <p> </p> <p><b>Research Design and Methods: </b>Participants aged <18 years with diabetes duration ≥1 year in the Type 1 Diabetes Exchange (T1DX, US, n=16,457) and Diabetes Prospective Follow-up (DPV, Germany, n=39,836) registries were categorized into lowest (Q1) to highest (Q5) SES quintiles. Multiple regression analyses compared the relationship of SES quintiles with diabetes technology use and HbA1c from 2010-2012 and 2016-2018. </p> <p> </p> <p><b>Results: </b>HbA1c was higher in participants with lower SES (in 2010-2012 & 2016-2018, respectively: 8.0% & 7.8% in Q1 and 7.6% & 7.5% in Q5 for DPV; and 9.0% & 9.3% in Q1 and 7.8% & 8.0% in Q5 for T1DX). For DPV, the association between SES and HbA1c did not change between the two time periods, whereas for T1DX, disparities in HbA1c by SES increased significantly (p<0.001). After adjusting for technology use, results for DPV did not change whereas the increase in T1DX was no longer significant.</p> <p> </p> <p><b>Conclusions: </b>Although causal conclusions cannot be drawn, diabetes technology use is lowest and HbA1c is highest in those of the lowest SES quintile in the T1DX and this difference for HbA1c broadened in the last decade. Associations of SES with technology use and HbA1c were weaker in the DPV registry. </p>

ABSTRACT Whistleblowing reports, if properly investigated, facilitate the early detection of fraud. Although critical, investigation-related decisions represent a relatively underexplored component of the whistleblowing process. Investigators are responsible for initially deciding whether to follow-up on reports alleging fraud. We report the results of an experimental study examining the follow-up intentions of highly experienced healthcare investigators. Participants, in the role of an insurance investigator, are asked to review a whistleblowing report alleging billing fraud occurring at a medical provider. Thus, participants are serving as external investigators. In a between-participant design, we manipulate the report type and whether the caller previously confronted the wrongdoer. We find that compared to an anonymous report, a non-anonymous report is perceived as more credible and follow-up intentions stronger. We also find that perceived credibility fully mediates the relationship between report type and follow-up intentions. Previous confrontation is not significantly associated with either perceived credibility or follow-up intentions. Data Availability: Data are available upon request.

This study investigates the relationship between the characteristics of different types of childhood violence and adult victimization using two waves of data from a community telephone survey (T1) and a follow-up survey, including 505 cases and 506 controls, aged 17-35 years (T2). The logistic regression analyses showed that exposure to childhood abuse, regardless of type, was associated with adult victimization. Exposure to multiple types of abuse, victimization both in childhood and in young adulthood, and recency of abuse increased these odds. Our findings emphasize the importance of assessing multiple forms of violence when studying revictimization. Practitioners working with children and young adults should be attentive to the number of victimization types experienced and recent victimization to prevent further abuse.

The authors examined the acceptability ratings of positive reinforcement procedures recommended to parents seen in a pediatric behavior management outpatient clinic. Parental ratings of acceptability were obtained in the clinic and 1, 3, and 6 months following their initial clinic visit. Acceptability variables were examined by group (parents who rated the acceptability of treatments as high vs. low) and by severity (parents who rated their children's behavior problem as severe vs. mild). The relationship between these variables and reported compliance was also examined. Results show that the acceptability variables were useful in differentiating between parents who rated treatments to be more acceptable and parents who rated treatments to be less acceptable. Differences were also observed as a function of behavior problem severity. Significant correlations occurred between acceptability variables and compliance at each of the follow-up points. Results are discussed in relation to the clinical significance of these findings and the impetus they might serve for future research.

The densification of water-saturated firn, which had formed just above the firn-ice transition in the wet-snow zone of temperate glaciers, was investigated by compression tests under pressures ranging from 0.036 to 0.173 MPa, with special reference to the relationship between densification rate, time and pressure. At each test, the logarithm of the densification rate was proportional to the logarithm of the time, and its proportionality constant increased exponentially with increasing pressure. The time necessary for ice formation in the firn aquifer was calculated using the empirical formula obtained from the tests. Consequently, the necessary time decreased exponentially as the pressure increased, which shows that the transformation from firn in ice can be completed within the period when the firn aquifer exists, if the overburden pressure acting on the water-saturated firn is above 0.12–0.14 MPa. This critical value of pressure was in good agreement with the overburden pressure obtained from depth–density curves of temperate glaciers. It was concluded that the depth of firn–ice transition was self-balanced by the overburden pressure to result in the concentration between 20 and 30 m.
