We present details of a model for calculating the mass spectrum of light-quark mesons and decay constants of the pseudoscalar meson octet from a phenomenological model based on Dyson–Schwinger and Bethe–Salpeter equations. In this model the Bethe-Salpeter kernel is approximated by a separable ansatz obtained from input quark propagators.

The decay constants of pseudoscalar and vector heavy–light mesons are calculated in the framework of the relativistic quark model with the completely relativistic treatment of the light quark. It is argued that relativistic effects play a significant role. Good agreement of the model predictions with recent lattice and QCD sum rule calculations as well as available experimental data are found.

A study of the light-meson couplings to the single photon in the framework of the covariant oscillator quark model (COQM) is reported. The transition rates of {ρ(770), b1(1235), a1(1260), a2(1320), π2(1670), ρ3(1690), ρ(1700)}± into π±γ, being expected to be measured by the COMPASS collaboration in their Primakoff-reaction experiments, are calculated. It could be useful not only for understanding the internal structures of observed light-quark mesons and their quark-model classification but also for the ongoing experimental studies by COMPASS.

We perform the first studies of various inter-quark potentials in SU(3)c lattice QCD. From the accurate lattice calculation for more than 300 different patterns of three-quark (3Q) systems, we find that the static 3Q potential V3Q is well described by Y-Ansatz, i.e., the Coulomb plus Y-type linear potential. Quark confinement mechanism in baryons is also investigated in maximally-Abelian projected QCD. We next study the multi-quark potentials VnQ (n = 4,5) in SU(3)c lattice QCD, and find that they are well described by the one-gluon-exchange Coulomb plus multi-Y type linear potential, which supports the flux-tube picture even for the multi-quarks. Finally, we study the heavy-heavy-light quark (QQq) potential both in lattice QCD and in a lattice-QCD-based quark model.
