PurposeThe main supporting frame of steel structure buildings is steel, and the beam-column joints of the steel structure directly affect the stability and strength of the supporting frame.Design/methodology/approachThis paper briefly introduced the beam-column joints which are used for ensuring the stability of buildings in the steel structure building, selected the fabricated beam-column joints which were different from the traditional welding methods, tested the fabricated beam-column joints with the reaction frame and jack and detected the influence of the thickness and length of the splice plate on the mechanical properties of joints.FindingsThe results showed that the joint stress and the displacement in the vertical direction increased under greater load no matter which kind of fabricated joint was used; under the same load, the thickness and length of the splice significantly affected the mechanical properties of joints, and the larger the thickness and length, the smaller the joint stress and displacement in the vertical direction.Originality/valueTo sum up, increasing the thickness or length of the splice plate of the fabricated joint can effectively improve the mechanical properties of joints.

In the decoration integration of steel structure, overhead floor achieves a separation of decoration and structure. Overhead floor system is composed of steel bracket, beam and floor. Reasonable overhead floor structure to ensure the safety of the whole structure has important significance. In this paper, the new form of beams named the cold bending cap steel is proposed and the size design of the new beam is made. While maintaining the original beams on the basis of mechanical properties, the new form of beams increase effective use height above the floor. In addition, the construction technology, construction requirements, the error control of overhead floor system, etc. are summarized and some author's suggestions in terms of modular are made.

Abstract: At present, energy savings and environmental protection are increasingly advocated in the process of social development, and developing green industries has been a problem about which the whole society is concerned. In the construction industry, green assembled steel structure building has the advantages of environmental protection and energy savings; therefore, it has been widely used in the real world with bigger development space. In the green assembled steel structure building system, the green assemble steel structure building takes building components or building functional units as a basic element and makes itself be characterized by production factorization and maintenance integration through combination of the elements. Based on that, the paper conducts a brief analysis on green assembled steel structure building system in hope of being able to offer a reference.

Throughout the last two decades, seismic design standards evolved to ever more comprehensive and detailed prescriptions, stressing out the need for design methods that deal with earthquake effects not as actions, but as a design philosophy. The Eurocode 8 adoption as national law throughout the European Union countries and informally in many parts of Africa, Asia and Latin America is the pretext for the current study. It aims to provide some guidance to the seismic design of steel structures as well as to the Eurocode 8 implementation by the designers. Some lines on the preliminary design of structural systems were written based on several real cases of structures designed taking into account the seismic action. Such a content is, usually, relevant in any design guide, given its value in enhancing the design technical and economical content. However, it is now of utter significance at the current context as an essential tool to facilitate the safety checking of several code requirements. Some of the Eurocode 8 prescriptions are then decoded, explained and justified based on the supportive bibliography. The information is subsequently ordered as a design guide, where some procedures are proposed to cope with the code interrelated prescriptions and one structural solution is proposed in order to overcome a design challenge while complying with the code. One last but not less relevant addressed issue is the fact that some Eurocode 8 prescriptions may be reviewed, in the eyes of a designer, given its practical outcome. Such issues are identified, explained and some slight code adjustments are suggested.
