Experimental and theoretical study Porphyrin-grafted ZnO nanowire arrays were investigated for organic/inorganic hybrid solar cell applications. Two types of porphyrin – Tetra (4-carboxyphenyle) TCPP and meso-Tetraphenylporphine (Zinc-TPP)were used to modify the nanowire surfaces. The vertically aligned nanowires with porphyrin modifications were embedded in graphene-enriched poly (3-hexylthiophene) [G-P3HT] for p-n junction nanowire solar cells. Surface grafting of ZnO nanowires was found to improve the solar cell efficiency. There are different effect for the two types of porphyrin as results of Zn existing. Annealing effects on the solar cell performance were investigated by heating the devices up to 225 °C in air. It was found that the cell performance was significantly degraded after annealing. The degradation was attributed to the polymer structural change at high temperature as evidenced by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements.

In this study, we define a synthetic parameter, optothermal expansivity, as a quantitative guide to evaluating and optimizing PV–T functional materials in both thermal and optical performance. This parameter, ψ AB (or Amlouk–Boubaker expansivity), is calculated using both the thermal diffusivity and the optical effective absorptivity of the material. The values of this parameter, which seems to be a characteristic one, correspond to the total volume that contains a fixed amount of heat per unit time (m3s-1) and can be considered, for future use, as a 3D velocity of the transmitted heat inside the material.

An iodine/iodide-free and polymer heterojunction-sensitized hybrid solar cell is fabricated by using 6,6-phenyl- C61 -butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) as electronic acceptor, poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) as donor and TiO2 film as substrate. The PCBM–P3HT heterojunction can harvest ultraviolet-visible light, transport charge carriers, replacing the dyes and electrolytes in dye-sensitized solar cell. The cell with a PCBM/P3HT ratio of 1:2 shows a short circuit current of 5.47 mA⋅cm-2, an open circuit voltage of 0.849 V, a fill factor of 0.640 and a light-to-electric energy conversion efficiency of 2.97% under a simulated solar light irradiation of 100 mW⋅cm-2.
