A facile low-temperature hydrothermal method for in situ preparation of anatase titania (TiO2) homogeneously dispersed in cellulose aerogels substrates was described. The formed anatase TiO2aggregations composed of a mass of evenly dispersed TiO2nanoparticles with sizes of 2−5 nm were embedded in the interconnected three-dimensional (3D) architecture of the cellulose aerogels matrixes without large-scale reunion phenomenon; meanwhile, the obtained anatase titania/cellulose (ATC) aerogels also had a high loading amount of TiO2(ca. 35.7%). Furthermore, compared with commercially available Degussa P25, ATC aerogels displayed comparable photocatalytic activities for Rhodamine B and methyl orange degradations under UV radiation, which might be useful in the fields of catalysts, wastewater treatment, and organic pollutant degradation. Meanwhile, the photocatalytic reaction behaviors of ATC aerogels under UV irradiation were also illuminated.

The ZnFe2O4 and TiO2 nanocomposite films was prepared by Sol-Gel method on conductive glass, and the influence factors of it’s photoelectrocatalytic performence such as the film layer, pole and voltage was investigated. The results indicated that: the photocatalytic effects of composite films with ZnFe2O4+ TiO2+ ZnFe2O4 was the best. The decomposing ratio of methyl orange with the photoelectrocatalysis of composite films at voltage 0.2-6V all increased unstably. At the same time, the distance from films to pole plank also had the effects on the photocatalytic activities of the films.

Highly crystalline CaTaO2N nanoparticles possessing large specific surface areas were investigated as photocatalysts for the decomposition of methyl orange. Two different Ca2Ta2O7 precursors were synthesized by classical solid state synthesis and a hydrothermal soft-chemistry approach, respectively. In both cases, nitridation was carried out by thermal ammonolysis. The obtained CaTaO2N samples were compared with respect to their optical, thermal and morphological properties as well as their photocatalytic activities. In particular, the influence of ammonolysis temperature on the photocatalytic properties was studied. Using hydrothermally synthesized Ca2Ta2O7, phase pure CaTaO2N was obtained already at a relatively low ammonolysis temperature of 860 °C. Morphological investigations show that the CaTaO2N samples from the hydrothermally synthesized precursor consist of single-crystalline particles of 45 to 70 nm diameter with high specific surface areas between 12 and 19 m2 g-1, depending on ammonolysis temperature. A considerable photocatalytic activity for methyl orange degredation was found for the nanoscaled CaTaO2N particles prepared at lower ammonolysis temperatures. Using CoOx as co-catalyst, a further strong enhancement of the methyl orange decomposition by a factor 5-10 was achieved.

Large amounts of SnO2 nanospheres are successfully synthesized through a simple and effective hydrothermal method. The as-synthesized products consist of numerous small SnO2 nanocrystals with an average diameter of 40 nm. The as-prepared SnO2 nanospheres are further used as the photocatalysts for photodegrading several organic dyes (methylene blue, methyl orange, Congo red, and rhodamine B) under UV light irradiation. The photocatalytic results show that the as-synthesized SnO2 nanospheres possess high photocatalytic activities. Compared with the degradation rates of other dyes, that of methylene blue reaches 98.5% by 30 min irradiation. It reveals that the as-prepared product might be potential candidate in wastewater purification.
